It has gotten worse over time because humans have got better at fighting it. The corruption doesn't actually 'want' to destroy Wynn, it merely exists to foster maximum conflict, and constant war - so when its enemy grows stronger or weaker, it will mirror that, so that it is always evenly matched.

(Warning: I might have this mistaken so correct me if I'm wrong)
We see that in the Realm of Light that when the parasite started to corrupt Gavel (where the realm of light is mirrored on the 2nd plane or whatever) that it transfered over to Orphion and the light which does support this theory when you frame it like this:
The Realm of War is mirrored of the Wynn Province, so when the army of Wynn is strong that is then mirrored unto the RoW. And similarly to how the parasite worked; when Wynn is weakened so is the Corruption.

Decay. The Parasite isn't affiliated with Corruption.
    ________________________________
The idea you have is interesting, but it runs off of a flawed idea of what the "mirroring" is. The Realms of Influence grow with the spread of their influence and wither when that influence vanished. The Parasite, which was actively leeching the light from Gavel, was therefore affecting Orphion and the Realm of Light.
The amount of soldiers in Wynn wouldn't impact The Realm of War, but the spread or decline of its influence (corruption) would.
    ________________________________
As described in 2.1, Devils and Corrupteds desire the death of all life, which runs counter to this idea. If the Realm of War didn't want to destroy Wynn (and the whole world), then why would its spawn desire such?

You can't expect me to know anything about 2.1 when I don't have access to the beta. This is the first time I have heard of corrupted devils anyway.

Also, I think the corrupteds can desire the destruction of all life while the RoW just wants mindless war anyway. RoW can scale back or forward the amount of energy output with how well the humans are doing, so the corrupteds can still be omnicidal while their master isn't.

Is there any chance that the corruption wants the death of light and dark as well by that logic?

I meant corrupt as in the actual meaning not the Corruption ingame. Poor choice of words on my part.

And the parasite leeching the light itself makes more sense. I thought it was more that the harm done on the land with the decay mirrored into the harm on the light. I still don't understand what the "influence" means but it could still somewhat work with my previous idea. (correct me if i'm wrong) The influence of the Realm of War could be the war itself happening, which means that when the Wynn armies are strong, it means that the war is 'strong' in a sense making the corruption stronger. i don't really know how to word this

    Light.

These are areas affected by the influences of Light and Dark respectively, but the locations are not their influence.
    ________________________________
Darkness is the influence of the Realm of the Darkness, Decay isn't an influence, it's more a place that requires an influence to thrive (a light forest) being drained of that influence, leaving it rotted and the things there perverted.
    ________________________________
The way you can think of influences a bit is like Terraria evil biomes. Let's say the Realm of Light's influence is Hallow; the Hallow Biome is merely a pre-existing area (forest, desert, snow) that is under the influence of The Realm of Light. An Influence is intangible, but it has very tangible effects when it interacts with things; warping them to fit that Realm & its Beast's perception of how things should be.
    ________________________________
    To lay out some basic stuff;

The Realm of Light's influence is Light. It is prevalent in all of Gavel, but is concentrated mostly around Southwestern Gavel, with the Light Forest and Aldorei Valley. Signs of its presence can be seen in places like Cinfras County, Canyon of the Lost, and even Molten Heights. The Beast of this Realm is Orphion.

The Realm of Darkness' (often called Dern) influence is Darkness. It is prevalent in several locations, but the most notable and where its effects are seen in the greatest concentration is The Silent Expanse. Darkness can be spotted in parts of Kander Woods around The Heart of Decay, where all the Light has been leeched from the area and has begun to slowly be replaced with Dark. The Beast of this Realm's name is unknown, but they have made appearances in cutscenes, mostly as a disembodied voice.

The Realm of War's influence is Corruption. It is prevalent mostly in Wynn, but shows up scarcely in other locations. Due to the nature of War, being the product of Light and Dark fighting, Corruption will emerge where violent clashes between Light and Dark collide, or where they end up converging. Corruption can also spread of its own volition. It is unknown if there is a Realm Beast of War.

Decay is caused by The Parasite, an agent of Darkness sent to Gavel during The Equinox (0 AP). Its sole purpose is to drain the Light and magic from the Light Forest (all of Kander, Dark Forest, and Olux used to be part of the Light Forest) and from Orphion himself in order to tilt the balance further into the Realm Beast of Darkness' favor. It isn't an influence, but is moreso the absence of Light's influence where Light was crucial to an ecosystem

Neither Light, Dark, nor War are "evil". They all have different ideas of how the world should be, and all of those ideas are usually made with no consideration for the creatures already living in the Physical Plane (the world where Gavel, Wynn, and Fruma are).

    Thanks for the clarification.
There are a few things I am still confused about though...

Why isn't there Corruption in Gavel when Darkness is present in an area where there is Light? In the quest A Headless History, we see that Corruption was formed when the parasite attacked Lari and Dullahan, yet those areas do not seem to still have any Corruption in the present day.
Additionally, the obelisk of Light within Lutho (an area where there is Darkness) is seen to have some Corruption surrounding it on the inside.

Secondly, would Lari be the Light's equivalent to the Darkness' Parasite, in which she is an "agent of Light"? I know she has been busy fending off the Decay, but if she were to be sent to the Silent Expanse would she be able to slowly reverse the effects of Darkness? Or would she just create more Corruption?

Lastly, why doesn't the Realm of Light have it's own special name when the Realm of Darkness is called Dern?

For the first one, I'd think that that's because the Parasite/Decay already drained the light from that area before the darkness came in. By the time the darkness started popping up in those areas, there wouldn't be any light left to combat it and thus form corruption. The Decay drains the light, and then the darkness is able to invade that area without conflict or the creation of corruption.

also deus can you make this theory canon or at least remove the lore that directly disproves it pleaseeee because it's arguably cooler than just "corruption destroys shit" imo. also the realm of war only wanting war makes so much sense

I believe this continuity is lost in the builds, presumably it would still be there. Perhaps there is a way to cleanse corruption that isn't yet mentioned in game though, and given that that splotch is so far away from War's Realm Portal, it could've potentially been weak enough to smudge out. Just speculation though.

Yup, because Light and Dark are directly touching there.

The Obelisk in Lutho is Light's version of The Parasite (though it is far, far less effective given that Light is losing the war currently)
Bak'al is the Dark's version of Lari. (as to why a corruption guy is serving The Realm of Darkness, that lore has not yet been told in game.)

because the realm of darkness is cooler like that :sunglasses:

    yup

Of the three realms, you know the least of The Realm of War. Corruption does destroy stuff, but you don't know why, or if there's even a Realm Beast for the Realm of War.
