    Both the trailer's description and the Discord post call the update the "most colossal update yet", which leads me to believe it has something to do with the Colossus

    yup, you will need a forgery chain piece for every item you want to repair. The design philosophy is that we wanted an unobtrusive way to make more people play the Forgery. We couldn't think of one, so instead we went with a very obtrusive way. Happy Forgery grinding!
