Why is 1.7 better than 1.8 for PvP?

    I have heard some chatter about version 1.7 being favored over 1.8 for PvP, but I am curious to know about this and Can anyone share their experiences on why 1.7 is better for player versus player combat? Whether it is about game mechanics, balance changes, or community preferences. Can anyone share this.

    Both use the "old" style of combat but from what I can gather in competitive pvp groups it has to do with:
    • Hitboxes (may have?) shifted between the two patches
    • FPS is universally noticeably better in 1.7
    • 1.8 added a combat penalty that punishes you for missing entities while spam clicking by making you unable to hit things briefly

    didn't this happen in 1.9
    I'm pretty sure 1.8 and 1.7 are the same for pvp performance aside, other than the fact that you can break blocks while using items in 1.7

    You're thinking of the update that killed clickspam entirely, which was 1.9. 1.8 had clickspam but also had the miss penalty.

    When you miss an entity while over a certain amount of clicks per second, you're locked out of hitting entities for... either 0.5 or 0.7 seconds, don't remember which
