Professions Don't Suck (Here's Why)

    Ahhh, professions. An aspect of Wynncraft that very few of us willingly touch with a 10-foot pole, unless you're looking to max out ALL your skills or you're one of the masochistic folk who do Crafted Items Only runs. But as much as people give professions flak, I personally don't believe they're all bad. Here are my points:

    • Exploration. Profession leveling doesn't happen in just one place. In fact, a lot of different resources scattered across the map actively encourage players to explore to locate these new places, and even to boost your own combat level to get to these places.
    • Crafting Is Kinda OP. Okay, it's no Stratiformes. But the ability to craft and customize gear can go absolutely CRAZY if you have the right ingredients. I've seen "crafted item damage tests" that have cleared out corrupted dungeons in under, like, three minutes. The system may take some learning, but play it right and even mythics can pale in comparison to them.
    • Housing. Housing may be another less-looked-at aspect of Wynncraft, but the fact that profession materials can be used instead of emeralds to purchase blocks is very wallet-friendly in the long run.
    • Money-Making. Crafted items, even cruddy ones, sell for a surprising amount of money. Crafting a whole bunch of cruddy one-off items and selling them is a great money-making strategy, and a valid way to increase your levels if you're not ready to take on combat yet.

    And that's my argument for the value of professions and crafting! I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments, whether they agree with me or tell me that I should touch grass.

    As a guy who is almost done with his quest to get all gathering profs up to 110, my rebuttal to this:
    Almost everyone sticks to one general spot to farm profs. The most exploration you're doing only happens when you can get a new node type and you're looking for the best spot to grind for it. The only profession that doesn't really follow this is Woodcutting, though there are still grind spots for those which people just loop around without deeply exploring a region.

    Your other three points tackle outcomes of it. Yes, it does serve as a neat money-making method, but the main reason (or at least one of the primary ones) why people do stuff like quests or dungeons in the first place is because it's just simply fun to do. TNA, for example, isn't just a great way to make money, it is arguably one of the best and funnest endgame pieces of content in the game. A main reason why people would try to do almost every single quest in the game isn't just because they want to complete their content book, but having a whole bunch of new fun experiences is what makes them feel worthwhile instead of just being a mindless activity. Profs are not fun gameplay-wise. The most enjoyment that comes out of it for me is not gathering stuff, but is instead what you can get. Speaking of gathering, there is barely any strategy for harvesting nodes. It more or less consists of the highest GXP build, highest level gathering tool, and praying someone charitable enough drops prof bombs in your world. With combat, it's much more different as there are several different ways and strategies to tackle the same thing with it feeling like a completely new experience by doing so. Back to the topic of outcomes, you don't even have to do the main form of content to get the same benefits of the outcomes if you can just buy them on the trade market.

    So why did I get my gatherings profs up to 110? I wanted to 100% my content book and it kinda morphed from there to just have access to every node so the grind when more nodes are added won't be as bad, or if profs are reworked I'll have access to more content from the start. Not to mention it also gives me something to do when I feel like there's not much left for me to do in Wynncraft until 2.1 comes out.

    anyways, to conclude, we should both touch grass

    For whatever reason I enjoy grinding in games and so I enjoy grinding lvs for professions and making things, looking up recipes. For me it isn't awful, and it's always weird to me to see people discourage anyone to even try it out - it's a mechanic of the game and some people just like that kinda thing. Wouldn't recommend it for someone's first playthrough of course, but I think it has its merits

    I tend to just not recommend people to do professions on first playthrough, but then again there's quests that require profs (shadow of the beast mainly ig)
    but like its just time consuming and it generally doesn't give much of a benefit to the average player
