SPOILER Light Realm needs cool name too

I've always had this question about the naming scheme for the realms in Wynncraft.

The Realm of Darkness is also known as Dern. This makes sense because Dern in middle English can be translated to mean darkness. But why does Dern have this alternate naming scheme and yet the Realm of Light does not. There is no alternate middle English type of name for the Realm of Light.

Just some food for thought, maybe I am missing something and there is a reason for this but so far I have not found anything.

 

Since the Light Beast (Orphion) and the Dark Beast are embodied avatars of their respective Realms of influence, I've always considered that they're kind of one and the same. In the same way that "Dern" could refer either to the Realm of Darkness or to its personification & embodiment, I use "Orphion" to refer both to the Realm of Light and its #1 big boy. That's not explicitly canon but I think it's the closest we've got atm

 

I never thought about it like that, actually makes a lot of sense. Orphion vs Dern/ Light vs Dark. But I guess we won't know until the Dark Beast name gets revealed.

On that topic the Corkus quest mixed feelings Rensa says this.

• Rensa: Do you, for example - Know the name of your ultimate enemy? The reason for the war on your land?

So the reveal of the Dark beasts name will probably be some big reveal.

 

If the name of the Realms are the same as the Realm Beasts then it would make sense why the names of the Light Beast and Dark Realm are revealed while the names of the Light Realm and Dark Beast are still unknown

Since revealing any further information will basically allow for people to connect the dots

 

Come to think of it, I don’t know where Orphion's name comes from. If it also comes from an old English language/dialect and it means something along the lines of "light," I'd say that makes your theory even more likely

 

I don't care about the dern beasts real name, what the real thing to care about is to learn the true name of the ultimate, almighty Seaskipper!

 

Assuming he isn't a character we haven't met in person yet I still am of the strong belief that the Seaskipper Captain is Sohso

Or a more likely theory that Seaskipper Captain = THE DERN BEAST

 

Going back to seriousness, the Seaskipper Captain is the most likely candidate

There isn't anything that outright confirms but there isn't anything that disproves this theory either
And the stuff the Seaskipper Captain talks about suspiciously match a bunch of stuff regarding Sohso

 

I think the Seaskipper is a very like knowledgable character and being a scientist would make sense. And the amount of secret lore he has is strange.

 

DB is not the cause of Corruption.

 

Stuff about his brothers inheriting everything the family owed, and several accounts of him attempting to go to Fruma, possibly to enter or communicate with the province only to be denied access

This is basically a 95% chance of happening by now but I really do hope that Sohso is at least a part of the eventual Fruma quests that are yet to come out
And if the Seaskipper Captain is Sohso then I would love to have him back as a major role in the endgame quests, makes for a really interesting dynamic

 

The wiki says that "Orphion" comes from the Zelda character Ordona

 

This has only filled me with more questions now. I must process this information.

 

From the wiki it says the origin is "The collision between the Light and the Darkness in the Plane of Influence". (I don't know exactly if this information is now correct or has changed). But it's a seperate force of the Dark and Light, at most it can be seen as a mixture of both but it's not made or created intentionally by either side.

 

There are three Realms of Influence, Light, Dark, and War. Each of them has their own influence they stain the world with, with Light being the acid rainbow fantasy of the affected areas across Gavel, Dark being the dernic stuff in The Silent Expanse, and War being Corruption.
Corruption is formed from Light and Dark fighting, being almost like the fallout to their endless conflict. Unlike Light or Dark which act with intent and method and seek to reshape the world to their ideal eldritch utopia, War is chaos and hatred and destruction without equal. Corruption doesn't change life like Light or Dark, it kills it, and leaves the bodies of those it touches possessed with madness and hatred to being about more death.
You can differentiate Corruption from Darkness by their aesthetics. Corruption is red, firey, scorched, and makes heavy use of Minecraft's Netherrack block. Darkness is colorful and bizarre, seen well in the earth of the Eyeball Forest, which is a gross skin-tone beige that fades to pinks and reds and purples and grays.

Decay, because I know you or someone else will bring it up, is not corruption. Decay isn't an influence, but instead the product of one. Decay is the systematic erasure of Light from Gavel by the Parasite and it's dernmite brood. It is Dark's effort to slowly dwindle Orphion and The Realm of Light to seize greater and greater control.
