Old Player Returning, what to do?

Hey yall, old 2016 player here. Quit around 2020 before pandemic.

I've heard the story has been completely revamped, classes were revamped, animations revamped, everything. So I'm interested again.

I have a level 86 Mage (old) and a Level 33 Archer (old) and a Level 39 Shaman (old!)
So what should I play? I want to make a new character and basically start over. I'm going to be playing solo, so preferably something that lets me take care of myself & have fun.

 

idk, any archetype of any class can be fun if you enjoy that kind of thing, but maybe lightbender

I’ll give you a brief rundown of the 2.0 update, also known as the Spellbound update.
The four base spells on each class have been reimagined with new particle effects and sounds (though they mostly function similarly to pre-2.0). Each class now has an ability tree containing tons of unique abilities. Through this ability tree, you can choose one of three archetypes for each class. They specialize in different things, such as the Lightbender (Mage) focusing on healing, while the Arcanist (also Mage) can cast lots of spells for big damage.

For starting a new class, just pick whatever seems fun to you! There isn’t really a “best class”, anything works. Most content can be completed solo, so you won’t need to worry too much about needing a group until you can do raids, which are like harder dungeons that do require multiple people.

Watch some videos about the classes and just play your favorite one. If you don't like the play style of one switch around you tree or build.
