As someone who spent a lot of time on forums for other servers, it is a little unfortunate to see how the concept of forums is dwindling as time passes. Particularly in favour for Discord. Forums brought a sense of community, especially for minecraft servers that I don't think can be replicated in Discord.

I'd definitely be using the forums more frequently if they returned to the golden era lol.

 

Really hoping for a forums revival once Fruma drops.

 

It is honestly depressing to return every now and then just to see how desolate the whole place has become.

Discord killed the Forum Star.

The deletion of the shoutbox because discord was "better" was the first sign of the end times. The shoutbox was a true testament to the original forum culture - a proper, old-fashioned chatroom where you could step in and out at any time. Discord is too modernized, too segmented, and definitely too toxic to be considered anything close to the shoutbox, or the forums for that matter.

At the very least, we've got the memories, but those times are gone now.

 

If it makes you feel any better, the last Discord comment was like 17 minutes before I opened it. So clearly there is A community that's very active even if its not the one you knew.

But the dark font, the less "analog" feel, the endless notifications and the lack of 2000s memes or fursona's as avatars is the main downsides.

Maybe I'll end up working for discord and help them figure out a way for individual servers to look very different from each other, and be more independent from the other servers so you can open it up without getting constant notifications. Like WordPress level customization.

I think it's the community, mostly, that people cared about - not how it looked, but how it felt; not because of the website, because of the people. Discord just can't be what the forums was.

Peak wynncraft days tbhhh, even if you didn't play the game you were still active on forums from how fun the community was
