If you’re going to take the perspective of what Selvut intended, then the most likely answer is that he had no intention of Qira belonging to any established race. His avoidance of providing any hints on the matter implies this.

As for Qira crossing the ocean from Wynn, I still feel like (if we insist on placing her within an existing race) it is more reasonable to assume that she belongs to a less-well-known Gavellian race than to leverage the meta-reason of “writers tend to use established things” to justify her crossing the entire known world.

What even drew her towards Gavel in the first place? It can’t have been the Elves or the Realm of Light, since she has previously stated in that other thread that she has only heard of the RoL and had minimal interaction with elves. Was it merely wanting a stable place to build her army? There’s a malfunctioning colossus just up the road, threatening to drop the entire region straight into the void - a place we know to be adjacent to the Realm of Darkness. Qira is both aware of and intends to research the Colossus, so she should have some inkling of the threat it poses. Was it to escape the corruption? The decay would have already been present at that point, with the Parasite appearing at the same time as the portal in Wynn.

So why, then, did she cross an impassable ocean to get to where she is now? Wouldn’t it make sense for her to have always been in Gavel?

I'm not necessarily trashing away the Qira-Olm idea but I still don't understand how the hell anyone sees both Qira and the Olms as remotely similar

Their skin tones are literally nearly on the opposite ends of the spectrum, assuming you weren't implying some magic that darkened her skin or something why are you using her skin color as part of the theory that she might be an Olm

Unless there's some other Olm skin that isn't artificially affected by outer forces like the Corrupted Olm and Biblioclasts I don't think we can use that as a valid point

Hell, the fact that skin tones can artificially be altered combined with the fact that Qira is been messing with magic for who knows how long kinda makes guessing anything via skin color impossible

 

I didn’t want to go there because then she could technically be any race. I mean we do know that magic can change your appearance, but we are never given anything specific to that regard. Plus in the cases that are established, like the Gerts and the corrupted, that degree of magic also drives the person mad or severely alters their state of mind. Qira, however, seems to be with it and never acts crazy like that.

I guess the only option is that her race is some lost race that hasn’t been officially introduced yet. Unless magic made her big nose fell off, then the closest races are humans and elves, which we already discredited as well. Elves would be closer than humans since they’re native to Gavel and more magical, but unless Selvut comes out and says that there’s magic that can allow elves to do blackface, then there’s nothing else.

 

Given Wynncraft's current sheer extensive rules of what the hell magic can do I feel like something as comparatively simple as changing your outer appearance shouldn't even be debated in the first place
Considering the fact that we have legit seen this very phenomenon happen everywhere else in the game, involuntarily or otherwise

Also what debunks her as being a human or elf? While we have no evidence of her being either we have nothing that goes against this either.

Besides appearances and having purple blood, for humans it’s that she remembers events over 250 years ago, when humans only came into contact with Gavel only 100 years ago. Which means before 100 years ago, there were no humans in Gavel.

Elves are a bit trickier if we’re not going off of appearance. The biggest stick in the mud is that elves just don’t act anything like Qira. They’re much more chill, in tune with nature, and thus they live communally in forests and in Aldorei Valley. We don’t see any Elf settlements beyond those locations. Nor do they dabble in the kind of magic Qira practices. Also villagers are pretty racist towards elves, so it would be weird for all of her servants to be villagers and no one would bring that awkward fact up.

So it would be weird that a lone elf left her home and dabbled in the darker arts to become a powerful sorcereress in the Canyon of the Lost to the point that it completely changed her appearance. Not impossible, but just a lot of missing steps inbetween.

Sure, she had a direct mandate from Orphiron to go out and do things against the Decay. Nonetheless, she is an immensely powerful, lone elf with a notable difference in appearance from other elves. She has multiple settlements far off from other elven communities.

If we prefer to minimize the amount of appearance-changing magic that Qira would need to use to reach her current form, then we can look to various fantasy sources. In D&D, for example, there is a dark variant of elves known as Drow. While there is not currently any drow in Wynncraft, there was a level 78 mob called the Lost Drow in the Cinfras Country that has been removed. It is not impossible that the CT had other plans of where the drow might instead exist in the future, thus removing the stray one. Either way, a drow would have approximately the same magical prowess as a standard elf with a much darker skin complexion.

All of that said, I find it likely that Qira has ways of changing her appearance that aren’t quite so mentally harmful. After all, she herself has built and designed dozens of life forms (presumably from scratch) and has the unique capacity to tweak both their physical forms and their mental abilities.

In Selvut’s thread of Hive stories, Qira frequently makes mention of adjusting the Oceanic Judge’s mind. She also laments how she forgot to equip the Solar Vanguard with basic knowledge of things such as food. (Notably, she also makes mention of avoiding cosmic magic, stating that she is fully aware of its mind-warping properties.)

How, then, should we expect a being capable of creating, customizing, and modifying other life forms to not be capable of self-modification? Yes, it opens the Pandora’s Box of “well shit, she could be ANY race then!” … yeah, it does. I think that was always the point, more or less. This question was quite impossible from the start, as I see it.

I am still baffled at more than 1 person actually debating on Qira being an Olm because she, quote, "LOOKS LIKE ONE"

The "Qira is Olm" theory can't technically be disproven because that's the entire point, we have no proof in the first place
These people are theorizing on something from the lack of proof that goes against it rather than the existence of proof that supports it and my mind is melting from the logic

There is another species that Qira could be.

It is... an Ethereal.

Ethereals are extremely strong creatures native to Dern, and they are one with the elements.
Ethereals are born with powers in a certain element(s). For example, Rainbow Ethereals are extremely rare and there is only one (or 2) known Rainbow Ethereals existing.

As you can see, Qira meets all three of the specifications of being an Ethereal.

(The only other known rainbow ethereal in existence is Meister2022 btw)
