SPOILER Dern Beast (Might) be a Girl

So i’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and despite it being literally shown in Orphion’s dialogue, i’ve seen no one talk about this.

These words are taken from the wiki:

Orphion: (In High Gavellian) She must be snuffed out. Her influence feeds this senseless war.

HER influence…
I think people have taken this as something related to Lari, but considering the ultimate secret from the silent expanse has the dern beast talking about “My influence” and past theories about the dern beast being a girl, i think this confirms it

 

While I too headcanon DB to use female pronouns, I can't believe I have to keep telling this to people

Orphion is not talking about Dern Beast. His dialogue outright makes it impossible for him to be referring to Dern Beast. Why do people keep thinking it is Dern Beast

 

Well let’s think. Who else would Orphion be referring to? We could say it’s Lari, but that doesn’t make any sense. 1. We literally see her fending off dark creatures and fighting Bak’al, so why would all of a sudden would she be connected to fueling the war of the realms. And 2. Why would it be Lari’s influence that “feeds this senseless war”. If not the dern beast, then who is Orphion referring too?

 

i think most people assume this refers to the fruma queen, not lari

 

And another thing, if we assume orphion is talking about Lari, then why would we want to “Snuff her out”. She literally helps you throughout the RoL questline. Even if she was kind of a jerk at some points in the questline, I don’t think orphion would specifically say “She must be snuffed out”. And the fact that the text is in high gavellian, literally hiding this text from you if you can’t translate it, it just doesn’t make any sense if we assume that orphion is referring to Lari, or anyone else for that matter.

The issue here isn't on possibilities of who Orphion is referring to based on the lore, it's the fact that the dialogue structure doesn't make a lick of sense if you substitute "she" with Dern Beast

• Orphion: (In High Gavellian) She must be snuffed out. Her influence feeds this senseless war.

"Cannot be blamed solely on the dark itself" implies that Orphion isn't technically talking about DB in this context, and that something else is contributing to the issue.
Sure, he could have changed his subject to be DB in the next line but this statement is immediately supported by the additional "there is another force who you must bring to peace"
He was literally just talking about the Darkness why would this "another force" be referring to the same thing

Also a little bit of a weaker point, if we were to assume that "snuffed out" refers to either death or some form of complete subduing, it can't possibly refer to DB either. Killing (which, fat chance) or weakening Dern Beast and their influence to the point where they are incapacitated would most likely cause another imbalance, this time from Light's side, and we already know damn well by now that Orphion wants anything but an imbalance.

Onto a more theory side of things, I immediately sought to find any characters we currently know of which might fit this description. Orphion doesn't specify if the "feeding" of the War of the Realms is done intentionally or not, so it could be any ally or antagonist.

There aren't a lot of significant female characters that are relevant to a greater story and/ or connected to the War of the Realms, so the only possibilities I could find are Lari, Qira, and the Fruma Queen, the first two having direct connections to the Realm War and the second simply just being a really important character. Whether Fruma will have any connections to the Realms of Influence we'll have to wait and see.

I probably missed some other character in which case someone here can let me know and I'll add it in

Dern: As the war of the realms...

"Our paths were never the same" can be (potentially) interepreted as Orphion saying he and Dern Beast should not be equals, and thus should not be in a state of "balance."

Dern Beast, in fact, seems to be the one who seeks "balance." He says the world is suffering from imbalance, and he will change the state of things. He implies that the current imbalanced "path" of the world is not the path he seeks. Orphion saying that Dern Beast's "insufferable desires bring no good to this world" also implies Orphion opposes Dern Beast's pursuit of "balance" and instead seeks an "imbalanced" state.

 

I took "purity" to just mean complete darkness carpeted across the world, tbh
Balance between two opposing forces doesn't sound like purity

 

My interpretation is that "war" is Dern Beast's purity
Because after all, the war of the realms... is eternal

 

I on the other hand took that statement to mean that DB accepts that as long as both them and Orphion exist, the war between the two of them will never end, despite DB's ultimate goal of "purifying" the Physical Plane by having only darkness exist

I don't think Corruption was something DB wants in the end goal anyway, it feels almost unintended

Interesting to see another interpretation of it though

okay actually dern beast says "Balance shall become a thing of the past" in ne du valeos du ellach so ig he does want imbalance
imbalance couldve referred to the decay not yknow, and the world in its "crumbling" weakened state will be easier for dern beast to take over

 

Btw why do you guys call them the dern beast? If Orphion is the light beast then it should be the dark beast, otherwise orphion would be the gavel beast

 

Gavel isn't the Realm of Light, the Realm of Light is the Realm of Light.
And it's Realm of Dern, not Realm of Dark.

Orphion is the Light Beast, of the Realm of Light
Dern Beast is the Dern Beast, of the Realm of Dern
