Ah yes, I have returned from my eternal slumber to play more Wynncraft. For those who don't know, I originally did this type of ranking in around Late 2020, but I realized that my rankings became outdated pretty quickly, and I wanted to actually review the quests once again after the recent update and me actually starting to want to play the game again

So I feel like I was originally a little too harsh on the early game quests, I think I said something about them not having enough lore, but early game isn't really about anything being set up, it wants to get new players invested in the game. Most of the early game quests are pretty standard but relatively inoffensive. I think last time I did a top 3 and bottom 3, but I realized this time around I couldn't really fit 3 of the worst quests into a single ranking, but at the same time there were only a select few quests that I actually liked, most of the quests around this stage are average.

Anyways without further ado, onto the rankings:

    5) Worst: Mushroom Man
This actually used to be my least favorite quest, and for good reason, grinding those mushrooms were annoying af. Now while I think it's not much better and still grindy, they at least toned down the grinding and the way you find Yahya is funny. Instead of just going to some random house some guy just walks up to you on the street and is like "Hey wanna try my soup" and then you drink it and he kidnaps you, and then you have to do his chores. Again, still not a very good quest, but it's an improvement.

    5) Best: Stable Story
I think the quest itself is just sort of average. You go into a barn, and some horse merchant wants you to get his barn key, so you go into this hay cave with Betsy, and then you have to fight two cows, and the boss fight itself is alright. This quest is generally just your average boss quest, but with no grinding and the reward you get is actually pretty good. The horse may be slow at first but I am glad that they nerfed this level from 34 to 13, which improved the quest imo.

    4) Worst: Poisoning the Pest
Now outside of Ragni you find this random farmer who basically got kicked out of his own farm by his resurrected corrupted stepfather, who you then have to go into the farm and kill with rat poison. It's a pretty simple start for new players, the mechanics are decent and the quest itself is short. What does put this quest on the worst list for me is just the fact that the cutscene is like 34 seconds long, like it could've been way shorter and it just makes the quest kind of pointless. Cutscenes should only really be done if there's lore or a major event happens or something, this just feels slightly off.

    4) Best: Creeper Infiltration
I think this is just a generally interesting and decent quest. There's not much to it, but there's some lore and some pretty fun mechanics built in. So you find a hidden village and some guy says that his village is low on grains, so you go climb to the top of the mountain to see what's going on, and some creeper just launches you away and puts you back in the village. Now Thomas doesn't know Creepers even exist, so he wants you to make a mask from a pigman hide and some creeper skin, and then you go into the creeper cave and find some gunpowder to prove they actually exists. Not the best quest regarding substance, but it does set up some lore because eventually you will need to go into the Creeper Cave for Temple of Legends.

    3) Worst: Elemental Exercise
Yeah welcome to false advertising: the quest. So you talk to this guy who is studying elements, and wants you to kill an Earth mob who is weak to fire. Once you do so you have to go into some cave to kill a bunch of similar mobs and get 10 scorched roots. Originally I thought this was going to just be your average fetch quest, but no the cave collapses and burns down and you have to escape, and Ragon's all like "yeah nevermind". Nothing was accomplished from this study, what was the point of even doing this quest other than to get some random bracelet which you can just wear in the early game?

    3) Best: King's Recruit
The one that started it all... and does not mislead you to accidentally do professions this time yay! Okay in general this quest is perfectly fine, you and two other guys enter the province of Wynn, go through a few caves, fight a bunch of mobs and get to Ragni. This is actually a pretty decent tutorial, it doesn't really set up anything but it teaches you how to cast spells, lootrun, interact with things, kill mobs, and do other things you will generally encounter in the later game. I think as a quest it's pretty average, but as a tutorial, it's a nice way to kick things off!

    2) Worst: Cook Assistant
This is just another forgettable fetch quest that it just feels like was thrown in there just for the hell of it. You talk to this one baker, he wants you to get ingredients, you scream internally because you have to level up professions, you get the milk, eggs, and wheat from Katoa Ranch, and then you're done. My main problem with this quest is that it's not very accessible to new players. You're not told where to go, he just asks the player for some ingredients but doesn't say how to find them. If you're a returning player, this is not a problem, you can just get the ingredients at Katoa Ranch and call it a day, but there's not really any reason to do this quest. If you're a new player, your best bet is to use the wiki instead of finding it on your own. For a quest this early, who was it even made for?

    2) Best: Tunnel Trouble
I remember my original ranking where I put Arachnid's Ascent over this, probably because I had a slight bias for dungeon quests, but now they made it worse by the fact you have to start in the Savannah and just adds filler to the overall quest, so that's no longer on my best list. Anyways I'm rambling, Tunnel Trouble turned out to be a lot better than I expected. It's got good mechanics, has good gameplay and decent characters, and is generally pretty funny. I think we all love the part where you have to help some random guy set a bunch of cows free from a stable by sneaking around a farmer, and then you set all the cows to go to Gavel. Or so I think you do because then Drale comes back and his cows just eat through the dirt I think? And the quest is over. Overall, pretty good quest, one of the better quests of the early game levels, also the reward allows fast travel between Detlas and Ragni, so that's nice.

    1) Worst: Potion Making
There's not much to say about this quest that hasn't already been said. It's boring, it's confusing, and the grinding is actually more annoying than Mushroom Man in that you have to get 8 mushrooms by killing things, in which unfortunately I was playing Assassin and I got nuked by most of the mobs in the center of the arena, which sucks. Anyways when you get the mushrooms and bring them back to the Assistant, he poisons Dr. Essren and then you have to kill him, and then the Assistant is all like "Never speak of this again" whenever you talk to him again. Also the Assistant's motivation is pretty bland, we know the potion Dr. Essren is making is dangerous, but we don't know what it will cause and the Assistant killing him just feels rather odd to me. Also the reward is barely better than the Thoracic, yeah Elemental Defenses are nice but you also get it like 6 levels later, and the only dungeon you're going to be probably doing is Infested Pit, so if you're not doing that or you have a better chestplate anyways, don't do this quest, it's not worth your time.

    1) Best: The Sewers of Ragni
Yes, I may have slightly overcome my obvious bias for dungeon quests, but this is the only quest this early that actually gets lore, and it's not confusing. It's just a prison for Ragni's worst criminals, and when they died they now trap anyone who dares to enter the sewers. Anyways the quest starts off by teleporting you to this cave to the side of the dungeon entrance, you used to have to walk there but now it just teleports you which is nice. You go through a cave with a few challenges, first you have to set off an explosive to let the water flow you into another area, then kill some grim reaper to get past the door, do some timed parkour, and once you reach the top, I think you encounter a sign of Witherhead who has been lurking throughout the cave. Last time I played I didn't get the cutscene of her saying "release me", idk whether that's a bug or the staff team intentionally removed it, I wouldn't have minded either way. Anyways then you have to run out of the flooding tunnel and blast your way out, but the explosion accidentally opened the entrance to the sewers, allowing you to do the dungeon. This is the quest that I feel is one of the first that hooks players into the game, King's Recruit teaches them the basics, but this allows them to do a dungeon and invest them into the story, so I think it's fair to call this the best quest of the first 20 levels (also because Deja Vu's level became higher).

Anyways that was my list, let me know some of your favorites and least favorites, and if there is a quest that you like more/less than I do, let me know, I'd be happy to hear it! Anyways the 21-40 list will be done eventually, and so far there are a lot more quests in that range that I like.

    All great except:
This is to teach the player about elemental weaknesses. While this is obviously not the best introduction to a mechanic it does it’s job. (And yeah elemental weaknesses aren’t used much but for some enemies it could be somewhat helpful.)

Personally I just don’t like how the quest was done. Yeah it teaches you about how elemental weaknesses work quickly, but a little too quickly if you ask me, it seems like something that new players are just going to forget. Players around the let’s say…. experienced players around the 30-40 range maybe would start to take elemental weaknesses more seriously. I’m not saying the quest didn’t do what it was supposed to do, I’m just saying it did so poorly.

You don't actually have to start in the savannah. You can go straight to the soldier next to the giant web. The savannah part is just there to introduce you to the fast travel between infested pit and the lava springs.

Wait you can? I thought you had to start in the Savannah since it tracks it there, interesting.

The quest pretty much just says "Yeah look this creature takes extra damage from fire, weapons... now anyway go into this cave so we can have a cutscene"
