softlocked quest?

I'm doing the 'Acquiring Credentials' quest on an assassin profile, and I've gotten to the part where the player needs to deflect the cannonballs back at the enemy ship. You're supposed to use a spell or an attack to send 5 cannonballs back in order to progress. However, since I'm on an assassin profile, none of my spells/attacks have enough range to hit them and I've become softlocked, unable to progress in the quest. Anyone else have this issue or know how to get out

 

I have played it with assassin just now, it's true it's harder but it's doable, you just have to move around more on the ship to make sure you hit the hitbox properly

 

you should be able to throw smoke bombs at the cannonballs as well iirc

 

you need to time smoke bombs they are ranged
