This is one I happen to know off the top of my head because the my school's system is pretty awful:
"The year that the person who was president during the war of 1812 (James Madison) died, Houston, Texas was founded".

Female hyenas have genitals that look almost exactly like penises. Their clits protrude 7 inches out, with their labia fused together and filled with fat deposits at the end resembling balls.

And before you ask, yes they have sex THROUGH them (doggy style), AND give birth through them. To picture the latter, imagine forcing a 2 lb meat loaf through a garden hose. This unfortunately causes 60% of hyena cubs to die on average from suffocating in their own mother’s clitoris, which can further lead to the mother dying of infection from the rot-

Yeah, hyenas got it rough. Oh and before you think males must have it way better, you’re wrong. Females completely dominate the social hierarchy; the lowest ranking female is dominate over the highest ranking male. Males endure extreme hazing from females, and receive the worst share of the food from hunts. As a result of this, male hyenas live only half as long as females on average.

Moral of the story, whenever you’re feeling down or that life is unfair, just appreciate that you’re not a hyena. As to why hyenas are like this; God knows why. But He must surely hate hyenas as well.

I once watched a documentary piece about a city, Harar in Ethiopia, that regularly feeds the hyenas meat and has this special relationship with them. I found a nice article about it.

The reason why one of your nostrils feels easy to breathe through, and the other difficult to breathe through, back and forth, is because your nose is trying not to dry out, so no amount of blowing your nose will stop it. This nasal cycle switches between nostrils every ~3-6 hours. It's like your nostrils are taking turns.

not in that way. we didn't decide they were possibly perfect based on our own biases, instead it was a process called carcinisation, which to summarise, is the process by which crabs have continuously re-evolved themselves into existence. i'm not sure of the reasons behind it, but they are probably closest thing to an evolutionary end point if things keep turning into them.

Fair. That or tardigrades. They survived all 5 mass extinctions and live on every continent, including Antarctica.

Though ironically, despite their resilience to extreme conditions, they are easily killed by a lot of organisms, including each other :-/

bumping this because random fact: There are 3 different species of bacteria that can metabolize Uranium, element 92, which is not only radioactive, but also a very toxic heavy metal, similar to others like Lead and Mercury. These species are called Shewanella putrefaciens, Geobacter metallireducens, and Paraburkholderia fungorum (the former-most also being a weak opportunistic human pathogen), and they can metabolize Uranium 6+ ions into Uranium 4+ ions. Other bacteria such as Traperia involuta and the Citrobacter genus can survive in very Uranium-dense environments. Citrobacter also absorb the Uranyl ions (UO2 2+) when given glycerol phosphate. A bit unrelated, but the fungus Rhizophagus irregularis can also heavily increase the concentration of Uranium in plant roots.

I have a fact to add, but first, I must say that learning about FLIPPING BACTERIA who can METABOLIZE fricking URANIUM is just- awesome!! (Learning about radiological disasters and anything related to radioactive stuff is just one of my hyperfixations and special interests. Namely, I like learning about what when wrong in those incidents, how they were handled, and what's been done to handle future incidents better/prevent future incidents. Although learning about the effects of radiation is pretty interesting, too. Plus the fact that Chernobyl and Fukushima are the only two places where corium was formed when the fuel rods melted within the reactors is a pretty fascinating fact for me. I take after my mother with the interest in Chernobyl and other man-made/engineering disasters.)

Okay, so! The little-known and (probably) boring fact that I know is that Three Mile Island wasn't America's first meltdown at a nuclear reactor. (Not only that, but Three Mile Island wasn't nearly as devastating as the press at the time proclaimed it to be. And that's because the radioactive gases that were released during that incident had EXTREMELY short half-lives. Like, half-lives that were a matter of seconds or a handful of minutes. So the risk to the public on THAT front was VERY low.) THAT honor goes to the SL-1 Meltdown, which happened on January 3rd, 1961 in the National Reactor Testing Site near Idaho Falls, Idaho. The SL-1 incident is also America's only nuclear meltdown that resulted in immediate fatalities.

The way the reactor was set up, one control rod in the center of the reactor was responsible for most of the reactor's generated power. for eleven days prior to the incident, the reactor had been shut down for the holidays. The three men who were in charge of operating the reactor had to manually move the center control rod up and out of the reactor by four inches, and four inches only, in order to start the fission process. However, the night of the incident, the guy who was lifting the center control rod accidentally pulled it 20 inches out of the reactor, which lead to the reactor going prompt critical within microseconds. THAT created a massive steam explosion and total meltdown, which sent the reactor vessel flying 9 feet into the air before settling back down in the place it originally was. One of the men was pinned to the ceiling and killed instantly by the reactor lid, one of the guys was killed instantly from the steam explosion and radiation, and the third man survived the initial explosion, but succumbed to intense radiation poisoning shortly after being put into an ambulance once help arrived.

Because of the accident with SL-1, the United States decided to abandon that reactor design.

And that's about all I can type up, because my brain is starting to feel fried again from being very low on mental energy. XP
