Moving forward, I think it would be a good idea to explain the scoring system or rubric in the thread, and perhaps give emphasis on an originality score to prevent a particular medium from dominating the contest

Usually with art judging you have multiple categories such as creativity, originality, craftsmanship, etc. Each art will get a score depending on how well they meet each criteria, and then the scores are totaled to get the final score. I'm assuming this art contest uses something similar, however it doesn't seem to be implemented well considering a lot of the winning artworks end up all looking extremely similar in subject matter as well as being mostly, if not all, from the digital 2D art category.

You also have to consider the effort and difficulty of certain mediums and put that into consideration when judging multiple types of mediums. Yes, a painting may not be as crisp and clear as a digital artwork, but the painter also did not have the luxury of the undo button, nor did they have access to zoom tools or thin, slick outlining brushes that will give a smooth line every time when used. For the painter, they would need to already have a high level of skill in the medium to make something really good, but for the painter to win in this contest, they'd have to have the skill level of Picasso or Van Gogh in order to even have a chance against the digital artworks.

Either 1 of 2 things need to happen: either make it clear which mediums are allowed to be used for these contests and specify this in the guidelines, or allow all mediums like it has been but judge each fairly and consider craftsmanship, originality, and creativity much more when judging the art. In addition, make the judging guidelines more clear so we aren't left in the dark about how our art is being judged. Most art competitions I have participated in have templates of the judging rubric, and when up to $250 worth of ranks/cosmetics is on the line, having this info available to all participants is crucial.

I'm mainly trying to give this feedback now because the hero crates are my most wanted crate type and I'd actually like to have a fighting chance next contest without this clear digital art bias getting in the way of not just me, but anyone wanting to create a traditional, tangible artwork.

It's dominating because that's what most submissions are, overwhelmingly (that's also why we can't do categories either, we can't predict what kind of submissions we will get and we can't change the format mid way if we don't have enough of a specific submission), we won't be posting scores or methods though to protect the integrity of future contests and keep the judging unbiased. Originality is definitely up there but to me there is also a risk part where if it's really really original it can be hit or miss, it's also a lot more competitive than you might think, all the top art comes very close to each other, that's why we give more prizes than there are spots, there aren't 5 winners in this one, there weren't last time either.

We will do some changes that will be explain later (i've already talked about them on discord), but we will probably change the format to make the submissions visible to everyone, which would serve as a validation system.

Like for example (take that with a grain of salt because that's just ideas for now), you submit on the form, with a link to a thread you made in your work with the prefix "contest sub" or something, everyone can see it, in the main contest thread is a list of the unvalidated contest subs, then after a week if no one raises questions and we are all good with it (people would be able to talk about the art in each of the submissions threads), we manually change the prefix to "Heroes 2023" or something and put it in the "validated" column and it will be judged. We may add a community vote for like a top 3 of all the validated submissions, but we will need to find restrictions to avoid vote bombing ideally, i don't know if that's even possible at this point in time (we may not able to do it, but we will see, we may add like a "most creative" prize instead decided by the judges if we can't properly do a community vote). All this would also mean it would take more time to organise, do and review contests in general. We get between 50 and 100 submissions usually so it will require work.

right way or not, is not a excuse to just use AI generate to win a contest, many artist pour lot of effort into it for summission to win a contest and or for fun.

and not defending AI generate art i think is cool thing but it using as masquerade tool to falsehood a (and undervalued) legitimate artist

That's a d*ck move tbh. All of us spends weeks making our own and he just use a drawing that only take 2 secs to generate and he didn't even draw it.
    Ruin real artists effort
    Shame on him

You all forget it's a contest just for fun (yes there's prizes, though not something you should worry about too much. . .) Wynn is not obligated to host the most perfect event regarding art. Hams (and others) do it purely to see how awesome people can be when making fan art.
Hams does his best, also in answering all your questions.

The AI thing will (or is) be dealt with in an appropriate matter. So don't go all out by saying your art submission should have placed. Please keep that in mind. Wynn will never praise someone who failed to follow the rules or cheat in any way.

I suggest you guys read through what Hams said and try to find peace.
To not sound all negative, very well done to all submissions. Not being placed does not mean your piece is bad. In my opinion, art should be something you're proud of, not something JUST to win some rewards on a server (unless you are a paid artist ofc ;>)

Have a good one, let's hope someone won't cheat next time!

That looks like it came straight from the silent expanse. If that doesn't get first place, I don't know what will. The theming is absolutely perfect and the details, THE DETAILS, ooze quality from every orifice that has, had, and will exist in the history of the greater universe. And that is why THIS is the finest of fine art.
