Aside from looking obviously AI generated, I'm curious who thought this looked better than the current 5th place or many of the ones that didn't make the top 5, because looking at this frankly makes my eyes hurt.

 

reminder that these are the same judges that gave 3rd place to a board game for bonfire festival instead of the stained glass sculpture

I am not hating on any of the winners whatsoever, but I was under the impression based on these words that any form of art medium would be accepted. The bonfire contest had all but one entry stem from digital art, and now this contest seems to only have digital art entries, even going as far as to award possible AI generated art a place.

As an artist who tends to work in physical mediums, as well for all others who use mediums that don't revolve around photoshop, why is it that only digital artworks win while any other form of medium seems to be flat out ignored?

I know at least 5 entries that did not use digital art (including mine) and none of them seemed even close to placing despite being unique, original, and creative ideas, yet a likely AI generated artwork places instead. While I doubt you'll reveal a list of all entries, I really, really hope that some sort of digital art bias isn't at place here, especially when the contest guidelines said any medium is welcome, as seen above in the image posted.

I am mainly saying this to advocate for anyone who spent countless hours and likely even their own money designing art for this contest outside of the digital realm. All mediums deserve to be represented if the guidelines state they will...

I have spent a week of my life DEDICATED to make my submission, the idea finding, drawing, colouring and detailling wasn't easy. I made my drawing full of reference.
Orja's snowglobe, her excitement and gale's sweater. (I'm also the first ever artist that drew Orja)
No one have made such accurate reference in their drawing AND YET A FUCKING AI ART WON??!!!

@Hams apparently your team's judging ability is severely lacking. Idk how the process was but you clearly need a much more qualified judges. Ik my drawing didn't won but respectfully, I really think it should've. At least to 5th cuz the one above is better than mine

 

Congratulations to the winners of the Wynncraft art contest! However, I must express my disappointment that some participants may have used AI to generate their artwork. Using AI in this way undermines the spirit of the contest and does not truly showcase the talents of the individual artist. It's cheating and reduce the value of the contest and the legitimate winner's achievements. We should celebrate human creativity and skill, not artificial intelligence's ability to mimic it...

...which is ironic because I generated that above paragraph using ChatGPT. Still shows how I feel about using AI though, as using it to generate a piece of art in only 1-2 minutes at the most compared to others spending hours (maybe even treading into days) on their project.

Putting the AI Art scandal aside though, big congratz to the people who actually put a lot of time into their work. Even though some submissions I saw made it into the top 5, there are a few more that I feel like should've got a spot (say for example, the gingerbread house @Undyne made, really hits a lot of the marks imo).

 

I've made a promise to myself that I'd participate in all and upcoming festival contests but seeing how all 5 judges decided to award an obviously ai generated artwork is really demotivating

 

And disappointed....
