Introducing Blue Ice - A new forum theme

With only a week left until the winter season, the forums is up for a seasonal facelift.

A while back I did an experiment on how custom themes could be implemented into Wynncraft Forums. Let's be honest, it was nothing more than a quickly put together trainwreck. This time I wanted to learn from everything that went wrong with the first try, and rewrite a theme from scratch, with the intent to make it actually usable and as robust as possible.

Blue Ice is/has...
-A massive overhaul of the site's look, complete with all-original artwork. Not just your average color swap!
-Based on the only acceptable theme: Starry Night.
-New color palette, comprising of icy blue, christmas red and gloomy snow.
-Narrower, more compact design.
-Very robust at its core, and compatible with any screen size. Even phones! Lots of testing and scouring the forums went in to achieve this. Trust me, I've been using this on my phone and PC for 2 months now, finding all the annoying edge cases.
-Tons of animations and other feedback on buttons and other clickable elements, with gentle snowfall in the background.
-Made with love, by yours truly <3

Spoiler: More minor changes

-Removed the "Previous usernames" section since it was disabled years ago.
-Upscaled all icons on the forums.
-Removed wynncraft "ads" that occasionally pop up in bottom right, but can easily be toggled back on.
-Removed central footer since it looked very out of place, and let's be honest, no one used it.
-Signatures are now visible on mobile as well.
-A lot of the theme was roundened
-The stylesheet is sectioned into categories and complete with hundreds of comments to make it easy for anyone to modify or use as a base for their own themes.

1. Set your theme to STARRY NIGHT. This is not designed to work with other themes, and will have issues due to scaling, different assets and colors.

2. Install Stylus or equivalent addon to your browser.

3. Open the front page of Wynncraft Forums, and click here in the Stylus menu to open up style editor:


4. Paste everything on this site to the style editor, and hit SAVE. I recommend that you also name it something recognizable like "Blue Ice", if you plan on using other themes.

5. You're done! If you want to disable the theme, you can always toggle it on and off in the Stylus menu.


Tested only on Firefox for Windows. Please report any bugs or feedback on this thread, if you'd like.

Spoiler: FAQ (questions that no one asked)

Q: You mentioned using this on a phone. How?
A: Some browsers, such as Kiwi browser, are chromium based and support desktop plugins natively. With them, you can install Stylus and follow the tutorial as you would on desktop.

Q: Can I modify/use this theme as a base for my own themes?
A: Absolutely. As I said in the post, I've deliberately organized the theme's CSS into sections, and included hundreds of helpful comments on what each line does. Just remember to give credit!

Q: I found a bug.
A: Post it on this thread or start a conversation with me on the forums. Once it's been fixed, youll need to repaste the theme into your style. You can monitor the status of bugs in the changelog section below.

Q: Uh oh, externally hosted assets. What to do?
A: All artwork is hosted on imgur.com. This means that if Imgur is down, the theme is down as well. At the moment I don't have a better solution that doesn't involve having my own CDN. This theme also uses Google fonts, which can be used to track you (and knowing Google, WILL track you). To prevent this, you can use a browser addon such as Decentraleyes that automatically stores a local copy of the fonts instead of always requesting them from Google.

Spoiler: Known bugs

-A few things are offset by a pixel or two. You probably wouldn't've even noticed, had I not told you.
-On the deepest depths of the forums, some minor colors might be incorrect.

It feels slightly slower (Chrome) but this is dope as shit

 

Due to it's nature, the theme runs on top of everything the default website already does. In a way it's almost like running 2 websites simultaneously. Additionally, it also makes quite heavy use of dynamically created shadows, which might bog older hardware down.

Edit: Since posting this, I've also pushed a lot of these changes to the main theme, and it should perform at least slightly better than before. For anyone looking to minify the current version, I've found this site to work quite nicely when turning restructuring off in the top right corner.

 

How do I change it on mobile? I can't find the stylus setting

 

Hamburger button in your title bar > Scroll down until you find stylus
