Update: My drivers are up to date. I decided to back up my files and wipe my computer.

My friend does that annually or more because he and and all his windows installs are cursed. It's a pain in the neck but it works every time 90% of the time.

Might sound like a stupid question, but is your laptop plugged in? Gaming laptops need to be plugged in to perform well since battery power isn't enough. Also how old is it and is it a quality laptop? The battery could straight up just be dying

I always plug in my laptop while playing video games. My laptop is 4 years old and it’s a decent laptop. Not the highest end, but definitely not a potato. The battery was replaced last January.

Quick update: so it sorta worked. My FPS is fine in most places of the game, though in some like the gear section of Fallen Factory it drops like a rock.

That may be the limitations of your hardware. Minecraft can be weirdly demanding nowadays and stuff like that often causes my fps to drop a fair bit too. Optifine might help if that's the case.

I know this thread is outdated, but I wanted to give a status update because it has important information for anyone that might have this issue in the future.

So it wasn't actually anything to do with Minecraft or the hardware per se. It was that the laptop was stuck in ultra low power mode, which caused my CPU to be stuck at 0.78 GHz no matter what was actually running. Usually you can just plug and unplug the original power adaptor, but in my case I had to remove the battery and plug it bag in to reset it. Now I'm getting 200+ FPS with Sodium, Lithium, and Phosphorus!

Glad to hear it was fixed and that it's working well now. I'll keep that in mind in case I ever have issues with a laptop in the future.

    Turn your render distance down
If you want to continue using 1.18.2:
    Install fabric mod loader
Install fps mods(sodium, phosphor, lithium, lazydfu, etc.)
Install iris shaders is you play with shaders

    Play on 1.12.2
    Install forge
    Install optifine if you haven't
Install more fps mods(vanillafix, foamfix, aiimprovements, etc.)
Install shaders if you play with those

I personally play 1.12.2, Intel Core i7-4790 with an AMD RX 570, which is quite a bit worse than yours, and with my mods I can average about 40 fps. Not the best, considering I have a 60hz monitor, but definitely an improvement over 10 fps.
