    I honestly have no clue why I did this.
    I made a joke about applying for CT with a rewrite of the dungeon in place of an application and now I'm actually doing a rewrite. Minus the "applying for CT" part.
    I know I'm far from an actual writer, but here's my attempt of trying to make 'Studying the Corrupt' make a little sense, even if I'm implementing my own lore for this.
    So basically, this is just some fanfic that was written by an actual insane person.
    And no, this is just dialogue, not the quest's layout.

    ~~~
    As normal, the quest starts near the entrance of Lost Sanctuary. You encounter the three mages and an excavator trying to open the dungeon with spells, but fail. They will begin their dialogue after a few attempts of trying to open the dungeon.
    [1/14] Pottur: Sorry sir, it's not budging.
    [2/14] Griswold: Damn, is this stone really impenetrable?
    [3/14] Pottur: Appears so, our strongest spells aren't making a scratch.
    [4/14] Griswold: Perfect. Just perfect.
    [5/14] Dumble: By the way, sir, what happened to your assistant? Gary? Garavan? Galvin?
    [6/14] Griswold: Garoth.
    [7/14] Dumble: Yeah, him.
    [8/14] Dure: He must've turned into a lizardman in the night and ran off to a cave.
    [9/14] Pottur: Dure, we've been over this too many times. That is a ridiculous theory and we watched him leave.
    [10/14] Dure: Oh, ok then.
    Dure will walk to a corner and starts eating bread.
    [11/14] Griswold: I wish someone would just come here and solve all our problems by breathing.
    After a brief moment, Pottur will notice the player's presence.
    [11/14] Pottur: Oh hey, a soldier.
    [12/14] Griswold: Huh? Oh! Hey there. How has your day been?
    [13/14] Griswold: How long were you standing there?
    [14/14] Griswold: Well, no matter! Can I run something by you? Or are you in the middle of something?
    • [1] I can help. What's the issue?
      • [1/8] Griswold: Okay, what a relief. I am Griswold, an excavator from Ragni.
      • [2/8] Griswold: The reason why I am here is that we believe that there is a powerful beast inside this sealed cave. As you can see, all our efforts have got us nowhere.
      • [3/8] Griswold: I heard it was sealed away long ago for a time of reckoning, and I'm surprised that nobody thought to open this place up sooner with the Corruption amok.
      • [4/8] Griswold: There was some ruins nearby that we believed to have some connection to this cave. I sent Garoth over there to check it, but he hasn't been back for a few days.
      • [5/8] Griswold: Personally, I'd start there for answers. But, seeing as you are the one who is better equipped, I think you'll be able to fend for yourself just fine.
      • [6/8] Griswold: What do you mean "what about the mages"? They won't even go near there for whatever reason.
      • [7/8] Griswold: Look, just get back here and maybe find my assistant. We've already lost enough people to the Corruption, I don't want to risk losing him either.
      • [8/8] Griswold: The place is south of here. Gray buildings in the mountain edge. Hard to miss. And please be careful.
    • [2] Maybe later.
      • [1/2] Griswold: Oh... that's...
      • [2/2] Griswold: Ok, I'll just wait here until someone else comes along then...
    [1/1] Griswold: You're back I see. Is there something you need?
    • [1] I can help. What's the issue?
    • [2] No, just checking up.
      • [1/1] Griswold: Oh, I see.
    The player finds the aforementioned ruins in the mountainside. They also find a small, recently dug out cave.
    This does not look normal. Maybe you should investigate it further?
    After entering the cave, the player will encounter a Gila Lizard as seen in the dungeon. After progressing and fighting various lizard and dinosaur-like mobs, they will come across an abandoned village resembling the ruins the player went to earlier. As they reach the end of this area, Garoth jumps out from his hiding spot with a stick in his hand.
    [1/7] Garoth: FREEZE!
    [2/7] Garoth: ...
    [3/7] Garoth: Uh...
    [4/7] Garoth: Hello...
    [5/7] Garoth: W-welcome to my house...
    [6/7] Garoth: ...
    [7/7] Garoth: Who the hell am I kidding? Why are you here and how did you find me?
    • [1] Your friend sent me after you.
      • [1/9] Garoth: Griswold?
      • [2/9] Garoth: Thank god! I thought I would be here for the rest of eternity!
      • [3/9] Garoth: Do you know a way out of here by chance?
      • [4/9] Garoth: Can't leave that way? Well, that's unfortunate.
      • [5/9] Garoth: I know another way out, but it'll be very risky to go that way.
      • [6/9] Garoth: I also heard some roars coming from it, so I made a hiding spot here just in case it came in here.
      • [7/9] Garoth: The thing is, I also found some stuff relating to a spell that can hopefully break the barrier in that cave on the bridge.
      • [8/9] Garoth: You need to get me out of here for it to work though. Some of the runes are pronounced differently to make it difficult for any intruders to have a hard time opening that barrier. It took me a while to decipher them.
      • [9/9] Garoth: Regardless, you look like you know what you're doing. You lead, I'll follow.
    • [2] Are you the guy that was believed to have turned into a lizard?
      • [1/8] Garoth: ...
      • [2/8] Garoth: Ok.
      • [3/8] Garoth: I am going to punch Dure if I get out of here alive.
      • [4/8] Garoth: Oh, I know you didn't refer to him by name for whatever reason, that just sounds exactly like the stuff he would spout.
      • [5/8] Garoth: Really? "Turned into a damn LIZARD"?!
      • [6/8] Garoth: Might as well say that the Corruption turned me into one and made me evil for no reason and that I'm the reason Creepers are mythical creatures! I'm sure people would buy that!
      • [7/8] Garoth: Oh, sorry about that.
      • [8/8] Garoth: Anyway, how did you find me?
        • [1] Your friend sent me after you.
    As the player and Garoth continue through the cave, Garoth will make small talk with the player. The dialogue for the fourth box will change based on the player's class.
    [1/5] Garoth: So uh... what's your name? It's going to be a short while but I think it'll be worth knowing.
    [2/5] Garoth: [playername]? Odd name, don't you think?
    [3/5] Garoth: Ah. Who am I to judge?
    • [4/5] Garoth: I'm guessing you're used to guard work? I'm asking because that spear you're holding looks as if it's never broken over a thousand years.
    • [4/5] Garoth: Griswold probably could've hired just you to sort out the barrier, but that wouldn't matter since I have the only way to break it.
    • [4/5] Garoth: Honestly, I'm quite surprised you use magic to do all that crazy stuff with your bow. I'll never get my head around it.
    • [4/5] Garoth: I thought you would sneak up behind your enemies. But a knife's a knife? Right?
    • [4/5] Garoth: I never saw you people much back then. How do you lug that totem around? Do you have arms of steel or something?
    [5/5] Garoth: Well, you've put your skills to good use at the very least.
    Near the end, the ground will start shaking.
    [1/2] Garoth: Something's coming!
    [2/2] Garoth: That building over there! Quick! Hide!
    As you and Garoth hide, you witness a corrupted Gila Lizard walk in view. It promptly kills two attacking Mogroths in a single blow with a third running past it, being chased by the Lizard.
    [1/5] Garoth: You saw that, right?
    [2/5] Garoth: That thing is corrupted. No way it can't be when it looks like that!
    [3/5] Garoth: That stone encrusted in its chest doesn't look natural by any means.
    [4/5] Garoth: It also looks like it just went in the direction we need to go. So if anything...
    [5/5] Garoth: That is all that stands between us and the exit.
    As the player and Garoth enter an overlook above the arena, Garoth will engage in dialogue.
    [1/10] Garoth: Looks like its feasting. We could probably sneak by.
    [2/10] Garoth: Wait, no. That door over there.
    [3/10] Garoth: I think that has a slot that the stone in that thing's chest can fit it.
    [4/10] Garoth: Okay, this isn't good, we might be stuck here.
    Garoth will then notice a cannon nearby.
    [5/10] Garoth: Actually...
    [6/10] Garoth: Oh. OH YES.
    [7/10] Garoth: There are some torches and a good number of cannon balls in this pile.
    [8/10] Garoth: I have a plan: you go down there with the torches and throw them on the ground. Then I'll shoot wherever you place the torch with the cannon.
    [9/10] Garoth: I know stealth might be easier, but we have to dislodge that rock from its chest.
    [10/10] Garoth: I'll stay here until that thing is dead. But just remember that I can help you with this.
    After killing the Corrupted Gila Lizard. The dialogue changes depending on if the player had Garoth assist them.
    (Killed with assistance)
    [1/2] Garoth: HAHA! WE DID IT!
    [2/2] Garoth: Well, at least I got to be somewhat useful! Let's get out of here before something decides to show up unannounced.
    (Killed without assistance)
    [1/2] Garoth: Good GOD! Remind me to never get on your bad side!
    [2/2] Garoth: Looks like you got the stone too! Let's get out of here while we can.
    This dialogue plays when Garoth is escorted back to the bridge.
    [1/2] Griswold: Ah! You're back! Any luck with-
    [2/2] Griswold: GAROTH?! YOU'RE ALIVE?!
    [3/3] Garoth: In the flesh!
    If the player told Garoth about what Dure said about him, he'll punch Dure.
    [3/5] Dure: OW!
    [4/5] Garoth: Never spout those insane conspiracy theories about me again.
    [5/5] Garoth: Sorry, for making you worry.
    [1/10] Garoth: I can thank this soldier for helping me. I would not have seen the light of day ever again if not for them.
    [2/10] Griswold: Well, I'm glad to see my assistant is still in one piece.
    [3/10] Garoth: It's fine, I noticed something was off with one of the walls over there and I found myself stuck in a cave full of monsters.
    [4/10] Garoth: But besides all that, take a look at this.
    [5/10] Griswold: A spell?
    [6/10] Garoth: I believe we can use it to open this barrier. It even has similar runes.
    [7/10] Griswold: Alright, worth a shot.
    [8/10] Griswold: Pottur, try this.
    [9/10] Pottur: So this is our key? Okay, we'll give it a shot.
    [10/10] Pottur: Dumble! Dure!
    The three mages cast the spell. The barrier breaks with several corrupted orbs flying out.
    [1/3] Garoth: ...
    [2/3] Griswold: ...
    [3/3] Pottur: ...
    • [1] Was that the spell?
      • [1/2] Garoth: No, that couldn't have been. It came from below the barrier.
      • [2/2] Garoth: I don't think...
    • [2] Oh no.
      • [1/1] Garoth: "Oh no" indeed.
    • [3] ...
      • [1/2] Griswold: Really? Nothing? I was expecting some kind of reaction.
      • [2/2] Garoth: Well, I wasn't expecting that to happen!
    [1/11] Garoth: I don't think the beast in there is going to help us...
    [2/11] Griswold: Well, what now?
    [3/11] Pottur: Well, the soldier might know what they're doing. I think they can handle it.
    [4/11] Pottur: Besides, we don't have a lot of combat spells at our disposal.
    [5/11] Garoth: I don't expect the soldier to have trouble dealing with whatever is down there.
    [6/11] Garoth: They've proven enough to me. I think they can survive being down there.
    [7/11] Pottur: I figured. I hope you can survive this too, soldier.
    [8/11] Pottur: Dumble, Dure, we'll be heading off now!
    [9/11] Griswold: I'm not gonna let what you did slide.
    [10/11] Griswold: We wouldn't be here if not for you, so you might as well take these.
    [11/11] Griswold: Other than that, I wish you well in your travels.
    ~~~

    So yeah, I just rewrote this quest and I have no clue if I did a half-decent job.
    And again, I have no clue why I did this.
