Should the dwarves be tried for war crimes?

I feel like after the events of the dwarves and dozens questline I feel like they need to be tried for war crimes and the king of Rodoroc needs to be put on trial or punished in some way and there should be like, a Geneva convention or something.

 

I would say no just because most of the dwarves that committed those war crimes have passed away. The only ones I think should be tried for war crimes are the ones who killed that dogun at the first part since they are the only ones shown to kill someone in an inhumane way.

 

Yes, I will personally try all of them, even the children.

 

I think the King of Rodoroc deserves some kind of punishment- any dwarf who knew the truth and still fought to doguns deserves one. This is a good realization, really.

 

The Doguns effectively released a sentient WMD, so I'm not sure they're innocent either

 

morally speaking? yeah probably. but if you want to invoke the geneva convention and real world parallels - imperialist colonizers very rarely face consequences

 

Who has the power to enforce this on them and, if there is someone, would they think it worth the cost?

 

I said this somewhere some time ago and I will say it now: the only thing dwarves should have done was MAYBE the whole torture+public execution thing.
It seems everyone forgets that doguns were mf demon worshippers even BEFORE the war.
Like, these guys could destroy the entire world, and dont tell me they wouldnt, if that wasnt their intention then why would they worship that one demon capable of doing it?
If that was an option I would just exterminate all doguns, they tried that 2 times and who said they wouldnt wouldnt try once again. I mean, they even kill their supporters (Axelus).
Questline says that dwarves made propaganda to win the war but its so ironic their "lies" are actually facts!
The real question should be if doguns should be tried for war crimes, and the answer is yes

You can't be serious, right? Let me give you a refresher on the Molten Heights lore:

The Doguns were the original inhabitants of the Molten Heights, for well over 4000 years. Yes, they worshipped the demon Garaheth, but a) there are no records of him doing a lot of demonic things such as leveling a Realm, and b) you're free to worship whoever you want as you should have freedom of religion. In any case, the Doguns lived peacefully in their own nation. That was until 100 AP, when the Dwarves came from the west, who then started to mine the Heights for precious ores. The Dwarves wanted living space -- fun fact, that's Lebensraum in German -- so they wanted to start a war. And to appear as not-imperialists, they painted the Doguns as demons. Many Doguns were entombed, i.e. permanently turned to rock, but still conscious. In 300 AP, Garaheth was defeated in some manner, causing the Doguns to surrender, but the Dwarves gave no quarter and turned them all to stone anyway. Article 23 from section IV of the 1907 Hague Convention prohibits that, by the way.

So to summarise: a foreign nation launches an invasion out of greed, propogates a narrative to its own citizens that the place they're invading is full of evil guys, all the while killing civilians really just for the hell of it. And they won. I guess pontooning across the rivers of molten rock must be easier than the Donets.

 

Ok your right but worshipping a demon that has the intent and power to kill everything (Axelus wouldn’t have told us to kill it if it didn’t) is still pretty messed up.
Even then, who would try them for war crimes? The Doguns do not have the power or control to do so, and everyone else on Gavel have other problems to deal with. Are dwarves supposed to try themselves for war crimes?

 

Does dwarves in this case count dwarves who were unaware?
Mind you, many of them likely didn't know, or were maybe even unconcerned.
I can agree with the people with power being charged, and maybe there's an argument for the people who carried out the most direct form of war crimes, as to a certain point you need to be in charge of your own actions, other than that I generally disagree.

 

The Dwarves already made a pact, the king achknowledged his sins and made peace, there is no need for revenge or violence for it completely goes against the current treaty.

fighting back against your oppressors does not make you evil, and the fact that you are so willing to think this does not reflect well on you
