For a long time it was assumed that the people who scattered the Wynnexcavation crystals across the world were the Twains. However, with the more recent information provided by the secret discovery "A Wynnic Excavation" tells us that the crystals were found and scattered in 800 BP, meaning it could not have been the Twains. Who did it, then?

I recently was talking about the Twains and their former relation to the crystals when I somehow got them confused with a certain other group of 4, and then I realised that they matched near-perfectly with the locations of the 4 crystals. Who am I talking about? I'm talking about the 4 trainers of Bob. Mael, Chak, Ethe and Fier.

Now I know what you may be thinking. "Mael is a Twain! He can't possibly have hidden it!" and you're right if so. But here's my theory.

I think that the crystals were handed to 4 powerful magic users who defended their areas, to be hidden nearby.

First, the Yellow Crystal. Chak lived in the desert. The ancient empires of the desert had fallen 600 years prior and had fallen to ruin, so perhaps an early Almuj existed here. Chak may have known a lot about the desert's history due to being the protector of his area. He might have explored the ruins to make sure they were not a threat to his people. At this point, the temple in which he buried the Yellow Crystal might not have been fully buried yet, so perhaps he chose that place to hide the crystal.

Next, Mael. I obviously don't think Mael hid the crystal, rather I think Marius, his adoptive father, hid it. The Blue Crystal is located in a cave that is right across the lake from Twain Manor, which is a smart place to guard a crystal since he lived there and could keep an eye on it. I think Marius may have been incapable of teaching Bob how to use a bow, however, so he instead taught his son Mael how to use a bow since he knew Mael would continue watching over the mansion and guiding the spirits there. I'll go into more detail later.

Then there was the Red Crystal. This is an interesting one. Ethe's wand, Ethereal, is a water wand. This means that he may have been a water mage. It's possible that the miners noticed the Red Crystal's fiery properties, and decided Ethe was a good person to entrust it to. However, Ethe lived in the Nivla Forest Village and knew that if he were to keep the crystal, it would mean danger for the forest. He may have instead decided to throw it to the ocean, knowing it would never be found there. It somehow ended up not too far from the shores of Gavel and was able to form a volcanic archipelago around it, creating the volcanic isles.

Finally there was Fier. Fier lived in either Troms or the nearby area, making the old Olmic ruins nearby a great place for him to hide the Green Crystal. He might have accidentally discovered the tragedy that had happened to the Olm nearby, though there is no evidence for this. There's actually very little information about Bob's trainers, and that's a problem.

So, you may be thinking. How? How were they alive all the way back in 800 BP? Well, the trainers are very strange in nature. I think all of them except Mael were actually ghosts. I believe the crystals may have granted their guardians an extended lifespan or immortality, explaining how Marius was so old. The twains doubted Marius' age, and thought he was immortal. I think he may have given up on his immortality once his family began to collapse. Although the Lusuco Library claims he was mortal, it's unknown who wrote the books. It's probable that they just had an extended lifespan, as the other 3 were again implied to be ghosts. I think perhaps Marius wanted Mael to do his job for him because Mael could take care of the spirits near the mansion and was more capable.

I haven't really explained why I think they're ghosts though, so I'll get into that now. The first 3 trainers don't seem to be too strange, though Mael was definitely alive because the books in the Ragni library say that the local spirits were still under control. The spirits became loose once Mael died. There honestly isn't much evidence that Chak and Ethe were ghosts, but there's no evidence that they were alive either. However, there is some decent evidence that Fier was a ghost. It's said that when Bob reached him, he was stood there with his arms outstretched and ignored the people dying in the burning city around him, possibly because he couldn't do anything to help them. Even though this doesn't prove that Fier was a ghost, it certainly does imply that there was something really strange about him.

So why were the guardians of the crystals the tutors of Bob? Well, I think that Bob's weapon may have been made of concentrated crystal power, or at least had something to do with the crystals. The crystals seem to have had something to do with Dern and may even have been the motivation of the Dern beast's attack on the Olm in the Silent Expanse, since they were hidden. Bob's weapon was described as being black with a purple glow, just like Dernic spikes. The weapons seen in the Wynn Plains Ultimate cutscene use the Dernic skins. Amadel became a dernic monster when he used the powers of the 4 crystals and was incredibly powerful, more powerful than most of the nightmare creatures inhabiting the Silent Expanse. Possibly more powerful than the Eye canonically, though I doubt this. Bob seemed to have enhanced spells when he used his weapon, meaning it had some property to it that helped his spells do more. These could have been a result of his years of training, though I personally believe it was his weapon that allowed for these abilities. I think the weapon he used was possibly created using the power of the crystals, explaining why their guardians knew so much about it. Maybe the Olm created the crystals as a way of allowing a future hero to stop the darkness, which is weird because Bob ultimately failed to stop the Dern beast.

Sorry about this thread being incredibly long but it's my first big theory in a while and there's a lot of details to discuss.

I'm sorry, but, I'm not sure where the assumption that it was the twains in the first place came from.

I don't know either, but it was definitely wrong. People probably thought so because of the Blue Crystal being placed outside Twain Manor and I think there's some dialogue somewhere about the crystals being hidden by 4 powerful magic users, though I have absolutely no idea where this dialogue is

If your point is that you can't remember anything about 4 magic users hiding the crystals, then what you said is fair, But if you think I'm talking about the Twains here, you clearly did not read the theory

That's because Fiertè wasn't the level 70 meta item. The level 70 meta item was Scythe.

Then again Scythe's lore isn't linked to the masters

WynnExcavation Site C. It used to only mention "four individuals who inhabited a mansion a long time ago" though it was changed to "various civilizations over hundreds of years" in 1.20.
