Part 2. Chapter 10: Teneur

I can… feel myself breathing. It’s all dark.

Sleeping… I’m sleeping.

Get up…

You need to get up…

My eyes still closed, I groaned as my foggy mind started to shift into consciousness once again. What… was happening?

A noise somewhere around. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Qira walking towards me.

“Gale. Gale, are you alright?!” She said as she hurried to my side.

My vision’s still blurry. Wait…

The memories are starting to flood back.

“Q- Qira…?”

I lifted my hand to check. It’s… not… ghost-colored anymore. In fact, it feels heavy.

Heavy… my whole body was being pulled down. I need to… get a feel of this. I tried to get up.

“Urgh…”

Qira reached out and helped me into a sitting position against some pillows.

“It… it worked.” I said weakly, looking at my palms. “It worked!”

I just realized that I was panting. I took a deep breath, feeling air flow into my nostrils. It feels… uh…

“Tiring…”

“Hm?”

“Feeling... tired. Wh-”

Qira quickly grabbed a glass of water on the nightstand. She must’ve gotten it while I was unconscious. “You haven’t eaten… here, drink this. I’ll have the servants get something for you later.”

Water… right. I lifted it up and took a large gul-

“ACK!” Choked on the liquid. “Oh god, I need to get used to this.” I gasped, repeatedly coughing. “This feels strange…”

“You just returned a few hours ago, it’ll take some time for you to get back on your feet again.” Qira said. “You should take a few days of rest.”

Speaking of which…

“Oh, yeah, about that.” I spoke. “Looks like you’ll have to get a new division leader, huh?”

“That’s right, I haven’t done any replacements yet. I’ve closed down the challenge temporarily until I manage to create a suitable leader.”

Still clutching onto the glass cup, I spotted the orb that was also on the nightstand. “So… is that thing now just, deactivated or something?”

Qira looked at the object as well. “Not too sure… I might have to ask Orphion about it when he contacts me. But for now, I’ll be keeping it here. Just in case.”

“Alright.” I said, getting out bed and reaching towards the nightstand to place the glass back.

“Wait… Gale?!”

“Hm? What?” I looked down.

I’m… floating?

“Wait a minute…” I get out of my bed completely and proceeded to lift my body into the air.

“…WHAT?”

I put my hand on the nightstand’s surface and concentrated slightly. It phased through.

“Is- is this like- a side effect of the revival process or something?!” I exclaimed, panicking.

“Maybe it’s… intentional.” Qira said, also sounding a little alarmed. “I’ll have to ask the Light Beast about that as well. Just… lie back down for now, you don’t have much energy.”

She’s right, the adrenaline’s wearing off, and I’m starting to feel exhausted… I lie back down.

“This bed… it’s… more comfortable than I thought it was.” I commented, deliberately feeling the soft fabric with my fingertips. The full weight of my new state is slowly coming down on me. I’m alive.

“It is indeed.” Qira answered, also feeling the bed she was sitting on with a hand, albeit absentmindedly. “I suppose your full sense of touch has returned, you should be able to feel anything now.”

Anything…

I sat up from the comfortable duvet and hugged Qira for what was the third time today. This time, I could feel her. Everything about her.

…

…god, I really need to stop crying.

I really like how the mobs that appeared in the story are actual mobs that can be found in-game.

This is most likely the dawn summoner, pretty self-explanatory

This should be the Ellida Whale

Not completely sure about this one, since the wiki is missing a few images, the closest thing I could find was the Seraphic Presence, found in the Nexus of Light itself. However, these aren't really "flaming", although the usage of that word could just be what they appeared to look like to a vulnerable dark creature.

The only mob in the ONoL with a giant eyeball is the Athanatic Witness, it could also be a Crawling Curer, but those don't have legs.

I feel like I missed a few, but let me know if I got any of these ones wrong

 

Hi, thanks for replying, I really love how you noticed all of those details!

As for the Seraphic Presences, it is a nod to the actual Seraphim from the Bible and other sources, lightly referencing their fire-theme and their characteristic of covering their faces and feet with two of their three pairs of wings.

I hoped you enjoy reading it! I haven’t gotten a lot of replies here so I really appreciate this one.
