Some thoughts after my 7 years of wynncraft

    I've always held the belief that people shouldn't be able to do or pay something so that they can have an advantage over others; if two boats are fishing in a lucrative area, it would be immoral for one of the boats to cast it's net infront of the other's, in order to catch more fish. Or if two students are taking the same test, it would be immoral for one have an advantage because they got passed answers from a friend who did it earlier. The same goes for wynncraft. Wynncraft players should not be able to disadvantage other players by grouping up and making a plan that works for them.

    Totems aren't great, but I can stand them. They give players that pay an advantage over players that don't, by allowing them to choose where the extra XP is (conveniently always where the ranked player is grinding).

    Bombs are great, in that they affect the whole server where the player is. However, when a whole guild is on the right server before the first bomb goes...
    It would be better if a global bomb system could be figured out.

    Locally hosted bombs also make bomb bell and champion slots a way that paying players can get an advantage over f2p players - in the case of champion slots, it clearly disadvantages the free to play players as well

    Extra trade slots are by far the most pay to win feature on wynncraft. The fact that if you don't pay, you can only sell 5 things at a time prevents free to play players from entering the market nearly as quickly.

    They should just lootrun, you say...
    well, there's a lootrunning discord that happily clears all the valuable chests on every server every 2 hours, disadvantaging everyone who is not on it. Just join it? How many players don't even look at the forums or discord? Heck, they might not even have discord.

    Ok, but they don't even need to be rich. Mythics aren't a requirement for anything.
    No, but by being ultra rare and/or expensive, along with being balanced in a ridiculous way so that they are many minutes faster at doing somehting like TCC or LI, mythics are another way that one group of people gets a clear advantage over another group.


    I'm not saying something has to be done. I get that money is required to run the server, and some people only spend money if they get an advantage over others.
    I get that the lootrunners' discord don't intend to make lootrunning worse for everyone else, it's a side effect of loot chests being the most effective way of gaining money and of server-sided chests.
    I get that people want to feel accomplished and powerful after spending thousands of hours in the game, but I really don't think that the accomplishment should come from a 7/1000000 chance, and should be accessible to everyone who puts in the same investment into the game.
    And I get that the admins and devs put their 100% into this game that we all love and play. I know there are things that could be improved, but don't you dare put it down to "if only Salted did this..." Salted's been doing "this" for at least the past 7 years. We asked for Gavel, More advanced gameplay systems, corkus, more bank space, more quests, bugfixes, revamps, crafting, ingredient and emerald pouches, fast travel, housing, more item choices, armor skins, more events, etc. Yes, there is always something to work on. Yes, the devs are working on one of the many items on that list. Give them a break; don't play the blame game on this thread; it's not their fault.
     
  2. your issues with lootrunning are completely detached from the existence of the lootrun discord - regardless of whether it existed, there would be lots of people running worlds and making it hard to find good ones

    having only 5 trade slots is certainly annoying, but "the most pay to win feature" is complete hyperbole. discord is more than adequate for conducting trades

    i'm not sure how completing tcc "minutes" faster is a game breakingly unfair advantage. mythics are a reward for plsying the game a lot, and while i do have issues with the main ways they can be obtained (monotonous, heavily rng reliant) i don't think their balance is a huge issue. what i do think is an issue is that some playstyles/neat features are locked behind mythics, but that's not really tied to their overall strength

    ok maybe not the MOST pay to win feature but the fact that such a universal mechanic is pay walled is absolutely absurd

    except that a good chunk, if not majority, of the wynn playerbase does not care/actively participate in discord communities and primarily uses the trade market to complete purchases and sell items, and having those extra slots is incredibly fundamental to the process

    bit of a weird sentiment here but it ties in nicely to my primary gripes with mythics as a tier in game and how they're being handled in regards to actual rarity and gameplay balance

    first off the argument that mythics "give a clear advantage over other players" is really weird considering how they really are no "pvp" aspects to either raids or li (i don't know if i'd consider raiding a primary form of acquiring wealth coming from someone who used to be #1 in total raid count, so i think the argument fails in that aspect) but there is merit to it when considering wars which are a whole different bag of worms which someone more qualified than me should tackle

    secondly i agree in that i really really dislike mythics as a tier because of how ambiguous their current place in gameplay actually is

    Totems and bombs I tend to agree with but realistically they can definitely be used by non ranked players. Some people do share totems while grinding and things like church parties regularly reach 10-16 people.

    trade market slots are ok imo. I feel no one would be surprised by the fact that playtime, owning a rank and using discord/forums all correlate. Realistically the people with 5 slots are low level and just playing the game normally (I.e. quests) whereas endgame players are lootrunning, using discord or have a rank (more likely that is). As such it isn’t much of an issue.

    Your point about lootrunning doesn’t follow on from your thesis about paying. Lootrunners guild is free to use for anyone. Even without it there’s plenty of black market chest tracker bots that I know of that people just make using the Wynn api. At least with the discord it is completely fair. Anyone who has a Wynn profile can join and use it regardless of rank/money. Are you gonna complain about people using wynnbuilder to make builds next?

    mythics: while some are expensive, so many can be bought by just doing all quests and not spending the rewards. They provide and incentive to grind and are one of few items that hold value even without good rolls. For TCC… you realise that a mythic user benefits their entire team for the raid right? They don’t get out before their team or anything. LI can be a similar case but it is also about what build you use. Mythics also provide access to gimmicky styles. There’s a lack of good rage abuse weapons outside of things like hero and gma.
