In the News YouTube Dislikes Will No Longer be Publicly Shown

Not gonna lie one of the worst decisions of YouTube recently. Even beyond censorship or integrity or criticism or whatever, it’s just gonna to be way more annoying to see if videos are actually helpful or not. Like sometimes for my math classes, I need to look up examples for a concept/problem bc it’s not very well explained in my class. And half of the time I need to watch out bc the videos can be misleading or downright poor. So how else am I supposed to tell if a video is good or not if the comments are disabled?

What are your thoughts?

 

They've been talking about this and not doing it for such a long time I didn't actually think it was going to happen. My money is on it being reverted after some time. Then again, you can always count on YouTube to make you lower your expectations.

 

I guess they really don't want people to see their ratios on their Rewind videos anymore

Edit: Speaking of which, damn. I didn't even know they canceled Rewind 2020 and officially are no longer making them anymore as of October 7th. Didn't even notice lol. Goes to show how shit they have become with Rewind 2018 being literally the most disliked video on their whole site, but I still have a bit of a fondness for the earliest Rewinds.

 

Now they can live in blissful ignorance of those Rewind ratings. lolyoutube

 

More likely, a lot of idiots are swarming and disliking videos about COVID-19, so YouTube is doing something short-sighted to fix that problem.

That's putting the cart before the horse. Most often when creators turn off ratings, it is because they were being "bullied or harassed" for their actions shown in the video. Then when they disable ratings to shield themselves from them, they only get "bullied" more. Besides, only the most egotistical creators are actually truly hurt by a bad like/dislike ratio. This change benefits only them.

I want to joke about youtube rewind, but eh.
Sad to see this happen tho.
