My Experience at the 2021 Wynncraft Olympics

Well, it's over. This was honestly one of the best events I've ever taken part in, and while there may not be a 2022 one, I hope the community formed between Team Corkus will last.

So, what is this going to be about? Well, what I did to participate in the events. I will not go over the stuff I did not participate in, or go over the Scavenger Hunt and Capture the Flag stuff, since that is not nearly as intense as the other stuff (they were still pretty cool though, and Team Corkus DOMINATED in Round 3).

Before the Olympics + The Opening Ceremony
At this time, there were six teams, Troms, Pirate Cove, Corkus, Rodoroc, Cinfras, and Aldorei. I saw the thread and I thought, 'Well, I've had fun at events like these before, so I wonder what will happen this time?' And so, I DM'd WithTheFish, and after taking a quick survey, he offered me to join Pirate Cove, but I declined, saying that Cinfras or Corkus would work, although I was fine with either option.

And so, I was a Team Corkian. And I was with these guys:

The opening ceremony did get delayed, so I did what any reasonable person would do at the opening ceremony: Hold an item with a Water Spear model in a boat. (that's called foreshadowing)

Catch the Fish Round 1
So, what is Catch the Fish? It's quite simple, get a Hunted class and kill the fish.

This was the most intense match of Catch the Fish in the olympics for my PoV. I got a Shaman that had Macabre and Hourglass, Macabre as a secondary for tankiness and totem spells, and Hourglass for when fish was around. It started in Detlas, with most of Team Corkus taking an exit to watch, and...

He took the west exit, the one I was guarding. However, don't think Fish on a Level 11 class manages to be an easy catch. Like the name says, he was slippery as hell. And, he also has Teleport Scrolls to a lot of places. You could corner fish in Llevigar, then he would be in Corkus City. I was on a boat, going wherever the hell I could just to catch him in my grasp, but I never could. We even got help from someone on Aldorei, @Crystqllized , to help us, but it was no use. And then, the calamity happened.

There are only two rules for Catch the Fish:
- Don't do anything against Wynncraft's Rules
- Have a Hunted class Level 21 or below to kill Fish

... and my hunted class leveled up to 22. That meant... I was disqualified. I deleted the class shortly afterwards, with no use for it. The winners of the match, were MrRickroll and Albin, Cinfras and Troms respectively.

However, there was also another piece of news, the secret event that was teased, and it was actually... A Build Battle, using only the default house blocks. I did not help in that, but my team made a Corkian Amphitheater and ended up getting second place in it. And what's more, Team Aldorei disbanded, giving us two new members, @Sir_Doomed and @Crokee . It was also at this point when we had developed a rivalry between us, and Pirate Cove, as we were now in last, with Aldorei disbanding.

Oh yeah and also Boat Race 1, I could not attend that cause I was diagnosed sick with... *thunder claps* Suspected Exposure of the 'rona... Don't worry, I'm fine now, but my life was hell for like 5 days.

Catch the Fish Round 2
And now, Round 2. You might ask, 'But Da_Homeboi, you can't participate in Catch the Fish! You don't have an eligible hunted class!' and to that I say, I indeed do not, but I CAN scout for my team. So ClawUwU was going to be in a hunted class, and this time, Fish teleported from Detlas to Llevigar. While I was on my Lv 105 Mage that had access to the Nexus, everyone who had a hunted class had to use the Seaskipper, so that was a bloodbath. And for about 15 minutes, I was bored, just scouting the Llevigar Plains, until... I saw him. The fish, on a White Horse, he was speeding away, and I was yelling in party chat where he was: the Karoc Quarry, and I followed him to Bucie, and then the Light Forest.

However, I lost him. So I just decided to go to Cinfras, since it would only be natural for him to go there, because the way you caught fish was not by following the rules of his game, but bending them. He plays Mind Games on you. However, when I met up with Claw in Cinfras, I saw a green outline.

I forgot to mention that I had friended fish with the intent of tracking him on the Dynmap, but I did not know that they also had to friend you back to track them. HOWEVER, this was not against the rules, as it was not against any rules on Wynncraft, and I did not kill fish. That green outline meant one thing - that was Fish hiding in the Wheat Fields. However, other teams were there too, and Claw killed one person (forgot the name), and Fish, meaning we had won.

Boat Race Round 2
I had to. I got out my Tempo Trident, and my boat. Let the Boat Race begin...

This was the least eventful for me, but was relaxing. It was fairly simple, go from Nemract to Jofash. I did not do the last boat race because of... you know what, so I just followed the crowd, from the Durum Isles to the Ice Islands to Dead Island and then Jofash. It was fairly uneventful, and Troms took the dub.

Finishers
With the Olympics mostly concluded at the start of August, all that was left was Raids.

I'd say we did well.


And thus, the closing ceremony. Along with one last round of Catch the Fish, that I did not participate in. Comet was setting up an afterparty for Team Corkus along with other olympians. And thus...

It was over. I ended up getting an LE as a participation reward, and Team Corkus ended up in 3rd. But while we were not exactly the best team (gratz to Troms for winning the olympics), I would say we had the most community, and with WynnCon coming up, I feel as if we will stick together for that too.

This Event was one of the best Wynncraft experiences so far for me, Ill give a really quick rundown of what it was like for me.

Catch the Fish Round 1:
I had to scout as I didnt have a hunted class, I pretty much ended up in nemract talking on discord, while my team chased down a member of another team, Rodorpc, who we could see on map and thought was chasing fish, we couldnt catch him and fish was over in the jungle or something.

Catch the Fish Round 2:
I was travelling in a car for this one. HOWEVER, I had my computer. So I was scouting, trying to head to cinfras, but it was so laggy I decided to just stay in a campsite next to the river sage and asked fish to come to me, he didnt :( but ClawUwU found him in a wheat field in cinfras, so, naturally I tried to congratulate them on winning that round, and we basically had a war over trading, I would put 1 emerald, they would put 2, ect until we were threatening to trade mythics.

Boat race 2:
I like to think I was somewhere in the 6th to 8th range but I genuinely have no clue

Scavenger Hunts:
1:
I found that scav hunts are REALLY tiring... But the rush of adrenaline when you find one after searching for hours is amazing! One of the most interesting events in my opinion, I found one in a house, which was really hard as we couldnt distinguish where that house was from, I also found another in cotl at the exact same time as ClawUwU!

2:
Right off the bat I knew 2 of them, one was detlas somewhere and the other was under sanctuary bridge! however the others were REALLY hard, and there was one, in what looked like a pipe, with no outside references to look for, it was quite literally a pipe, we still hadn't found it by the next day, so I knew what I must do. I summoned the best person I knew for finding random places in wynncraft, My friend Crazy_catgirl. She found it in maybe 15 mins, where was it? some random cave like thing in time valley.

3:
Didnt participate in, was late at night for me.

4:
TrekkieCow124 knew where 2 of them were right off the bat. I sent myself after the second picture, which looked like it had a sky tree and a pine tree together, I spend ages searching the border of the sky islands and cotl. After maybe an hour, my best friend glamisjames managed to find it! It was near lake gylia of all places!

5:
5 was hard. They were all in caves! I knew where 2 of them were and someone else (sorry I cant remember) knew where another was, but after that we were stumped... we got some help from other teams though I think...

6:
I hate this one in hindsight, what we did in this one always seemed stupid to me, As I joined I realised we had teamed up with team rodoroc. Stupid move in my opinion, but I knew where 1 of them was off the bat, the rest of that event went by really slowly, and rodoroc decided to win that one, even when I suggested we both win and tie.

Capture the flag.
Round 1 did not go our way, my riddle was almost instantly solved and we couldn't get a flag back, I got really annoyed with Team Cinfras over their riddles. One of them was this: Between Snow And Sand, An Ancient Land, A Place Marked Only By Water.
Know where that is? No? Well neither did anyone else. We later found out It was some random area of the coastal trail. I found somewhere which matches the riddle perfectly. Go Slightly east of the big peninsula north of Ragni. look for the big underwater hole.
I cant remember round 2 well...
ROUND 3 THOUGH! OH HO Round 3! we ended up with 4 OUT OF THE 5 FLAGS, LETS GOOOOoooo....

Raids: I participated in all the raids, I like to think I encouraged the team to do them, but I dunno. Raids... well we never thought raids were our strong suit... I think we did well though!

Closing ceremony and afterparty:
Closing ceremony was alright, nothing really happened... except revealing who won build battle and who won in general (Team Troms won, congrats guys) but then, I was going to unveil something I was planning for a while! (literally everyone in the team knew about it)
I held an afterparty on my housing island, where everyone who was there, went into the secret corkus bunker, and I gave everyone a scroll, to commemorate this event! Aaand then yuu crashed the party. The End.

But seriously, thanks to Team Corkus and all other participants of this event, It was so fun and I can't wait for another if possible! I hope to see you at Wynncon!

 

This event was SO MUCH FUN!!! I made so many new friends and I ended up finding tons of cool Wynncraft spots. Unfortunately, I couldn’t participate in half the events because my computer BROKE and made me unable to play. Oh well, here’s my experience as part of Team Corkus:

Boat Race 1: I decided not to follow the route everyone else was taking and go around ice islands - I was under the impression this was faster. It was not - I was one of the last to arrive. Oh well, it was a lot of fun anyway. I also accidentally triggered the dialogue for entering the Magic Nexus from mage island, so that added a whole new layer of pain to it.

Boat Race 2: computer broke, but I was there in spirit.

Catch The Fish 1: for the first round, our team chased down a member of team rodoroc, thinking they were chasing Fish. That was the best part of this round for me - it was a whole lot of fun! I ended up catching them around the Almuj waterfall and they did not know where Fish was, so we wasted like 20 minutes. Eventually fish was caught, and so round two began. I first hid near the Southern entrance of Detlas to look for fish. Fish headed west, so I spent time trying to catch up. Eventually, I decided to scout with my other classes, caught a glimpse of Fish around nesaak, and alerted my team. Unfortunately, we did not get there in time.

Catch the Fish 2: I would have LOVED to participate, but I can’t with a broken computer.

Scavenger Hunts: These events were fun ones. I had all my classes spread out across the map, and each had their own little assigned zones to minimize time spent traveling.
Scav 1: I couldn’t find any of these - I was out for 90% of the hunt. The rest of the team was awesome though, great job guys!
Scav 2: I spent SO LONG looking for the sewers one, and it was under time valley. Sigh…
Scav 3: Cold and ClawUWU carried this one. I missed the one in Volcanic Isles which was sad for me, but hey what can you do.
Scav 4: I made up for my incompetence in the other hunts by finding 4/6 scavenger places.
Scav 5: This one was a fun one now that I was actually looking, lol. Finding the one in Sky Islands was the high point of this round.
Scav 6: as said, we teamed up with Rodo for this one. I’m hindsight, this was a mistake. We both ended up getting stuck on the fourth one, so when Rodo found it they took the win. Oh well, second is good I guess.

Capture the Flag: My second favorite out of all the events. I love creating riddles and writing poems, and so this was a dream come true.
Round 1: This did not go well for us. We ended the round with zero flags. I really thought my riddle about the Olms’ Secret Basement in that realm in WynnexD would be hard to find, but OF COURSE someone on the Wynncraft Discord had mentioned it. That one hurt.
Round 2: We did much better this time around. We ended the round with one flag. That riddle was my favorite that I made out of all the event:
Sunrise, sunset, night and day
The changing seasons, the smell of decay
Look at the skin warp, isn’t it strange?
How darkness makes its appearance change?
It led to the Nol Overseer. There was a rule in CTF that you couldn’t have a riddle that led to a place that required multiple people to access, but both Fish and I forgot this. It required a rule change to rectify.
Round 3: We did GREAT! We ended the round with four flags, bumping us to 3rd place!!

Raids: Oh man, raids. I love doing raids, especially Nol - I’ve done it over 80 times. But do you, dear reader, know what happened that prevented me from participating? That’s right, my computer broke before we ever did one. Man, I was so sad about that. I would have loved to help in the raids.

I couldn’t participate in the closing ceremony because I was still in the process of buying a new computer. Oh well, it’ll arrive in a few days.

Conclusion: Wynn Olympics was so much fun!! I loved the events and all the friends I made. Thanks to all the other teams, for being great competition! Thanks to Team Corkus, for all the great times we had and for carrying me through the events! And last, but certainly not least, thanks to WithTheFish, for hosting this incredible event. Fish, we all love you. Team Corkus, I hope to see you all in the next Wynn Olympics, if there is one!

 

I had so much fun during this event and I’m genuinely so glad I participated and met so many new people :D

Scavenger hunt was easily my favorite event, I’m definitely not that good at it but it was so much fun trying to work out where a location was, and finding the locations felt super rewarding. The first round was painful but as the event went on I got a lot more comfortable with it, and I’m happy that I was able to help with the 3rd round. I also instantly recognized one of the pictures during round 6 which felt pretty cool. The cave that we got stuck on during round 6 was pretty upsetting because my first thought when I saw it was, “Oh, that looks like one of the caves near cinfras,” so cinfras was the first place I checked, but I didn’t really trust my gut and didn’t look everywhere so I ended up missing it :(

Capture the flag was also fun, minus a few annoying riddles. I helped solve a few riddles so I feel like I contributed a bit. I always had the riddles in the back of my mind, so it was kind of cool to be going about my daily business and just have a random “AHA!” moment where I’d think of an answer to one of them

I didn’t contribute much during the other events, but they were still a ton of fun (especially capture the fish) and I think my build for the build competition was decent (even if it didn’t get 1st :c)

I genuinely have so much respect for fish for putting up with all of us and hosting the event. If I’m active next year and someone hosts this again I’m 100% participating, and if anyone from corkus is around again I’d love to team up!!
