SPOILER Theory: What Magic Elves Use

This is just a short theory and I want some feedback or just discussion. But we know that different forms of magic exist. One of the factors is elemental magic, it will either be earth, thunder, water, fire or air. These are the basic elements. But as we can see Elves seem to have such a variety of abilities.

Well we learn about the elements in the quest The Order of the Grook, it states that " Water is sort of magical default, If you will. If it isn't focused on on one element or another, magic ends up being water-based". Which could describe why their powers vary so much. Though this could also be explored further.

"It also the element of knowledge, and pure magicality" Let's emphasise the pure magicality, as we know Elves have the most magical potential, or their magicality is the most pure. It also states a lot more about how water is able to help those control the flow of magic and can amplify healing spells.

Though there is the possibility of their being more elements, like some have suggested cosmic and all that. And if we had to choose a new one, I'd say it would relate it light. Though water seems like the logical choice. What do you guys think?

 

Their magic doesn't have to be elemental. I'd just say that it's mostly Light magic.

based off the gardens and such in Aldorei Valley, as well as Dullahan's magic, and overall nature/green theme, I'd say they probably practice druidry or something

though I mean, do we have any evidence that light magic even exists? cause there is the realm of light and all that but are the Elves drawing their source from the Light? Because again it says in the Order of the Grook that they are in touch with they own magicality.

 

dark is an element supposedly so it would probably have its own magic

and light and dark are at the same level of power so light would probably have an element too

 

darkness isn't an element, AJB calling it an element comes from grian not realizing that it'd be a stupid idea to call it one, i asked the CT about it and they just said to ignore the darkness element stuff and treat it as non canon, so no its not an element, but darkness magic does exist i think

 

I think this could be true, as it is nature-y magic and a lot of their spells are less aiming to be offensive but more defensive. We haven't seen elves use their magic to physically harm someone. (Well there may be one time, though I'm unsure if it was the opponent or the elf who did it.) And it is pretty obvious that it isn't shamanism. As in the Realm of Light I, when they were stuck in the mouth of a creature, instead of taking energy from the creature itself or others nearby she tried to use her own energy or gather energy around her.

Though I mean is shamanism it's own element kinda thing, we know it's a type of nature magic but does it still have an element it needs.

She doesn’t. But she still uses it.

 

Well then we can't confirm if it is light magic if it isn't stated anywhere that it is. We don't know if light magic exists or if it's just druidry, water magic and some others.

But also note, that it says in the timeline "Elves have connected with the Realm of Light for quite some time." This means that they weren't originally born with a connection but they made one. So they still have another type of magic they can use. So even if they use light magic they would've obtained it and weren't born with it.

 

if a GM straight up tells you that light magic exists and is used ingame, I think that's enough proof

Okay so I did a bit more research and It does seem they use light magic. But my question is more about what magic elves have inside them. Orphion's light magic was given to the Elves or more like the Elves connected with the light. Like Doguns were born to be able to use fire and earth elemental magic. So what were elves born with? Were elves born with water magic, druidry or are they like humans, dwarves or villagers who don't really have an element?
