The sewers were an absolutely horrible place to be.

Every step I took, my boots would sink into the muck, occasionally sticking to some mud or, well, I didn’t want to think about what else they could be sticking to. Best to not worry about that.

Why a bunch of skeletons would be living in a sewer, I had no idea. They seemed to infest any place they could, which apparently included Ragni’s sewers. Interestingly enough, they almost seemed as disgusted as I was, if their tentative steps were any indication. Although, that might have just been the massive glowing purple spear I was carrying.

And despite their tentativeness, the little things just kept coming. They seemed rather bloodthirsty, or like I was some esteemed rival that they desperately wanted to kill. I could knock them off rather easily, but it was incredibly annoying to have to keep dealing with them.

However, that wasn’t even the worst part. I had to keep being reminded about what transpired here all those years ago. I had shut the memories away, locked them with a mental key and then threw it away. I tried my hardest to avoid coming here, but it was only a matter of time before I had to do this.

My spear plunged through a ghostly spirit, shredding its wispy form and delivering it the second death. A robe-clad mage skeleton launched a fireball at me, but I nimbly sidestepped and charged. My weapon crashed into the undead, shattering its bones and throwing them across the bridge.

I took a deep breath in as I landed, searching for another enemy, but there was none. I had decimated every skeleton, every spirit that roamed these sewers. Now all that was left was to finish the job. I had prolonged this as long as possible, but there was just no escaping fate. I had to face my past.

The double doors awaited me, heavy oak and barred shut. I fished a small iron key from the pockets of my pouch, and held it out. The key slowly began to glow, and started to hover above my hand. I brought my hand down, and the key continued floating, drifting towards the door, despite the fact that there was no obvious keyhole. As soon as the key touched the door, there was a bright flash of light, and both here gone in an instant. Only darkness awaited me, so I plunged into the depths.

    I’ve been watching you, hero.

The rattling voice echoed through the darkness, only a remnant of what it used to be. Despite the fact that I knew who it was, I still couldn’t bear the truth.

I will admit that it is rather impressive how you got through my skeletons, although the massacre was rather uncalled for. But no matter. You will not leave this place alive, and you will make an excellent servant of the darkness.

Like a spotlight, the room I was in suddenly lit up, and I could see the origin of the voice. A black, withered skeleton stood in the middle of the room, hollow eye sockets trained on me, and a twisted grin on her face.

Only I would be someone to know this skeleton was female. After all, my past couldn’t let me forget. Maybe I could try one last time to right this.

“Mother!” I shouted. I had never known her name, but that sense of parentship was buried within me, and I refused to use the name the Raghu citizens had given her. “This is not what you were. You’re not acting like yourself!”

The corruption has made me anew, a glorious servant of the darkness. Come join me, and we will conquer all of Wynn, Robert.

That name stung my very heart. My very own mother transformed into this beast... I had to try one more time.

“Please, mother. I don’t want to hurt you. This isn’t you.”

You ally yourself with forces that are bound to be defeated. If you will not join me then I will ravage your very soul from your body!

With that, she raised her bow and began to fire. First one arrow, then two, then a storm thick enough to blot out the sun. I dodged them all, but raised no counterattacks. I knew I could easily defeat her, but I just couldn’t come to harm her.

But just as much as I didn’t want to hurt her, she seemed bent on hurting me. More arrows than should have been possible flew from her bow, and she spoke nothing.

It took many minutes before my common sense took over. I couldn’t do this forever. I had to kill her, and there was nothing else I could do. So, with tears welling in my eyes, I ran forward, and plunged my spear forwards, piercing through her bones, shattering and showering around the arena.

Then, I just let it out. I knelt on the ground, and let my emotions flow. Everything hurt, so much. I would sit here in vigil as long as I had to, but I had to let this go. Then, maybe, I might be free.

Now I know this isn’t the actual lore, but I felt that I had to write something about this. Personally, I think it came out pretty well. Tysm for reading.

    Nice!
This could be in the Legend of Bob just by adding some background and changing the POV. - If you allowed me to.
