Top 5 Reasons Why Second Wind Sucks

Now now, this is just my opinion. If you think the leggings are actually good then that's alright. I don't want to start a flame war over this.

5. The walkspeed isn't as important as you think.

The intended playstyle for these leggings is most of the time tierstack. Tierstack items already give a lot of walkspeed, so getting even more is pointless. Even leggings with negative walkspeed won't make that much of a difference. The "main" appeal of these leggings is that they're tank leggings that give positive walkspeed, but just look at Gemini.

4. The stats itself.

These leggings are intended for either tierstack or to just be a slap of hitpoints. With negative lifesteal and negative health regen they are a bad option for both, because going for more defense/agility is way better than more HP on all classes except for mage, but melee mage isn't used much.

3. So many better alternatives.

This ties to every other point, I can't find a single situation where the HP slap is superior to the clearly better Gemini, Greaves of the Veneer, Lion's Pelt, Ornate Shadow Cover, Heat Sink. If you're going tank it's better to build for either more damage or defense/agility than a health pool that makes you burn health pots, as i've said in point 4.

2. The fact that the leggings are low level is not a good excuse.

It's a terrible excuse for it to be bad, Pure is even lower level and that's a decent item. Pure is a mythic, yes, but it's still magnitudes better. I have to mention that the negative lifesteal and thunder defense are even more devastating at low level.

1. The -300 thunder defense, and the other elemental defenses are preety much nothing.

This is by far the thing that turns these things from just mediocre to outright a downgrade compared to wearing no leggings at all! If you think I am exaggerating, the Eye does thunder damage, and because of it's 800% spell multiplier, it makes meteors deal 2400 more damage. That's basically double or even quadruple depending on how good your defense is. Not to mention it's even worse against Orphion.

 

- second wind has a LOT of hp given the fact that is has a tier
- walkspeed is incredibly important for melee builds, especially warrior/assassin which need to be close to deal damage
- it has a tier, which gemini, gotv, ornate do not. it's reqs also fit quite naturally into tanky tstack
- second wind builds are often TFA, where the other items in the build make up for the -thunder def, so while it is a downside it really isn't that bad
- gemini, greaves of the veneer, lion's pelt, ornate, and heat sink all have completely different use cases. i would estimate that the vast majority of second wind builds are tierstack builds, where the tier it gives matters quite a bit.
- the -life steal is certainly a downside, but it is often worked around by using old keepers ring (or jingling jester for cool points) to get greed (perhaps with centipede), so hp sustain is not a unfixable issue.

 

Name a tierstack leggings that is tankier than second wind. Physalis? Nope. Horizon? Also nope. Leictreach? Gimme a break. Second wind has a HUGE hp bonus, along with 20 agility, which is ridiculous. This along with the fact that it basically synergizes perfectly with nether’s scar (and gaping cavity too) makes it a perfect choice for tierstack builds. Saying that things like ornate shadow can substitute for second wind is like saying that virtuoso is a better boot option than magnet repulsor on a spell steal build because it gives more damage.

I've personally used second wind in a build with negative life steal and my 200 health regen counteracted the negative it gave (though I did have less -ls since I had double flashfire ring, and it was perfect -ls)

 

pretty hot take tbh I love using second wind personally, its fit perfectly in all of the tanky tstack builds I've used and probably saved my ass a few times since im bad at the game. -300 thunder def is annoying but its not that bad.

Second wind is extremely important for warring because it's always they pants that people choose for heal builds and how are you gonna take out the vhighs if you don't have a healer.
