    Recently, Mojang announced that they would be splitting the 1.17 Caves and Cliffs update into 2 parts. This is because they need more time to work on the new generation, and they want to release it in the next few weeks. Hell, for all we know, we can expect a release candidate soon!

    Honestly, I don't get why they couldn't just say ''sorry guys we underestimated the amount of effort we would need to make new generation, we're delaying it to winter'' but it's also good in a way.

    I was afraid that 1.17 might not be supportable on Wynn cause the height limit stuff might fuck up the map, but now we can rest assured that at least we can get all the major features of the update and we can just pretend the height limit stuff doesn't exist

    Here's everything Wynn will be able to get from the update:
    Sculk (buggy)
    Bundles (buggy)
    candles (buggy but i bet grian will still insist that the builders use them a lot)
    Goats
    Screaming goat SFX
    New blocks (deepslate, copper, moss etc)
    Copper (to replace the bricks used for current copper ingame, and copper ore can be used there too)
    Glow squids
    Axolotls
    Powdered snow
    Spyglass
    Access to shaders (after my thread on the shader thing i doubt the ct will add this, but i know there will be some fanmade wynn shaders)
    Glow Lichen
    Light blocks

    Here's stuff we unfortunately won't get (unless 1.17 part 2 is supportable, which I really hope it is)
    Wardens
    Warden AI
    Sculk blocks
    Completed Sculk, bundles and candles
    Archaeology block states for sloped terrain ( Archaeology has literally been deleted from Caves and Cliffs altogether and is now planned for 1.18/1.19 (depending on how Mojang brands caves and cliffs part 1 and 2) and beyond, which really sucks because I was looking forward to that feature)


    I just want to state that, as of now, I have very minimal knowledge on minecraft programming + commands, I don't know if 1.17 part 2 will fuck up the map or not. Hopefully it doesn't, because I want to see all future versions of minecraft be supported by Wynn. However, it's also possible that 1.17 will be like the next 1.13 where it fucks up servers as a whole

    I doubt part 2 will mess much up, it’s made specifically not to affect older worlds

    I mean the biggest reason to not update Wynncraft is the amount of work to update plugins and texture pack to 1.17 would likely mean no updates at all for a decent period of time. My guess this would be around 6 months to a year depending on the number of plugins. Though there is also a chance none of the plugins can be updated to 1.17.

    how many times must i reiterate in these threads that this means support for 1.17 clients, not for the entire server to become 1.17
    True, but all clients above 1.17 would probably have the Mojang copper texture, otherwise there would be questions about why not

    Yeah, I know you mean updating to support. Even then I was referring to plugins that allow many versions of Minecraft to be used. I imagine it will eventually be supported after a couple of weeks to couple of months after release though or longer.

    It didn't take too long for the developers to add 1.16 support, though. Sure, that doesn't mean it will 100% be easy for them this time, but it doesn't seem like it'd be TOO hard to do.

    Well, I am definitely hoping for it to be fast, and without bugs for them developers.

    Aren't these in Part 2? Or do you mean that they would use the datapack?
    This might not be possible as the server is on 1.8 - but I might just be wrong about that

    realistically we already have a good portion of those blocks already lol, we can't even use newer blocks from like 1.12 anyway so I doubt we'll be able to use these

    Wynncraft cant update their content that appears in all clients (mainly entities and items) from 1.12 because of how Mojang basically ditched optimising the game/not added multithreading and made 1.13+ servers buggy beyond relief. Its getting better but still not close to 1.12 iirc


    When playing in newer versions, Wynncraft mainly has new blocks or sounds because they can only appear for the specific player. Newer entities or items (when as playing wynn on 1.9/1.10) can crash the game when you see the object that doesnt exist in that version (When only 1.9+ was rolled out, seeing parrots in the dernel jungle crashed my game)

    Ok, so previously I keep on talking about updating plugins, updating command blocks, etc.

    Now though, I'm fairly certain I've gotten some things wrong. There's some things that the server does that doesn't seem possible with spigot, like their packet translator handling future blocks in a way that doesn't eat up all of the resources, ghost blocks that don't disappear when interacted with, being able to walk through ghost air blocks, which usually causes rubberbanding but works fine here. It's always possible that 1.8 is different than what I am used to, but that would still mean that they can't update. Also the guild map uses a feature that I never knew was possible to use in 1.8 servers.

    Basically what I have realised, is that it's quite possible that wynncraft has it's own fork of either bukkit, spigot or vanilla (likely the former), kind of like what hypixel has done. The things I have listed don't seem possible without modifying the code directly. I'm just guessing here though, so I may be wrong. But if this is correct, then an actual update would be impossible.

    But, there are some shortcuts they could make. Since they can modify the game in any way they want as long as it doesn't need clientside stuff, then they could add the new 1.17 blocks, and increase the height limit to whatever they want using a fake datapack, while still using 1.8 command syntax on the CMD's work.

    I hear 1.15 and 1.16 are pretty stable since 2b2t seems like it's gonna update to 1.16 soon
    Would take a ton of time for Wynn to update though, literally to the point of not being worth it

    There's a ton of times where blocks disappear and player's can walk through it. Are these done by setting them to air on the clientside and ignoring the fact that the player is no clipping on the serverside, or are these things air blocks on the serverside and displayed as blocks on the clientside (which would work too, although you would have the problem of blocks disappearing on right click, which doesn't happen)

    i dont think ghost blocks are ever an issue in wynn, but i think its air blocks serverside and not air clientside
