I posted a similar thread going more in-depth into the punishment side of things and used real cases and personal experience to back it. While the post goes on a bit of a tangent and definitely isn't as neat and tidy as yours, I believe it is a very unique perspective considering I have been and am still banned. this is the thread, it has been locked though because I guess I'm not supposed to openly critique the mod team as a banned player.

    https://forums.wynncraft.com/threads/is-wynncraft-punishment-too-harsh.288737/

In regards to your comments about alternate punishments for bans, I absolutely agree. As someone who was banned for duping I would like to say that I find that a full wipe, while more extreme than an appealable perm ban with a massive wait, more directly addresses the issue of duping than banning someone and then leaving then banned for over a year even after an accepted appeal.

This is very true. I also address most of these issues in my thread. One thing I did fail to address is the fact that there was an instance that the mod that banned two of my guild members for the CUC skip without a warning actually didn't ban another one of my guild members who was there and only gave them a warning. Guess what was interesting: the one who wasn't banned had HERO rank and had never interacted with this mod, while the other two only had VIP and had interacted (negatively) with this mod. That's a bias.

Later, the remaining members of my guild got very worried because we thought we were being targeted. Two of us were banned for very real reasons, one of those two is me, but other members of the guild were banned for the most blatantly insufficient reasons. While I was not banned on wynn and was yet to dupe once, I was genuinely worried to the point that I said to a party member at the Undergrowth Ruins dungeon after I got dirt screened from a server restart something along the lines of

"LOL! I thought I got banned. There is this one mod who is banning everyone in my guild. If I get banned to be surprised, I won't be at least."

Everyone who was banned in my guild was banned by the same person.

I feel like the "Hypixle just wants your money argument" is a little misplaced considering you are defending wynn. First off, I don't think Wynn is pay to win. Now that's out of the way; Wynn has a 170$ rank with more in-game perks than any rank on hypixel, the champion rank extra slots on servers were not an addition to the player cap that was reserved for champions, they were slots taken from the non-champs and reserved for champs, bombs, which are comparable to hypixle boosters, have more effect on the gameplay than hypixel boosters, and while some cosmetics are reserved to supporters in hypixel, almost all wynn cosmetics are reserved to supporters with the exception of the *Once a month, lowest value chest*.

This is not a viable defense of wynns extremely harsh bans.

I think most people agree with your thoughts on how the moderation team should function, including myself, however, it is not necessarily reality. Appealing is very complicated, and in the case of abuse of any glitch, you don't get unbanned until the glitch is patched. If you look into my thread on this matter I expand on the issues with this appeal system. When I appealed my ban no one responded to me for a whole week, in which case the mod that banned me, which is supposed to be the person to review your appeal (wow, that complicates the issues of mod bias) redirected me to another mod. That's not a great system.

Furthermore, the case-by-case review is the ideal system, I agree, but that's not what wynn does. Of the several cases of bans that I have a sturdy understanding of, they were all warning-les/insufficient-warning perm bans. The offenses included duping, a bug in CUC where you could skip a small phase, and subjective toxicity. How on earth do all of the offenses on that list deserve the same punishment?? That is not case-by-case, that is a failed attempt at automation when it comes to deciding punishment.

As a currently banned person, a do see some truth in your final sentence. However, I feel like a perm ban in all cases with an almost meaningless ban appeal is a bit too harsh. For some very rare people, this may be what they need to reform, but for me, it was almost instant. I made a mental note less than a week after I was banned (during my appeal waiting time), that I would not risk being banned again because I did not want to face harsher punishment.

Lol, well yeah, it's bound to happen.

Just for clarification for everyone reading this: necroposting is when you revive a dead thread that is no longer relevant. While this is definitely dead, it is still very relevant, so it's kinda not necroposting. I know I'm gonna get trashed on anyways tho...

Before I begin, I would like to apologise for the closing and opening of the thread. I did not want this thread to be closed after it was brought to attention to me.
The thread has been around for a while, there has been a bunch more where some statements are given. I apologise for not responding to this thread, and Id like to address some misconceptions but also details of what we do.
    About punishments:

I dont see how a punishment is vague, its either a tban, ban, warn or verbal warning. I believe you mean the transparency when a punishment is given. We do actually have a 2 punishment rule, which should not be a surprise to most people that have stuck around for a while. However that first punishment obviously is not a "Get out of jail free" card, otherwise thatd encourage people to actually break the rules.
You are correct, an unban is never guaranteed, but for the majority it depends on honesty and cooperation. Ill be blunt: I do not take duping kindly however, these bans are dealt with an internal standard that is strictly followed. Obviously revealing that standard will only encourage people to dupe to that extent.

As many have already implied, Hypixels moderation team, as well as banning system is nowhere close to Wynncrafts team. And I for once do state my opinion that I disagree with this "gold standard" of yours.
About how bans are applied, keep in mind Hypixel has logistically a harder time to look into cases compared to Wynn. So your idea of a banning system is tailored for aformentioned logistics, but not (in my opinion) to Wynncraft.

Regarding exploits and glitch abuses, as much as it pains us to watch them staying banned, but we cannot set anyone free until the bug or the exploit is fixed. When it will be fixed is completely out of our power, apart from immediately letting the developers know. Trust me, I hate watching my appeals queue grow, Id like to have stuff sorted out asap. About a change in how it is dealt with, this is hardly in my jurisdiction.

    About deflection:

Your arguments are purely your assumptions. You call your argumentation a disprove because on another server with different tools and moderation tools it is feasable to do whatever you had in mind. Your argument is a "Non sequitur"-fallacy. If your argument of improval is having the resources, then Id like to mention that we moderators do not develop our own tools, we are not developers. This has been mentioned in here by a couple of people.

    About Hotfixes & Bugfixes:

I wont go intoo detail. We mods dont fix anything that is considered a bug. Its neither our task nor can we actually do that. Our task is the execution of rules, and for a rarer case the legislative branch (under supervision of the administration).

    About your conclusion:

Despite your arguments being somewhat... not really what your conclusion draws, I agree with you here. And this point is important to me:
I hardly ever get contacted directly about this. For both Naraka (other manager) it is not easy to multitask so many things. If you have any critique regarding the mods team, tell us over Discord for example. Like tell me "Yo me and a few guys have some stuff we're really not happy about the mod team". Ever since I was mod manager I only ever gotten 3 of these messages, 1 of which we resolved in favour of the community, 1 which is on-going regarding loans and 1 I had to decline due to that person being out for revenge rather to better the team or the community. I had discussions with community members before, and yes, we do want to hear complains, give explanations, improve the team but also Wynncraft in general. So please actually contact me about it.
Since the author hopped off fairly quickly, Id like to go through a few messages. I do not know if they still care, or if they much rather just complain, but Ill take the opportunity in case they do actually care.

I have seen you complain countless times, yet you never contacted me (at least to my knowledge). You throw a lot of "examples" but you dont back them up. I dont know if this is whether you want to keep it simple or if you just like to complain. If you would like to talk about it (and have multiple people that sympathise with you) please actually contact me.

I completely agree with the softlock. As much as it pains me seeing people softlocked by something, tping out is the only thing we can do, and even that has risks, like bricking quests.

I am not sure why you believe we punish arbitrarly, we do have a standard for very simple cases and very extreme cases. The cases between have a weak standard, because they have to be dealt with case by case.
Regarding the claim of the management issue, this is partially true, and it is actively being worked on (started around 1.5 months ago). We have lost many seasoned moderators (twice actually) and had to refresh with new mods. Not that this is an excuse as to why we can do this, but rather so you understand what position we are in and what we are working on (internally).
Regarding punishment guidelines, that is simple enough for extreme and weak rule breaks, but not for cases in between. Jake has actually enforced more transparency with the post on the rules, which is a step towards achieving transparency at least.
About the CUC glitch, I strangely have not much information, I was rather absent at this time. I will take the blame for that.
If you still care, would you mind elaborating on the punishment guidelines part?

Similar to RenZenthio, I 100% agree. Being stuck because youre softlocked is horrible. But then again, this is not a ban, not our department.
I cannot speak for the developers, they have their own priorities, justifications, set of rules, etc. They may have difficulties Im not even aware of.

These post summarises it well, do you mind DMing me? Id like to look into that as a possibility.

    -----

I apologise if I have not quoted everyone on this matter, I feel like I have answered their stuff in someone elses quote.
I want to end with two difficulties I encounter while in management:

    - Most things do not reach me. I barely have time to be in-game since Im busy otherwise (IRL and Management). The mods best efforts are mentioning me and Naraka as people to contact to look into matters that are beyond a single moderator (unless it is a report on a moderator, and yes power abusive mods exist, report them to me immediately). But like I said, I get messaged so rarely. The forums really only work to rally up people. I very much welcome making a Discord group for example to look into it with community members, but for that, contact me.
    - We get flamed on multiple things, I want to show two examples:
--> Things completely out of our control. This ones very demoralising, we want to help with the resolve, but we cannot accelerate it.
--> Unbanned people telling the truth in appeals, but then going around lying about being false banned, making us look worse. They abuse the fact we want to keep peoples bans private. This is the absolute worst, and I witnessed it myself multiple times the past 6 months.

    -----

Id like to close the thread, not because it is a necropost (I see this relevant still) but rather to urge the people that care to work with me and the team. The forums is not a good place to do so.
