Guide Limits Of Shaman Totems And Xp Gains.

Some time ago, Crokee asked what is the range of possible xp gain and possible use of shamans totem for it.
Well, and I decided to test it. I asked @ditsario to assist me to check things and keep the totem loaded.

What we tested:
- range of Uproot
- range of Haul
- range of Totem damage
- range of XP gain from killed mobs

How we tested it:
1)
I placed totem at the entrance to Bob's Tomb (250 -760) and went to fight Bob's Reincarnation (at cca 8000 8000) while casting Uproot every 5 second.
I confirmed that I could cast Haul and Uproot and Ditsario reported that the totem was able to to kill several mobs.

2)
We went to Witness Church and placed totem right at the entrance and going back to fight Bob's Reincarnation, while Ditsario stayed. As I was travelling Wynntils signalised xp gain which could be expected from se grind mob. Later (whe I reached the bossfight) I again noticed xp gain, with Ditsario reporting a kill.


This confirms that:
- Totem has unlimited range
- Haul has unlimited range
- Uproot has unlimited range
- XP has no range

I wonder if you could AFK XP grind now.. Supposing one placed their Totem in a grind spot, travelled to a secure AFK location, and then used an auto clicker to repeatedly cast Uproot, I wonder how many levels you could gain from an overnight session!

 

Of course you could. Except:
1) Autoclicker is not allowed
2) AFK farming is not allowed
3) Servers would restart before that
4) Lag and other things could mess it up

 

Let a toxo shaman lockdown a grind spot while he’s chilling in detlas

Well, why not? If it works from 8k blocks away Bob's tomb, Detlas would be fine, right? (If your boots have no required sp, you can also use galloping spurs to get to Detlas really easily while still casting uproot.)

 

This seems like both extremely useful and extremely useless information

 

this actually was used a lot in 1.19, super helpful as a hunting tactic to just place a totem somewhere (glowbulb for example) with toxo and then go to like the other side of SE just spamming uproot and charging courage over and over. you're in complete safety but no one can enter your totem regardless or they die instantly

also this was used for ToA grinding as you could simply place your totem in ToA, leave an alt in there with a tanky build and very high hpr (to keep mobs spawned), go back to lusuco while uprooting and just swap out builds for a really powerful 1 dura lq/lb build that was more effective than standard lq gear

lastly you could use it for grinding guild xp in the void valley territory for 3x xp but that one was a lot harder to pull off as the damage from just totem ticks is awful and toxo doesn't make it enough to give you more xp than just grinding glowbulb in the cave, even without the 3x territory bonus

 

As soon as I saw the first couple comments on this thread I was reminded of some video that was calling out a Moderator for abusing this exact mechanic. The clip in the video showed the moderator (who I think has been banned since) casting uproot over and over again in Lusuco.

 

when I was leveling my toxo shaman I just placed my totem in the middle of a glowbulb cave party and went to lutho. I was watching netflix while uprooting every 10 seconds. So yes it 100% works(you just wont get the party xp). also even when chunks get unloaded your totem remains. It just gets turned invisible or something. So even when the party did /class to despawn ghost mobs my totem didn't despawn. Also I have used the totem range for hunting. In the voidstone mining spot in the void you can jump down to get instantly sent to the island with the crane. That was the the main way for proffers to escape when they spotted me. So I would place my totem on the crane island and walk all the way to the voidstone mining spot. Then I would attack them like I normally do exept that if they got away they would still probably die the moment they jumped down because they would teleport into my totem.

 

So technically as long as
-You have no auto clicker
-And you aren’t afk
This is allowed? Cos if so I’m levelling a shaman

well I dont think its afk farming if you are not afk
its just farming at a distance

 

Well, they might consider it as being afk since you are just standing there and casting uproot and probably not really focusing on the game

 

Afk is defined as no user input, which wouldn't be the case. However, not everything that's not explicitly banned is allowed, especially if people have been banned for it.
