Guide What Update Patches Broke The Game The Most In Your Opinion?

i haven’t played on this server for long, but I’ve heard that this game has had a history of exploits and glitches that often times broke the entire server or made certain classes (usually the Assassin) absolutely broken.

So, in your experience, which update broke the server the most balance-wise?

(My personal pick would be the February 2021 patch to 1.20 where they buffed Strength and dexterity. I literally saw a video where a heavy melee Assassin exploited this buff and did 5 million damage with 1 spin attack. And apparently some Cata Assassin build’s dps passes 10 million. Absolutely broken)

 

Either the same patch, but because it added a way to crash the server/game that is now patched. Or I want to say 1.20 / 1.20 hotfix #1 (I believe), that had a glitch to where whole servers would crash.

 

Not really an exploit or glitch but Assassin pre gavel was insanely op it was ridiculous. Pre gavel mana steal with multi hit and basically having unlimited vanish was just too good. I remember you can fight death from TOA, which was the hardest boss at the time, without getting hit basically.

 

It's honestly so hard to say. If you mean from a "game doesn't work at all" perspective, Gavel is probably my first pick, and that's not even counting the... bizarre server issues in the weeks leading up to it.

From a unbalanced gameplay perspective, 1.0 definitely deserves mention because with it came pre-Gavel assassin. Gavel once again deserves a place, with so many powerful (read broken) metas, due to the new item system prone to abuses, and of course mythics. 1.19 definitely had some screwy behaviours with stuff like vanish's damage boost. 1.20.1 honestly seems like a footnote compared to a lot of the stuff from the OG exploits, purely because of the limited application.

If I remember correctly, there was a patch where any teleport commands applied to the world not just the player. Alas I never got to experience the chaos

The myth says that in the magical era of hotfix #6 with the terribly implemented strengh/dexterity changes you could one shot every part of tcc and the eye with an anvil crawler and give bosses millions uppon millions of health with a single King of Hearts (negative dmg used to heal mobs), the changes were so good it even made our fav fishe quit (rip withthefish)

 

Lol, no, the Gavel update wins the "unbalanced perspective" hands down aswell.

I think people forgot what the Gavel update was like.
Life steal worked on spells,
Raw spell damage was ran through spell damage %,
Attack speed affected spell damage,
Negative posion was broken.

That's not even scratching the surface, so much was broken after gavel.

 

I dunno that Gavel wins hands down. Remember that before Gavel, lifesteal and mana steal triggered on every hit of spells, and were a lot more powerful, and assassin's multihit did several times the spell damage multiplier of meteor, with much higher base damage too.

That said, Gavel also was responsible for a lot of stuff like the current state of the market and at least partly for the massive inequality of wealth we have now, in addition to such gems as you mentioned, as well as stuff like the old cactus and rainbow tank that effectively killed pvp. Man, now I have nostalgia for the abuses of old.

 

Seems like Gavel was on net probably more balanced than immediate pre-Gavel, but a far cry from modern standards.
