I know, I made this post for people to explain what they thought about the new updates, and why they thought this. Thank you for being the first to do this XD

I'd say 1.18, 1.19 and 1.20 are all relatively successful in what they were trying to do. 1.18 did improve the economical situation for a little bit, 1.19 gave us a relatively satisfying lore based region, and 1.20 improved Gavel massively. The only thing I would point out is 1.20 is much messier than it's predecessors and I feel like some revamped areas were a bit of a swing and a miss. The actual realm of light for example, I feel like builds and story are a little odd, maybe a little incoherent in very specific sections. Despite this though, the updates have been executed pretty well!

It was a while ago but I remember 1.19's launch being terrible, almost every quest was broken, servers were super laggy and people were getting their mythics deleted randomly when they logged in, hell, there was a hardlock on AJB during Alder cart which only got fixed in 1.20. 1.19 was also over hyped and under delivered, not nearly as bad as 1.20 was but still kind of bad.

As for 1.18, it's only lasting problem was that it was unpolished. It only got a month long beta so there was a lot of roughness around the edges but after patch 1.18.2 dropped 1.18 was actually a great update, I think people really overlook a lot of the changes made with this one, mostly the new (and slightly better) CSST, CIB, FF got partially remade into the best dungeon in the game, Detlas was completely remade into the best town, crafting really did change the game in a big way and the money made off of profession bombs is probably what's keeping the server alive. 1.18 really doesn't deserve the hate it gets, it really shouldn't be grouped up with 1.19 and 1.20.

Finally getting to the point, 1.20 added some stuff, but people don't like it because it's probably one of the worst updates overall in Wynncraft history. That might sound like a bit of a stretch, but at least for every other major update it's clear what it did to improve the game. 1.16 was Corkus which basically changed how builds were made forever, 1.17 was just a blanket improvement to the game in every way possible, the bank, guilds, so many bugs were fixed, it was about discoveries, but really the update was about making the game better, it also only took 8 months and brought so much with it. I could go on and on for each version except for 1.20, housing and raids are really the only main additions and neither of them really do anything to shake up how the game is played, they're both just kind of there. Raids are kind of cool, but really they're just boring and confusing dungeons and while I'm a huge fan of housing, there are so many features missing to the point where they don't actually do anything, I can't be bothered to grind out resources to make something cool when I get nothing for doing so, I would rather just play on my own world.

1.20's biggest wasn't that though, it was the over hypeing and the complete lack of payoff. We were told pets were getting updated, that was basically a lie unless you payed $160, we were told Gavel was being remade from the ground up, which was mostly true but you can barely tell the difference, tomes were added, they're the worst addition to the game in it's 8 year life for a lot of reasons, raids were added but they're just bad dungeons with buffs, half the trailer was spend showing off the ROL raid which still isn't in the game, guilds were made worse. The worst part of it all is that 1.20 was supposed to fix all the mistakes of the original Gavel update and it somehow managed to make the exact same mistakes all over again. 1.20 wasn't that bad, but it was just so underwhelming.

Lmao there is just so much wrong with this.

I agree with housing though I have a forum on that (self promoting :D) https://forums.wynncraft.com/threads/the-problem-with-1-20s-housing-and-some-ideas-to-fix-it.285810/

Wasn't 1.20's goal to fix the Realm of Light and Decay so we could have a structure to build the plot further on from? And even without that, they fixed the range they were going for.

Also saying "you can barely tell the difference in Gavel hehehehe" isn't a real answer... can you give me more examples? I'm having such a better time advancing in my new account then I did in old Gavel I want proof.

I understand the pets, but I wasn't that hyped about pets either. At least they aren't like Hypixel's, and they barely mentioned it, which in your opinion, overhyping was the main problem was 1.20.

Raids are good dungeons tell me why they're bad, they properly make collaboration work and are genuinely more fun, especially when you play with people you actually know and not random people you find on discord (which I was forced to do). They added three dungeons, but with better graphics and harder code. How can you say they were overhyping that? When have they last added three dungeons?

I want you to watch this very quickly. The RoL raid is actually two seconds of the trailer, and it never even says it was the RoL raid. Edit: It was one second I actually checked this time :D

No one likes champion that much but stop acting like Wynncraft is now abruptly p2w. Have you ever heard of Mob Totems?

Stop talking about ROL raid not being in game yet did you forget the three dungeon part?

How were guilds made worse? Again, this is one of those things which are like "I'm going to say words hehehhehe" comments.

The problems with the original Gavel update were hyping up features that didn't exist and never will, and taking far past it's time.

If you're going to give me notifications, at least don't make up facts and not tell any when you try to make statements. Make actual feedback, maybe by looking at my forum above (self-promotion). Thank you! :D

Sidenote: I kind of want to see what you think the best update was and why. And if you don't like Wynncraft's features as much as you are saying, why are you still playing?

No? It was to completely rewamp Gavel

Grootslang: super long (and imo quote boring) boss, terrible level/player req.,
TCC: Die almost immediately with decent archer buid, bug 3 times (out of 3 total runs) in a row so I can just afk at the bosss

It's called Gavel Reborn, not ROL and Decay Reborn. There's a list of the areas in Gavel which were updated, it's very short. The biggest changes made were to the dark forest and Olux, neither of which were changed beyond superficial changes to how the trees were placed and the mobs. Almost no towns in Gavel were changed except for Cinfras, which was extremely controversial, Buice and Thanos which most people like. Any changes made to the end game areas of Gavel were extremely minor and only really done to fit in the secret discoveries. Gavel got remade in 1.18 already, my main point was that Gavel didn't need to get remade again, there was nothing wrong with it, blocks changed in a few places and that's about it.

It's great that you weren't hyped about pets, but that doesn't change the fact that what they wrote about pets was misleading at best. I was really clear that I thought 1.20 was over hyped by the Wynn team and that was one example of many I used to support that point and the only time I brought up pets because I'm well aware that they're not worth mentioning otherwise. I'm going to assume you were thinking about this when you assumed I had a problem with champion, but I want to remind you I didn't say anything about P2W, you're clearly just projecting. I have no issue with paying money for features in an otherwise free game and I bought champion to support the server.

As for the raid not being there, people have been waiting close to 5 years for that raid, teasing it with the thumbnail , the teaser site being almost entirely pictures of the raid and it being the first picture we saw of raids was that was irresponsible. There was also a complete lack of transparency until less then a week before launch to try and keep the hype. I think it's fair to point out that the update launched in an incomplete state and that they intentionally tried to mislead the community.

Going on with raids, I never said they were bad, I said they were bad dungeons because they lack the fundamental mechanics which make dungeons good and that they were boring and confusing. If you want to know why I think raids are boring, there's two big reasons; a lack of communication and bad rewards. When you enter a room in a raid the instructions flash on screen for a few seconds but trying to read them while being attacked is a complete pain in the ass. The worst example of it is the Grootslang boss which is just mind mindbogglingly bad, there's almost no communication on what you should be doing or why you constantly get blindness. Tomes are also a terrible reward, if you want a full breakdown on that you can read my review of 1.20 but basically they're uninspired, they're almost always useless and the only way to get good tomes is luck which makes grinding for them a test of patience rather then a test of skill.

For guilds, I think you should take take a stroll on over to the guild discussion section of the forums to see some specific examples, but the gist of it is that as a guild you need to be on 24/7 to hold territories, they have almost no use anymore, guild XP was really messed with, guilds can lose almost everything after losing their HQ and player slots were cut massively effectively forcing guilds to kick members. I'm sure I missed some details there but guilds aren't exactly in the best place right now, somebody did a poll on the hero beta forum and something like 80% of people said that they shouldn't launch the new guild changes.

But all that aside, you clearly missed the entire point of my post. I never said 1.20 was a bad update, I said it was the worst update in Wynncraft's history, that isn't a comment on the quality of 1.20, it's a comment on the quality of it relative to the other updates. When my main argument is that I don't think it brought anything impactful to the game.

Just saw your edit, it depends on what metric you're using, for QOL 1.17 is best with 1.18 being a close second, for content 1.16 and 1.18 were both really good, I'm a fan of Corkus myself but I think the molten heights stuff was really good too and for builds 1.18 was easily the best, the entire world was basically remade from scratch and brought up to the modern standard. If I had to pick 1, I think it would be either 1.16 for the base release or 1.18 if you include the patches but I'm willing to take arguments for anything between 1.16 and 1.18 for best post Wynnter update, before that I think the conversation gets a bit dicey.

I haven't done TCC yet, but Grootslang takes like 15 minutes? You sure you played the same raid?

Also, just because the name says "Gavel Reborn" doesn't mean it's supposed to revamp all of Gavel. Just the core aspects, which I stated. They said they would revamp levels 40-75, started primarily around 50ish, which they did.

They said they would only go up to level 70, and they went above that. Research, come on. Also, who said they needed to redo that many towns, that's the least painful part of 1.20. Also, they completely redid the dark forest, swamp, and Kander forest. How much did they even add in Silent Expanse? Not as much I could bet.

You said "unless you pay 160 dollars". I think that counts on you talking about p2w right there, or at least that's what I picked up.

I can understand the Grootslang raid so maybe that's just a problem with others idk. Also, the tomes are perminate buffs. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be creative in themselves.

I'm not sure about guilds, but trying to make one before 1.20, I can't see how they could get any worse... I'm looking at this from a small guild, not a large one, so I'm not sure if anything changes there, but I like how much the guild territories are changing already.

Yay you're not one of those people :D! I think the lore is what is supposed to be presented here. Not the creation of it, but the fact they actually executed it. Also, I find it that you like 1.18, because I've seen a lot of people getting mad about it for some reason (I'm not sure why I wasn't in Wynncraft back then). My favorite update was hotfix number 6 :D

Huh. I can see why people are annoyed at bugs and all- but I really enjoyed/am enjoying 1.20!!

All the new discoveries and build revamps are SO PRETTY and fun to explore!!! I spent hours exploring throughout Gavel and finding secrets and having fun! And there's still much more for me to try out!!! I'm enjoying (slowly =P) building my house and convincing my friends to level up for raids! I've already tried some raids on the Hero Beta and had a lot of fun! (Even though I died a lot on TCC- my build is not strong.)

I normally only lurk on the forms- but felt the need to be contrary to all the criticism. Welp, back to lurking!

No idea why you used spoilers, it didn't save any space and just makes harder to read.

Besides that, I don't really care if they said they were only redoing low level areas when the changes they made were mostly minor cosmetic changes anyways. 1.18 already fixed Gavel, we didn't need an entire update to go back and fix a few areas which weren't issues in the first place. I mentioned the cost not because it's pay to win but because it's a promised feature that was locked behind a paywall. I didn't comment on how useful or useless the features were, I just mentioned that they were locked to almost every player making it essentially a useless feature.

Next, I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but all the raids are the same as Grootslang. They mix up the buffs and a couple of the rooms but most of the ideas are carried over, there's only a couple truly unique rooms per raid. Also, tomes being permanent buffs is no reason to not be creative, you could say that dungeon weapons are just weapons too yet somehow dungeon weapons managed to have thematic names and effects. Tomes could have been raid buffs you can take out of raids with three tiers each, they could have had major IDs or changed how classes fundamentally worked, tomes could have come from multiple different sources, there could be multiple tomes per slot, but no, they didn't do any of that. Instead, they figured having a single tome type per slot with no thematic connection to the raid they come from and no control over what tome you get would be much more interesting. The issue with tomes isn't that they're flat buffs, it's that there's like 10 slots for tomes so you never need to actually consider what tomes you're putting in each slot and that tomes have absolutely no thematic connection to what they're from.

For guilds, again, check the forums for the discussion on that, it's fine that you think they're better, but what was once a fairly simple and straight forward system has turned into an overworked and overdeveloped system which punishes players in unpredictable ways. The old system was simple in mechanics but complex in strategy, the new system is complex in mechanics and strategy is basically nonexistent.

Finally, you shouldn't be so defensive about 1.20 in a thread you made asking people why they don't like it. You can't ask for reasons why people don't like something you're a fan of and expect people to agree with you perspective. It's fine that you like 1.20, but don't go asking for peoples negative opinions and then try to argue with them as if they were facts. If you want an actual perspectives on the update, look for peoples reviews, don't just ask for an explanation of why people don't like it and act surprised when people tell you the problems it has.

I feel the same, but I'm even more slow because I've only been able to get to level 58 :/
    ________________________________
First off, I wasn't annoyed you were replying negatively, but because you gave no feedback. I made this forum to help understand, so having to read through a lot of "Raids are worse dungeons"/"Totems are the worst features". I'm hoping your understand that, and thank you for clarifying more on that :D

Secondly, I don't want to admit it, but I kind of like tomes because they just help me through the grind so... :/

Third (these aren't in order lol), I think that Gavel still needed a lot of help, because I quit three times due to lack of enjoyment going through it, and when I didn't, I thought a lot of the lore was messy, unfocused, or just stupid. I can see why you're upset with this being the main focus though, because, from my understanding, they've already redone parts existing Wynncraft 5 times already.

Fourth, I think that raids are more unique than dungeons, but this is of course my opinion. I do find that problem with tomes, and I wish they put more thought into it. I'm not sure if I could call it the worst feature, but it's defiantly not a good one (unless if you're struggling with grinding :D).

Fifth, I'm not sure if I said this very well, but I haven't done guilds at all, except for accidently starting a battle yesterday and dying in seven seconds because I'm a noob. I thought there was a lot of strategy by reading the changelog, because of closing borders/different resources/trade routes/etc., but I might have been too quick to assume this because it does just go down to how they executed it, doesn't it?

Finally, I'm sorry if I seemed... toxic during the last posts, I rushed them and I'm not very good at sounding nice online without putting smiles which look awful in the forums. Also, I put them in spoilers because I don't want to scroll through all the posts they're all so long T-T. Also you didn't notice my hotfix 6 joke :(

I did give feedback, I said that I don't think housing or raids do anything to really change the game in a meaningful way and that the update was over hyped which hurt the community opinion on it, I then went on to explain both of those positions. There wasn't much detail in the initial post which is why I went into more details in my reply to you because you asked. If you want more feedback, I already wrote 14 pages of it which I link to time I comment, at this point it isn't worth abridging my thoughts anymore so if you want more details just read that and I'm sure you'll get a better and more balanced perspective.

Finally, you're not being toxic, if I thought you were I wouldn't keep replying, but you really gotta just chill out a little, if you like the game it doesn't really matter what other people think.

Also, now that I'm at 999 comments I'm probably done replying since I want to save 1000 for something special like getting the legendary medallion or quitting or something else idk, got to make it count.

Also the main reason why I'm trying to fight negativity towards Wynncraft on the forums is because how it's being executed isn't going to help anyone. It's going to most likely make people quit, or less likely to join. Wynncraft already has a small enough community and I don't want it dying. This is also why I'm not upset about people complaining about Minecraft, because it doesn't mean anything.

Also I'll look for those fourteen pages it sounds interesting :D. I know you can't reply with it (or you don't want to), so it might take a bit to find :/

No, I played the Bloomi's Bane raid, lv. 256 content...

The thing is, the boss is extremely boring. On my playthroughs we killed it in each phase in like 30 seconds and then almost afked until next phase. Compared to other bosses (Practically all, maybe except Eye and few others) you just wait there after you kill it which repeats several times.
This is not fun, this is just long and boring fight.

So far 1.20 has been the best update I've been here to see, it's added so much stuff to the game and improved so many things
Would just like to point out that raids are far more fun than dungeons and even though you don't get EXP from it I feel like they're more about having a good time with friends than they are for getting rewards
Pets didn't attack and have levels before, prior to this update they were purely cosmetic. Sure, Champion adds extra features that I hope to see removed from pets due to their P2W nature, but ''pets didnt get updated unless you pad $160'' is just a false statement
Literally the moment I stepped out of Llevigar in the HB i could tell the difference. The province has almost completely changed, notable areas being Light forest, Llevigar plains, Cinfras county, Kander and MH. That's more than half of the areas in Gavel. I really can tell the difference.
my guy gavel still sucked even after those changes, i got pretty bored of the whole place after a while. 1.20 has really improved it as a whole imo
Would just like to say though that one of the biggest flaws of Gavel as a province (that still wasn't fixed in 1.20) is that it doesn't have the exploration level that Wynn has. Yesterday, I went around Wynn with playerghosts on and I saw so many new players just in the middle of nowhere exploring through the ruins in Wynn plains. I wish Gavel had that exploration factor.
Yeah, because I totally remember how in Nest of the Grootslangs I was able to fight some crystals and advance floors while guiding my weakened ally. And when in the Canyon Colossus I got to punch rocks to go through a tunnel. I'd also like to point out that the one room in Orphion's Nexus of Light where I guarded some golems was REALLY fun

The only similarities are the endless ''Hold the platform'' rooms and the ''Gather stuff to repair this and that'' Even the gather one is somewhat original in a couple of raids (grootslang one decays, colossus changes paths etc)

Other than these I agree with a good amount of your points, I would comment on tomes but I don't know anything about classbuilding so I'll just stay neutral on that whole argument
