Veteran Capes?

Once upon a time, Minecraft 1.0 released, and added a feature called Cloaks. These would later gain the title of ''Cape''. The first ever cape was given out to MineCon 2011 attendees after it was voted for by the community. This cape was an iconic red creeper, and if you see somebody wearing one, you can tell they're an OG to the minecraft community. Either that or they got it off Ebay. Since then, capes have been given out to players for various things. MineCon, translation, minecraft realms (Fun fact: @Jbip , a Wynn CT member, has a realms cape himself!)
More interesting examples include:

• akronman1 for being the millionth buyer of Minecraft
• JulianClark for showing Notch Ray Cokes (who julian was in contact with) in reference to a splash text.
• MrMessiah for creating the betterlight mod

The last time capes were publicly available was 2017 at MineCon. Since then, you have had to do something impressive for the community (realms, texture design, translation etc). MineCon stopped giving out capes because they switched to a digital version that livestreamed to the whole world, and to this day they still do live MineCons. Only time will tell if they do another physical one, but for now the enderman cape marks the end of an era. Now, you can get a variety of capes on Bedrock edition (including a.. pancake cape? what?) and a few on Java for, again, doing cool things. But it's been 4 years since a cape has been given out to just regular casual players. Now, that's about to change. Last year Mojang announced they were migrating every minecraft account to microsoft accounts so that they support better security, and everyone who does migrate their account gets a free cape. This cape will actually be REALLY cool because it's nearly just a completely plain red cape, apart from the black and gold parts at the top. This can be used for some cool skin designs, but dataminers have found evidence deep in the code that shows that there may be a thing called a ''veteran cape'' coming alongside it.
(if you look carefully at the bottom right corner you will see the line of code being referenced)

it says:
''And.. A special veteran cape for each year you've played Java Edition!''
It seems this line may be used after you get the migration cape. Something like:

''Thank you for migrating your Mojang account! Because of this, you have been rewarded a special Migrator cape! And.. A special veteran cape for each year you've played Java Edition!''

If this isn't just a scrapped concept, this is REALLY something to be excited about. Depending on how long you've played minecraft, you'll get a cape for each year! So for instance, if you played since 2009 when the game came out, you get 12 different capes, 13 counting the migration cape! I played since 2016 (i think? it might've been 2015 but i dont know) so I will get 5 capes (6 if i joined in 2015 which again i dont know)

I really hope I get a golden-yellow cape from this, it would match my new skin pretty well. What kind of cape do you hope to get from it?

Oh boy, 10 or 11 different ones since I've been playing since beta...
Been almost 10 years since I started playing Minecraft, now I feel somewhat old...

 

Though this'd be cool, I'll still be happy with that red one for the migrating, fits this templar knight skin well enough

The only thing is that everyone will have said cape, so technically isn't "special" but in its own sense it is. I started in 2014/2015 with 1.8 so I'm eager for when they do the merging.

Doesn't matter to me if they're special or not, I just want them as an extra layer of skin customization. I make a lot of skins that feature suits of armor and stuff, and capes are always something I have trouble with making look good. The fact that they can't be a 3D element on the skin just makes it look... bad. I don't even care if they don't go through with veteran capes, the red migrator cape already would work for practically all of the skins I make
