    I went for an EAW build for this stuff, I wonder if there are other options for items available that I shouldn't overlook.

    Two notes: You should use water powders instead of air powders, curse's damage bonus means that even though you initially lose ~800 on each smoke bomb you get a lot more with curse active (which it will almost always be), and you shouldn't dump strength, bonus survivability is always preferable to slightly more damage.
