    when i place emeralds in each of the green circles to lure Leni to the factory, nothing ever happens
    is something supposed to happen at that point or do i have to do something else

    I suppose you are in The Hunter’s Calling - no, he will not follow you - just complete the emerald trail for him and you will be able to progress. At least that’s what happened to me.
