If I play with 1 friend in a party, is the share 50/50 or does it depend on who kills the enemy?

According to the wiki the one who kills the mob gets full experience, 100%, while a party member within 20 blocks get 20% of the killed mob. So effectively the mob gives 120% of its usual XP. However that page was last edited 2 years ago so the information might be incorrect as the game might have changed.

Last time I was in a party it seemed to go 50/50 with me and Dragon reading out the same numbers so, no idea really testing is required

Doesn't it just say above the mob how much XP it gives as a base, and then it is shared. The XP above the head does not exactly tell how much XP YOU get. I mean, if it is 50/50 no-one would use parties while farming in a group, it wouldn't be any incentive do any work. How I recall it is is that before any party XP is shared it the killed mob gives out experience proportianally to how much you damaged it. Might be in your case that both of you did around the same amount of damage and got the same amount of XP. Then when you get the XP, 20% of that is added to your party members close by. However, you do not lose any thing. The XP just comes into existance.

I highly doubt the experiance system would have changed dramatically in just two years so I believe this is still the case. But yea, testing might be a good idéa!

EDIT: This isn't me just blindly trusting the wiki. I've been playing since 2013 and this is how I remember it to have always been.
