Heyo everyone, and welcome to my new project I've been working on: Wynncraft: Recruit! The way this will work is that ideally every day or so I will post a new chapter to the story, which I will continue until it concludes, and then I will begin a new story arc in a new thread.
The stormy sky lit up with bright flashes of lighting, as booming claps of thunder echoed through the valley. As the pouring rain fell down, a lone voice broke through the chaos. "Do I have to go?"
This was not the voice of joy, of hope, or of excitement. This was not the voice of someone happy to go somewhere. No, this was a voice of heartbreak and sadness, of someone who already knew the answer to their question.
"Yes." was the response, exactly what was expected and dreaded. The fearsome knight who said it stood completely emotionless, and only a scowl was visible on his face through the darkness. The pleader tried one last time to reach for a glimmer of hope in this moment. "Can I at least say goodbye to my family?"
His family stood on the porch of his home. His wife and son stood weeping in silence, and the only thing keeping them from rushing over to help was their fear of not only the knight, but the one who had sent him.
"No. You have failed to meet your wheat quota for this month, and as such, you will be sent to the province of Wynn to serve as a guard for the rest of your life. Your family will become nothing but servants to the queen. Now, step inside the carriage, or I will slay you where you stand."
It took all of his willpower to comply with the knight's instructions. He stepped inside the carriage and closed the door behind him. The driver snapped his whips, and the horses began to pull the carriage towards its new destination. As they travelled, he made a vow. "I swear to the almighty bovine that I, Tasim, will become the greatest hero ever to live and that I will save my family and this entire province from the tyranny of the queen."
The sound of a loud crash jolted Tasim awake from his slumber. He was flung across the carriage, and hit the wall with a loud thud. He stood up, dizzy and half-awake, ans tried to find his way out of the carriage. Consequently, he tripped on aa loose board, and landed hard. Tasim groaned and stood up again, and faintly heard the voices of someone calling for him outside.
Following the direction of the voices, Tasim was able to slowly climb out of the carriage, and into an open grassy field. It was peobably the most serene thing Tasim had ever seen, and it calmed him and slowly awoke him. Then, there was a shout.
"WHY IS IT ALWAYS THIS SAME DAMN ROCK!"
Tasim winced as he heard a stream of profanities so colorful that even rainbows would be jealous. Fortunately, the cursing calmed down shortly after, and he was joined by the driver. "You should probably get going with the others. I'm going to need to stay here and repair my carriage, alright?"
Tasim nodded, and made his way to behind the carriage, where several other people were waiting. The first of them was a man wearing a light brown cloak, who introduced himself as Aledar. The second was a woman with a gaze even more piercing than a hawk's, who reluctantly introduced herself as Jenprest. The next was a rather tall and muscular mab wearing nothing but some trousers and a sash full of various colored potions, who simply introduced himself as "Caero". Finally, there was a woman who looked old enough to be Tasim's mother, who carried a knobbly wooden walking stick and introduced herself as Bea.
Tasim introduced himself to the group, and they chatted for a few moments. Then Jenprest looked up. "The sun is getting low. We should probably head towards the gate to Wynn and find some sort of shelter for the night."
Nobody opposed this idea, so the five of them headed off in the direction of their new life.
After walking for a few minutes, the group came across a wall preventing them from going any further. "Well," Jenprest said. "I guess this is as far as we can go. We'll need to-"
Then a voice called out from atop the wall. "Hey!"
Tasim looked up and called back. "Yeah?"
"Are you five the new recruits?"
"Yes we are! Can we come through?"
"Of course! Give me a moment to open the gate!"
Silence reigned for a few moments, and Tasim started to get uncomfortable. Then, he heard the rattling on chains from behind the wall. The center of the wall swung open like a door, allowing access to the other side. Tasim quickly entered, followed by the rest of the group.
Tasim looked around as he went through the gate. What he saw was absolutely stunning, even compared to the serenety he experienced not minutes ago. Grass covered every inch of ground, and flowers sprung up in many locations. It was all situated within a small valley, which provided shade for them. The guard who had opened the gate stepped next to Tasim and announced, "Welcome to the province of Wynn!"
Aledar's mouth dropped open. "I've heard stories about this place. I thought it was a terrible province, ravaged by corrupttion. But this… this is almost the exact opposite!"
The guard laughed. "Those are all just tall tales about Wynn. It's actually very nice here. The corruption hasn't reached this place yet, and I don't know much about the mainland, but it is certainly very peaceful.
"Besides, it's starting to get dark now, so you should rest for the night. There are some sleeping bags over to the right."
Tasim nodded, and followed the guard over there. "You won't need to worry about monsters or anything. They don't come this far, and ewe have guards on watch throughout the night."
Each of Tasim's companions chose a place to sleep, and Tasim laid down too. He struggled to fall asleep for awhile, as his mind swirled with thoughts of his family. Finally, he managed to fall asleep, and slept peacefully the entire night.
