Just whipped something up real quick to test some new piano samples so here it is.

I might do the whole song and re-record it so it isn't 2 fps at some point but otherwise here it is:

Heh if you think that's good take a look at this one:

I just did the piano testing because I was gonna go crazy listening to One Winged Angel for like 8 hours.
Gonna finish it at some point though maybe.

Very badly organized but yeah I've been slowly but surely trying to curate some good samples.

    upload_2020-12-29_19-29-32.png
One Winged Angel uses probably around ~40 samples. (Some string samples aren't used but I just still kept em there so the 45 number isn't fully accurate)

Most instruments have 2 or so samples. A short staccato one and a sustained one. Some have more such as the choir which has 9 samples (each one being a different latin syllable) or the french horn which has an extra octave rip sample.

Once the song is finished it'll probably end up being around maybe 50-60 samples depending on how much effort I want to put into it.

I still need to finalize the strings and woodwind samples, and I'm debating if I should add a custom sample for every 2 octaves, which would sound a little bit better compared to just having the program automatically change the speed of notes. (Although this takes ages so I've only done it for the piano so far)

thats actually awesome the samples actually work realllly well considering how poorly nbs handles pitch shifting
i actually wanna know how the sustained ones work since it seems like youre spamming them but im not hearing any overlap
so im guessing its a very short sample of just the middle of a sample with the beginning and end cut off?

The piano uses 3 different custom samples per different octaves, so that way at most a note is only around an octave from a real sample

The sustained notes are just samples spammed yeah. Generally anything over a second long will sound pretty bad. If you isolate an individual track as well sometimes it's more noticeable. My woodwind sustains are pretty bad atm and it's pretty hard to get a good sounding woodwind sustain sample. The brass sustains are great for the french horn, but a little bit worse for the trombones and such.

When it's all playing at once though it's harder to hear the defects.
Here's an earlier thing I recorded with just the french horn isolated

Here's one with the full brass (I isolate the trombones farther in)
You can sorta hear how the trombones overlap a little, but iirc I replaced those samples at some point

you can even do sustains with just the vanilla Minecraft flute as long as the pitch isn't too high and the TPS is fast enough.

Also the Torna Battle Theme is really bad atm, might work on it sometime later though after I finish One Winged Angel
