Hey, Why Wasn't There A Rollback? ( Massive Dupe Issue Discussion )

I don’t even know how some of you can value a game economy to REAL LIFE time loss, not sure if you know this but within reasonable doubt, we are here for a finite amount of time and it’s irresponsible to waste that because of the mythic market

 

Ice Bear says people spent real life time gaining and building their wealth. A lot of real life time. Ice Bear says losing all that by losing the economy is a loss of real life time.

 

If you value your money in game so much as to potentially waste other people’s time then perhaps a stroll outside is due. This is coming from someone who spent a shit ton of time grinding money.

 

sure, but also consider the lootrunners/economy people that have now essentially wasted a ton of their time because most of their money is now extremely devalued.

 

I think everything has pretty much been said already, so I'm just typing this to also show my support for a rollback.

 

LOL you linked to an article which literally goes against what you said to a guy who did economics for two years in uni. Unlike you, I actually understand microeconomics so I guess it's time for a little lesson.

There are buyers and suppliers (demand and supply). When both lines are fixed (which they are in this case) and prices are high, there is a strong incentive for suppliers to supply more. Since there is more then one player supplying items, the suppliers need to compete with each others prices to make sales which drives the prices down. When there are more items, buyers have less competition since there are more choices, but suppliers face more competition as they need to sell at a lower price to actually make a sale. You conflated buyer and supplier competition which is a big no no in the world of mircoeconomics.

My main focus is on supply since demand hasn't changed, so the key takeaway is "The law of supply says that at higher prices, sellers will supply more of an economic good."

Ice Bear values the time and money of others that spent years on gaining that wealth while we just spent a few days leveling up. Ice Bear says not rolling back has long last benefits far worse than losing a few hours work.

 

When you're talking about suppliers are you talking about mythic sellers? Because nobody is selling mythics right now.

with this new fucked up economy, that 3stx is worth jack shit now

 

I think the mods might be able to get rid of most duped LE, but definitely not all. Either way, if a rollback isn't possible that's better than nothing.

 

Weeks of time as in the combined amount of time everyone logged over the dxp weekend this is deeper than just one person
And the 3 stacks of le is still worth something if you’re not in the mythic market
And it doesn’t take much to ban someone who just spent 200 stacks on a bunch of random items that don’t hold that value
Honesty if you willingly trade with a duper you should be banned too

I support the rollback! I gained a lot of combat levels and items from the dxp week, but I'd rather have that lost than have the economy in ruins. (Though keeping the combat levels would be nice.) It's really frustrating to see selfish people ruining something so important to the server.

 

Just gonna respond to a couple people's 'solutions' and ideas against a rollback here with some logical knowledge

- Tracking down the duped LE & removing or refunding mythics will take beyond a decent amount of time, by this point the market will be beyond inflated & it's likely there just aren't enough mods currently who would willingly spend hours on hours tracking down thousands of stacks of duped LE.

- Resetting only inventories is a good idea in theory, much like the last, except will likely take much more time than needed & will divert dev work from 1.20, slowing down progress on the update which is likely an even worse situation for administration

- Your time & effort can suck it, lets be real, its selfish as hell to say your time & effort is worth more than the lootrunners who put time and effort into getting those mythics only for them to become absolutely useless. Its a stupid argument, stop citing personal reasons as to why we dont need a reset.

- Just because the lootrunning community is a minority, doesn't mean they deserve to be fucked over in this. We ALL benefit from the mythics they find and sell, because without them we'd find it exponentially harder to make builds we want with the mythics we desire.

TLDR: stop being selfish and valuing your time above the time of others, sure, we may all have lost hours of our lives this week if we reset, but at least its not equal to the thousands of hours spent lootrunning that will be destroyed. Lets just do the rollback and get on with it.

 

I'm sorry but I must've had a stroke whilst reading this. You're saying if he values the time he spent in-game (which he decided to spend getting money) over the time other people spent in-game, then he needs to go outside? LMAO? And he's not just being selfish, every player who's spent hours upon hours playing the game, getting money would be nullified. And sure some people would lose the money and progress they've gained over the past 5 days from a potential rollback, but that's fairly inconsequential to years of playing?

There is no easy solution to this, we're just looking for the least-bad option.

 

Every single item is its own supply and demand curve with their own unique quirks. I'm not really talking about mythics in specific since they have a lot more quirks then most items, I'm mostly talking about generic items like legendary and rares items people commonly find on loot runs.

As for mythics now, I believe the market is way too unstable right now for people to be willing to sell such high value items as they could easily lose a ton of money on it. Because of their inherient value, I think the mythic market is going to take a lot longer to recover.

Thank you for actually bring up a good point though, I really should have been more clear about that.

 

All the supply has literally already been bought off market, and people were putting mythics on market for 100+ stacks every time the market went back up, which were bought every time. The people who bought those mythics are dupers, and they are getting banned. But that means mythics are being removed from the economy (legit players -> banned dupers), and that le is flowing into the economy (dupers -> legit players). Supply is going down, inflation is going up, and demand is the same. How can you increase supply when mythics are being removed from the economy?

 

In other words, I don't want to be screwed over so let's screw over a different group of people instead?

Your entire argument is that we need to value lootrunners time over profession grinders time and you're calling everyone who disagrees with you selfish. Thanks for adding that to this conversation, very productive stuff /s
