Since I have been banned from Wynncraft, it's time for me to say by goodbyes. Why was a I banned?

Spoiler: Exploit

You think I would say what exploit it was? Of course not.

Besides that, what I can say was I happened to stumble upon a (probably) new exploit during the last DXP weekend. I ended up getting carried away and said how one would replicate said exploit in a VC. If you were in that VC and you think you know what I am talking about, don't spread it or you will get banned like I did.

Said exploit is very niche and likely won't get abused, hopefully.

How long will I leave? I don't know. If said exploit is fixed by then I will probably get unbanned and may come back but no guarantees. I have already accepted this as a permanent ban, as exploits/bugs takes months-years just to fix them. This ban has put a sour on my opinions on 1.20 so much that I decided to just not know what's in Hero Beta at all other than Gathering XP/Speed ID things.


Seeing this ban makes me more and more frustrated I did something stupid. It's also making me extremely demotivated in life, making me realize that I really need to move on. As such, I am making this thread to say my goodbyes.

I was a complete nobody one year ago. Now?

• Founder of The Prof Tryhard Group Discord server: Now one of the largest Wynncraft sub-communities on Discord, I am proud to start and lead this community almost literally from scratch.
  • Uniting profers: I was able to capture most (tryhard) profers into one community.
  • Chill community: Literally the most chill community I've ever been in.
  • Helping profers: Through helping out new/tryhard profers to leading prof research charges. See signature for a (mostly complete) comprehensive thread about profs.
• The "naked" EO man: I loved doing challenges like these, pushing the Wynncraft mechanics to the limits. Kinda like YY I guess except for EO. See signature for links.

Yes, I had problems with people in the past. The most notable ones were regarding prof hunters. That's something I hope could be fixed with the 1.20 update as this part may be just "disregarded" due to the new Gathering XP/Speed IDs.

Spoiler: Frustrations on being the other side of the "rules"

Like I said earlier, I'm getting quite frustrated about the ban.

To the mod that banned me, I forgive you. Do not take this personally. The problem lies further than this.

Yes, I see problems. Problems that I finally realized what so many people meant. Problems that I thought weren't as important as others but are actually quite so.



Lack of communication and lack of strict guidelines for moderators.


There are too many problems here. Let's start with mute/banning guidelines used by moderators. Now, I'm sure they have some sort of guideline for this, but this needs to be made explicit. I want to know the punishments of breaking some rule on a separate, official thread, including the variations of breaking said rule. Sure, no one sane would read it, but it gives the community an idea on what is to be expected of breaking said rule and also sheds some light on how moderators actually punish people when a problem does arise.

Communication. Where are the moderator communications (and to an extent, admin communications about rules)??? Very rarely (literally once) do I see a rule update (see that one thread about not allowing Discord links in shouts/forums/official Wynncraft discord server). Like seriously, people need to know changes to these rules as they may unintentionally break them. Of course, not everyone will know this but I would really like some sort of thread/announcement cataloguing these changes and bump them to the front page when they do change. I want to know all situational, niche rules as well.

Announcements of "well-known" exploits and punishments for doing said exploit. We all know that one exploit from that one dungeon many people were banned from. Why is there no official thread saying this should not be done? Sure, people doing it could use common sense and realize this, but there are plenty of others who don't actually realize it's actually an exploit until it's too late.

Keep moderators on the same page. Why do some moderators ban differently than others, while others have different opinions on whether some thing needs a punishment or not? See Kaas's meme video as an example.



Wynncraft's jank update system

I'm not talking about content updates. I'm talking about bug/exploit patches. Why are these patches non-existent, or even hidden? Seriously. Just have 2+ separate branches of code. One for the main, released version, and one for the new content version. When someone finds a bug/exploit and gets reported, fix it on both versions, and release the main version. Why do people have to wait several MONTHS/YEARS for a new CONTENT update just to get these bugs/exploits fixed, even when the developers/QAs already fixed this on the new content version? This kind of stems from my ban, although less so because 1.20 is about to drop anyway and it’s a (probably) new exploit.

For example, some people like Nynnf cannot progress their HIC for months (and still can't) due to that bug where he's stuck in Lutho every time he /classes.

This also applies to the map as well. Have 2 separate maps and fix minor map issues like holes and such on the main version, and work on content update on the other version.

Look at spawnkilling those in safezones in hunted mode as an example. I know a few people that have been banned for this exploit. Why doesn't this get fixed, even when it has been declared an exploit? This is a game mechanic that failed to apply to edge cases like this. Fix this so that many more people don't have to get banned for this.

This also leads back to moderation. It's not immediately obvious to a player that this spawnkilling is bannable, because it even says you are "unsafe". Why is there no announcement about this? Literally the only thing I heard about this is from other people, not from mods.

Yes at this point I'm ranting, but this has permanently left a sour taste on Wynncraft. I hope something gets changed from this.

Through an election for The Prof Tryhard Group, we have elected Sir7alot as owner of the server. I told him everything I could about leading the server. I hope he does well. What do I do on there? Become inactive. I won't leave for those that don't want me to leave.

To those that I have made friends/talked to, this is pretty much my goodbyes. To those that I have probably made enemies with, it was a nice experience being able to interact with you. I won't hold grudges against you, it's not worth my mental health.

I really didn't want to talk about this here, but I want to note one thing.

(not a correction)

This was achieved by bumping the thread for a really long time and messaging both moderator management (and it appeared like they ghosted me for a long time, but Naraka00 replied after some time), not sure how much it helped though.

The communication is really a problem. CT managed to improve it, I think mods should perhaps too

 

Unfortunately, many of the problems with the moderation team are actually problems with the moderation system- and thus are up to administration and possibly management to fix, and not the fault of individual moderators. Please keep that in mind ^^

Essentially what I was trying to get at. It's not the individual mods, its the management.

 

Oh man, I remember the very early days of the prof discord, it's been a lot of fun since despite not grinding any myself. Hope you'll return when you're able to, even if it isn't with as much activity as right now. Gonna miss you.

And yeah, there are some very painful problems in regards to specifications to rules as well as clarity about what is and what isn't allowed (we all know that one person doing something likely illegal who apparently had a mod tell them it was fine), it'd be great to see that change sooner rather than later.

hey! didn't know you that well but I suffered a similar fate as you. my glitch was easily fixable to the point where even I could fix it in less than 2 minutes, but I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt that its more difficult than I think to implement new changes. either way wynncraft lost a real one, and I guess its their loss. wish you the best and hope you can find something else to be passionate about!
