Not to mention it'd likely be really easy to LR there since not as many people have access to it. Full chests galore.

I can't possibly imagine charging a subscription is going to make them more money then charging an extra $80 for heros to upgrade or $160 from no rank (or more). Speaking from my own experience, I'm not willing to mess with paypal charging me monthly fees and I don't want to risk getting banned if something goes wrong so there's no world where I pay even a cent per month for champion where as I'll happily pay for a single upgrade to champion, even at full price now that I have a job and money. Now that I'm old enough to have a job and a credit card, I'm happy to support the server which supported me for 8 years now,.

I was 12 when I started playing, like many of you were or are now. Even if I wanted to help support the server, I had no means to, but it was okay because I never got the impression spending money was going to make the game more fun for me, I just thought it would be a nice thing to do when I got the chance, which is exactly what I did and I was right, buying rank did nothing to make the game more fun or easier (which is a good thing).

The issue I have with champion is that I no longer feel that way. The new rank has so many extremely nice QOL features which I wish everybody could have (pet stuff, I think the bomb thing is fine tbh) and I just don't get it. I thought the money I paid was supposed to help everyone get cool stuff, not only me and while it doesn't affect me now since I can afford to buy into the rank, I know 12 year old me would be disappointed to hear about some of the advantages champions get.

At this point, I'm not even sure I want to buy into the rank at all because I don't want to support the direction they're taking the games monetization and I'm sure making it a subscription is the straw that's going to break my back and make me give up on wanting to support the server financially. It's kind of annoying to charge me for useful features and a cool title but it's a whole other can of worms to charge me monthly for something that all goes away if I decide to opt out of a subscription, even if it costs me less in the long run.

Champion rank sounds hype, would 100% buy it. Then I heard about monthly subscription. I wouldn't buy it if it was monthly no matter the cost.

so, i was pretty confused that the THOUGHT of making champion a subscription even existed.
it should be obvious in a multitude of reasons as to why this is a shitty play, and personally, i think it would be about 90% greed-driven to make it a subscription.
i really wanted to know more about the reasoning behind that philosophy, so i did a bit of digging.
i found an image of the person who thought making champion a subscription would be a good idea.

(saying "it's old code" is a fucking pathetic excuse-- the problem is the fact that this even came up in serious discussion about planning the rank)

Ranks makes up more than 50% of our total revenues, but since it's a one-time purchase it's also forcing us to rely mostly on new players to keep that up. We've got to constantly pay to keep the servers up and add new stuff, therefore it's nice if our main revenue stream follows that and is stable, consistent and not tied to new players joining

i don't have the same ability to perform linguistic gymnastics for the sake of logic and reasoning, and i'm fresh out of funny juice, so this is probably going to be brutal. i would say brutally honest but that's probably stretching it.

from my perspective, which is definitely limited, i would feel much less inclined to purchase something on a subscription-based model than a one-time event for a couple of reasons. it feels less rewarding, because you don't actually get the permanent rewards, so if you get used to these QoL features (funny pet features being locked out of non-champion), and then your champion runs out. you get a pretty damn sudden transition to less enjoyable. also, i would assume (this is fully guesswork on my part so there's a good chance that i'm completely wrong, which is. pretty usual :sunglasses:) that there would be more possible errors in a subscription-based transaction than a one-time fee. the risk would be a turn off for me, and i would assume many others.

having a constant stream of revenue is definitely a positive-- i support that philosophy completely. i just wish that having that would be sustainable without making champion paid on a cycle. not sure how it would work, maybe through adding more bomb-esque stuff or something (hey, housing is added. and pets. pet xp bombs? house block bombs? more cosmetics mmmm myes?).

just my two cents. sleep time good night all.

But what would be the price? Abd how many people would have it permanently? 10? 20? 30 max I think.

I understand you need money, but imo champion... you see it yourself

I would love a one time payment. If that is not possible give us the option to choose between a weekly/monthly subscription and a yearly subscription. (please)

thought some more. a rarity for me.

potentially an option to purchase it on a monthly basis, and an option to purchase it permanently for the price of multiple months.

Imo the implementation of the current champion rank with a subscription system doesnt fit into the current rank ecosystem. However I also agree that the idea of doubling the price of the previous rank and making it a one time purchase is unsustainable, since 160$ is already a really high price for a rank when compared to other servers and any further ranks would be nonesense.

A possible solution for a subscription that I think would get broad support, would be one based on bombs, where you get all sorts of bombs that expire on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Because of them expiring I think this would result in an increase in bomb usage and not a decrease in bomb purchases that would offset the income from the subscription significantly. Of course, you would have to work out in detail if/how something like this would make sense. The big advantage of this idea is that tweaking/discontinuing it would be really easy if it doesnt work out.

Other monetisation ideas that would appeal more to people like myself that dislike subscriptions generally and would rather "own" stuff permanently are a) event/season exclusive pets that instead of going on sale are only purchasable (for their full price) at special events like craftmas (and e.g. have a slightly different colour every year) or b) advance player disguises that make you look like e.g. a ninja/emperor/clown/... or c) purchasable advanced class skins/spell animations with better effects (maybe even individually sold and or selectable for each spell - which would also be a nice champion perk; to be able to mix the standard and reskinned spell animations).

Also personally I think Champion should be ~120-140$ with reduced features (maybe even some moved towards a "Wynncraft+" subscription combined with the bomb idea that would exist outside of the ranks ecosystem) as that would make it significantly more attractive - at least to me - since 80$ (from Hero to the speculated 160$) is a pretty harsh increase imo, but ultimately fine if you think that would do better for the server.

I honestly don't care that much if Champion is a subscription model. My problem lies with how some crazy, potentially game-changing QoL features are locked behind it, such as pet tasks and instant class deletion (these are not the only ones).

I mean pet task i think should be available to everyone but bomb bells and reserved world slots should be available to no one (bomb bells is already bad enough but combined with reserved slot is just outright pay to win imo)
