Are professions profitable in comparison to lootrunning/selchar’s reef? if so, is there a best profession?

Lootrunning is your best money-making option. Professions are incredible grind before you make at least some money. Seavale Reefs are bad for endgame but good for lv.50 and lower

Can professions be useful in ways other than money making? I thought perhaps food could just be better heal potions/loot quality stuff

If you don't mind the insane grind time you need it then yes, they are useful. But trust me if I say that the grind is really, really bad and boring

I think that either consumables, tailoring or jeweling. These are tied to LQ so there is a good chance you will make money.

It really depends on what you want to do with it too, if you don't want to make a ton of money and just want to make stuff like LI easier like me then alchemy and cooking are great, you don't even need to get them to that high of a level, maybe 70-80 to start making really good stuff. Scribing is probably the worst of the three, though with raids coming having a high scribing level and good scrolls will probably make you some friends.

As for making money, yeah tailoring or jeweling are the best bet. Most lootrunners rely on crafters for their LQ gear so there's a huge market if you can grind to level 110+ to make it. That being said, you need 110 in gathering skill too, so that's a little difficult, even I haven't gone that far yet.

You can't make as much money with this, but woodworking is also a good way to make really powerful bows and wands. At 110, you can craft mythic-lite items though by they time you get there you'll probably be able to afford an actual mythic.

I would probably recommend avoiding armoring and weaponsmithing, you can make some good stuff but they're not really worth the effort unless there's something you really want.

Seavale Reef is never good. Buying leather helmets and turning them into scrap is way more profitable and can be accessed from lvl 1.

Honestly as someone who has leveled from mining 0 to 90 in 4 days, it's honestly not that bad. Just watch Vsauce in the background and click. I got to 90 using bombs like 1/10th of the time and playing 5 hours a day which might seem like a lot, but it goes by fast.
