Howdy! I am your lovely host named Colin and as promised I am delivering to you all the (second) monthly episode of Featured Wynncraftian!

If you're new, you might be asking yourself, what the flippity heck is Featured Wynncraftian?? Featured Wynncraftian is a monthly forum series where we feature people from the community! You do not have to be the most popular member to get featured.

Like past seasons, if you think you know someone who would be a good interviewee or is just freaking awesome, feel free to suggest them here.

@HeyZeer0 is not only a famous Wynntils Dev but he is also recently a Wynncraft Dev! With out further ado, lets get into the interview!

Was it a shock to you to get an offer to work for Wynncraft? Did you ever pause for a moment the last couple months and ask yourself how you’ve gotten this far?

I wouldn't consider it as shock but instead as a super happy surprise!
When I was offered to join the dev team it was probably one of happiest days of my life, been able to work in the game that I love is such a pleasure that I cannot explain with words.
At first I freezed for a while, as humans we always want to keep everything as it is because we are afraid of changes, and then I realized that it was a good change, and that I was capable of it and here we are :).​

I had a very similar reaction, so I know what you mean! What aspects of Wynncraft made you fall in love with it?

Wynncraft by itself is a completely unique concept, never in the whole history of Minecraft servers, there was such a project that was capable of using every single feature that vanilla offers in order to build such a huge environment.
Wynncraft is the CraftedMovie passionate project and that is what makes it special, we're not playing just a regular game, we are playing a life project.
Along with all that, there's the wholesome community that variates from just playing the game to creating content, they are so lovely and welcoming which is very, very special in many ways.
One of my favorites features that Wynncraft offers is the OST, it's such magical to hear a song that was made for a specific area, and knowing that all of that is made using vanilla things, it's just wow.​

I think you were spot on with your “life project” comment.
Although the main orchestrators are Salted, Grian, and Jumla, I would say that myself and other team members have poured our heart and soul into Wynncraft and have worked really hard to improve the game and community.
It’s nice knowing at least some people recognize it.

You like the OST too?? I am personally a big fan of the Nesaak Theme and if I ever need motivation that’s usually my goto choice of song.

So it’s no surprise that no only do you work on Wynncraft now but you co-started Wynntils. What made you take on that endeavor and what has kept you working on it?

Ah yes, I gave a shout to everyone on the team in the community section, I really appreciate all the efforts that you all put into the game!
My favorite OST song is "The Forest Lives On" which is the light forest theme, Nesaak theme in other hands is very comfy and pretty, awesome track as well.

Surprisingly It was actually never my intention to create Wynntils, it just happened by chance!
Around 2 years ago I created a mod called "Wynncraft Rich Presence" that added support for the Discord Rich Presence system into the game.
Scyu, who is my partner and co-founder of Wynntils, contacted me asking if they could implement my tiny mod inside another Wynncraft mod, I agreed.
After some time, Scyu contacted me again saying that they were leaving the other mod team, knowing the reasons, I suggested if they wanted to create a new mod with me, and that's a short version of how Wynntils was born hahaha

Currently, there are two things that motivate me to keep working on Wynntils, the community, and the challenge that it's to maintain it.
We have built a such lovely community around the mod which is incredible!
I really thank everyone that made it possible.
Along with that, creating new features is a hard task that requires a lot of understanding of how the game works, the same way Wynncraft abuses all vanilla features, we abuse Wynncraft features to create other ones, so it requires from us things like manually mapping every song location in order to create the offline OST player.​

Thats quite the backstory!
I think that’s definitely one thing that Wynntils and Wynncraft has in common: a supportive and loving community.

Now something I am (and probably others are curious about), do you / are you working towards some sort of degree or are your entirely self-driven?

Everything I know about programming and pretty much about everything else was self-taught, I've started programming at 12 years old while trying to create my own Minecraft server!
I never had resources and back support to express what I loved to do, so basically I learned through the internet everything I needed to, my main specialty is programming but I also know a lot of other stuff, from graphic design to song-making, I may not be as good at them as I am a programmer, but I learned what I had to in order to reach my goals hahaha

Currently, I'm studying for next year university entrance exams, and if everything goes well I'll join a great one.​

I think it’ll work out :). What do you hope to study?

I'm planning to pursue a degree in Computer Science!​

Makes sense! A degree in computer science is definitely a good choice, but I am a little biased.
In what context did you learn song making?

Started on it around 1.5 years ago as a hobby and gave more use to it while creating sound tracks for Wynntils​

Did you grow up with a musical background or did you start from scratch (1.5 years ago)

Actually not exactly but kinda, my parents' religion is very musical so I grew up with it. I always wanted to play piano but none of my parents put me in lessons, around 1.5y ago I moved to my father's house which has an old piano, that's when I started learning by myself.

For Wynntils I usually create tracks for commonly used areas that has no music, for example Hive Floors and to create some random sound effects as well like the mythic found one.
My tracks are quite repetitive but I'm trying to get better at it lmao​

From my own musical background I’d say practice and patience are two keys to success.

Is there anything you’re looking forward to in the future (excluding university)?

Still not sure yet, there's a lot of stuff that I can't predict if it will happen and that are required to be able to create a proper life plan, like if I'll join the university.

But for sure I would love to be able to move to another country!​
