    Hi

Did Gavel release 2 years after it was first announced, or did it take 2 years to create?

I wouldn't want to harbor any expectations for 1.20 since it's Gavel we're looking at.

It looks like after my 5 minute research that the original gavel update trailer released on Sep 3rd 2015 and came out sometime in December so if I were to guess when Gavel reborn will come out I would say sometime around January or February.

Feel free to correct if I am wrong.

@Wizconsin has the right of it.

Still, the Gavel Announcementâ„¢ was almost two years before the update. While the trailer only came out a few months before, the hype train had spun out of control far before then.

The CT doesn't give hard update dates anymore, but they tend to release trailers when they're confident that the update will be ready rather soon. Plus, all of the infrastructure that they're revamping for this update is already there, so it's nowhere as huge an update as Gavel was.

Gavel was a perfect example of them announcing something too early and letting hype train spiral off, out of control. Since then, they've done a much better job on holding off until updates are closer to completion before making formal announcements.
