So. I watched the Big Navi and Zen 3 events. Immediate thoughts are:

    I've converted to AMD supremacy.

    What are y'all's takeaways?

Yeah I have a Ryzen 5 1600 14nm and RX 570 8GB atm and I’m either gonna upgrade to Ryzen 5 3600 or 5600X because they’re both just such good value. AMD has made really good value GPUs for a while (my RX 570 is by no means excellent but for ~150USD to get good enough frame rate in every game I play often. Excellent value.) but now that they’ve gotten into high end/enthusiast GPUs it’s just a steal. It’s just such a great value I almost feel bad for buying it.

I think we all saw zen 3 coming. Intel hasn't really innovated on a ton except their advertising lately. They only really had an advantage in gaming, which obviously wasn't gonna last long if they didn't do anything to keep it. I do hope they can behave competitively with their next generation of processors, but I'm not honestly that optimistic. It feels like they got so used to having better products they didn't really know what to when they had to compete and innovate, hence the disappointing miniature room-heaters rebranded as i9s.

As for the graphics, I'm excited to see some competition in the market, but I'm not sure if big Navi will live up to the hype (it is AMD graphics cards after all). I'm hoping it does; Nvidia needs some serious competition. That said, the last few high end graphics cards AMD made had some pretty appalling issues from what I've heard, but I'm hoping they got those ironed out.

I'm probably not going to be upgrading anytime soon, but now wouldn't be a terrible time to do it if anyone's looking to. All the last gen and current gen stuff is going be pretty cheap soon and there's a massive lineup of powerful new stuff if you prefer to be on the bleeding edge.

I feel no reason to upgrade either an 2070 can run pretty much any game at max settings & any resolution.

Never upgrade if you don't need to. I'm still on a i7-4790 and a 1660ti and that'll probably stick around for quite some time. If it ain't broke, don't shovel hundreds of dollars at it to fix it. Instead, do what I do and waste your hard-earned money on other things like truffle oil and keyboards.

Yeah, Intel has really been letting us down (especially since 7nm is coming once we as a species have moved to Pluto). I won't be able to afford a 6900XT for quite a while but it's still good to have competition. Another plus is, yeah, price drop. I honestly don't know if I should upgrade to R5 5600X or get Zen 2 on price drop, same with Big/Navi. 5600Xt is an attractive option for me. Given, I have a pretty niche use case (I have an RX 570 8gb atm and I can run shaders but if I want to keep it at <70C I need to keep my fans at just under four thousand RPM (L O U D)). This is gonna sound kinda hilarious but given I basically play Minecraft all day and go on call a lot it's important that Minecraft is at least pretty, stable 60+FPS, and not too loud.

Are Turing cards any good value? I've been looking at buying used RTX 20xx or on price drop.

Well, Turing cards are much cheaper now, but not necessarily good value (they weren't especially good value before, but they'll be better now). I don't actually know if any of them would run at the same temps as a 570 though. You might want to look at some better cases/cooling solutions before upgrading too much other stuff though, if noise matters a lot.

basically AMD is competing with intel (cpu) and nvidia (gpu) at the same time.

intel still has a 14nm technology since the 5th gen and will still be the same for the upcoming 11th generation.
amd on the other hand is improving their ryzen quite significantly.

nvidia released their rtx 3000 series 6 weeks ago, but since it's rather difficult to get your hands on one, the big navi might get amd on top.

Wait, I thought Intel was still on 14nm?

Honestly all AMD needs to do is make a max one graphics card per order and a captcha to assuage a Big Navi shortage. Ofc releasing later will help too. Anyways, Hail Lisa Su!

I'm rooting for AMD but they can never get their drivers right for their graphics cards, that's been the case for the 5700 XT. On the CPU side, AMD is crushing intel because they swapped to a smaller CPU process size. Only a matter of time before Intel figures out their 8 nm process and puts up the competition. Either way AMD being competent is super good for the consumer and innovation. These next few years are looking really bright. Go AMD super impressive that they're competitive on both the CPU and GPU space now.

Yeah I currently have an RX 570 and the drivers are... fine. It’s just that sometimes I’ll accidentally hit a key and a big Radeon software pop up will come out of nowhere. I’ve had no crashes etc just annoyance.
