SPOILER Theory: Olm And Ancients Are The Same Species

Introduction:
Welcome to my first and hopefully last theory! It is about the relation between the Olm and the Ancients.
Short intri to the species:
Olm: lived in SE, then fled because Dern attacked
Ancients: Lived in WynnExcavation Site D

Theory: Olm and Ancients are the same species

Consequences:
If the theory is true, what does it mean?
Note: I will refer to them as "The Olm" as it is the only known name of the race

• The Olm fled to Dernel jungle and built Ancient city, now known as WynnExcavation site D [1]
• Possible: One of them visited Dernal mansion and sold them Abysso Galoshes [2]
• They tried to use the crystals to stop the Eye, but failing [3]
• After that the Olm hid them around the province [3]
• They influence from the Eye drove them mad [3]

Presumed timeline:

• The Olm live in SE, forming a civilization [4]
• At some point in time they are attacked by Dern (propably not the beast itself, but its armies) [5]
• Priestess Anya created a bracelet as a weapon against Dern, but it was never used. [6]
• Most of the Olm are captured by the armies and forced them into Dern. [5]
• The remaining ones got to Dernel jungle, building Ancient city, now known as WynnExcavation site D [1]
• This happens before 800BP or the miners in SE would have seen them. [9.1]
• They tried to manipulate with the crystals with unknown intention, however they (presumably) failed [1][3]
• The crystals slowly made them insane [3]
• When the Eye was placed into Eldritch Outlook and they felt its influence they went mad [3]

Proof:
NOTE: I am assuming that secret signs from the Ancient city are still canon, which, although present, they might not be.
Olm

• The Olm fled from Dern/Eye into the Wynn province [7]
• They built Temple of Time, propably before the attacks [8]
• They weren't safe there either [8]
• They had access to crystals [5.1][9]
• it is logical to flee as far as possible - to Dernel jungle (when Ocean wasn't an option) [none, just logic]

Ancients:

• hidden signs in Ancient city [3]
• Eye symbol hidden in the same location [3]
• Manipulated with crystals [1]
• the architecture is similar [none]
• “if we only had more time” [3]

Counter proof:

• the lore is several years old (quest wiki page is from Jan 2015, and presumably hasnt been reworked)
• They would have to survive in the Ancient city for at least 800 years[9.1]
• Crystal lore is contradicting itself
  • multiple sizes [1][9]
  • red crystal burns after being in vulcano for x years [1.1]
  • how the Ancients could hide them in the Ocean [10]/Twain valley/Desert when they hid in Dernel jungle (and presumably couldn't leave)[3]
  • why the Ancients didn't flee to Gavel when Red crystal is located in the Ocean?

Result:
Assuming secret signs from the Ancient city are still canon it is very likely that the Olm and the ancients are the same species.
Some (especially Crystal) related lore is outdated.

I think it was supposed to be like "Witherhead is Bob's mother". Not direct but confirmed.

Sadly it seems like time and 1.19 messed it up...

 

The secret discovery ''A Wynnic Excavation'' debunks this part because in that discovery it is revealed that the crystals were hidden in a wall in the silent expanse, found by the mining team, then hidden across the world (i presume the miner captain took the crystals to the twains who hid them around the province)
As for Ragni's king saying about the ancient tribe trying to harness the power, he said ''perhaps'' meaning that it's not certain whether they did or not.

 

There were presumably many crystals in the mountains.

Also consider the sizes. If the miner took them to hide them, did they grow? What happened? Also this:
("We must seal away the power, hide it across the globe" "It should never be used. We should have never used it" "If only we had more time.")

How old is the Twain family old? Do we even have proof it is older than 0AP?

Ok, ive had a look at the hidden signs, and I think this is actually quite likely.

For one thing, I think that the signs are probably canon. I know for a fact that the head GMs have had at least the eye's lore somewhat planned out since the second or third wynncraft logo was made. I'd assume that they may make revisions, but everything on the signs seems canon as far as we know.

So then, we have the quote "If only we had more time". This makes my think of time valley, which was created by the olm. You said that they likely built it before the attacks, but I'm not entirely sure if that makes sense. Wouldn't they have extra time if they were using time magic? I think that either they built the temple of time after the attacks, or they are separate species that are related and worked together.

My biggest problem with this theory then is that from what I know, the olm originated from the SE before it was taken over, while the ancients originated from Dern and went to the dernel jungle. I think that they probably worked together in some way, or the Olm continued what the ancients started.

 

What makes you think Ancients originate from Dern?

It is said that the captured Olm tried (and propably succeded) to escape.

1) You cannot change the past
2) Look at the size of the build. Would you do something as big as this when you are fleeing from Dern influence?

I will also add to counter-proof that they had to survive in WynnEx site D for at least 800 years

 

Well, we know from Fate of the Fallen that Theorick froze Nesaak in 589AP, and we also know from the Ragni Secret Library that Mael taught Bob. Bob was training from like 862AP to 882AP. In the Nesaak Ultimate Discovery, we learn that Marius died in 570AP.

I'd say those numbers are past 0

I'm not sure if this has become outdated since it was added quite a while ago, but I don't think there's anything that contradicts it, so I'd say it counts as canon.

 

Assuming that the ancients wrote the signs, it seems that they escaped from dern.

"We have made it from the dark lands" "we have settled in this jungle but we know we do not belong" "Our knowledge of magic is far beyond this province."

This doesn't really line up with olm lore, which says that they came from the SE.

The temple of time thing on the other hand was an oversight of mine. I forgot about how you can't change the past. And they wouldn't be able to use it until they finished it anyways, and its quite obviously functional.

The olm were there before the Corruption War broke out though. From the dialogue on Silent Expanses Secret it sounds like the Olm had been inhabiting the SE for a long time before the portal broke out.
???: Peon, you have spread my influence. My will remains foreign. They yet hope. The Olm do not. And so we could claim their lands. But here, we may not.

I believe this sounds more like they raided and conquered the land that the olm controlled, then it changed to look closer to Dern. Again, it seems that the Olm had been living there for a long time.
