I'd like to get the forums opinions on the general new player experience. When I introduced Wynn to my friends, the grind just absolutely destroyed their motivation to play. I think when you're thrusted into Wynn, you basically have no idea what you're doing and just do whatever.

Even though I could guess at some of the answers to that question, I want to know what you think about it. Is it an issue, what the issue is, and how to fix the issue.

the grind? Wynncraft is one of the least grind-heavy MMORPGs I have seen, outside of professions. My guess is that your friends saw professions as something necessary, which they are not. The tutorial is misleading.

By doing all/most quests, dungeons and a bit of other content like secret discoveries, you already have around 90% of the levelling covered.

Basically have no idea what to do when thrusted into Wynn? Well, I don't know how to answer that. For me personally, it seemed pretty clear from the start, I just began doing quests and looking for areas to explore on the online map. But on the other hand, my friend said something very similiar when trying Wynn out, as he didn't see what the "main goal" of the game was. I don't think that the game has any one big main goal, as there are so many storylines, bosses, challenges and other things for you to do. If there is a main goal, it is one that the player sets.

So, are they issues? Probably, to some extent. In order to remove the tutorial being misleading, they need to completely cut professions out (I believe in 1.20 they are redesigning the earlygame to lead the player more towards exploring and quests, which is good).

For the "no idea what I should do" issue, I honestly can't think if a solution, as I do not know what the actual main reason is for this issue. Maybe this should be asked from people that experienced an issue like this?

Mhm... At least I don't think wynncraft is as grind-heavy as other MMORPGs. The reason your friends thinks that wynn is grind-heavy maybe is because of the tutorial asked you to craft a weapon, which makes people think that crafting is a must. However I don't think that professions should be removed in the tutorial, since it is still a part of the game. Instead they have to change professions to the point that it becomes way less tedious.

When you are thrusted into Wynn, you have no idea what you are doing? Really? At least right now tutorial introduced you into professions (the system is pure trash but it is still a thing) and item identifier, and several quests tell you about ingredients and elements (rework elemental exercise plz). Back then the quests just ask you to grind and fetch and run without introducing stuff. So it is quite clear for "what you do when playing wynn".

Emogla stated that there are no clear objective in wynn, and I agree with him/her, and I believe this is one of the biggest issues in Wynn. The reason I think so is because, in terms of its lore, you are supposed to fight the corruption or decay or whatever bad shit in game. But gameplay wise you don't really fight with them (maybe darkness yes), giving people the feeling that you get gears and weapons and a lot of money for the sake of being rich and op, instead of really helping out with the situation of Wynn province. In other words, most of the time you don't really have a goal for the game, it is just something that you want to accomplish. But after you fulfilled your goal you get nothing.

So the reason why people are asking for a main storyline is, to give a clear goal for people who play Wynn, and actually provide an answer to questions like:
"Why the heck am I exploring 3-4 provinces when I don't really do much shit except helping random people, breaking some walls and get kidnapped by pirates?"
"Why should I level up? What can I actually accomplish in game?"

TL;DR: Rework professions, provide a main goal to the game

I think Wynn hopes you want to explore, making you exit the city. (Now I am not sure of the guard outside the castle points you to Emerald trail, but if you do not click him it does not matter). If you don't want to explore, you propably won't get a goal.

I think tutorial should change so that you can freely explore the area (which would be greatly increase) and few NPCs saying the area holds secrets and it is only up to you to discover it.
The tutorial doesn't show Wynncraft's best feature - exploration.

bruh early levels are the single least grindy part of the entire game, how were they frustrated by "the grind"? The only real grinding in this game is profs, which are entirely optional and arent too grindy at early levels.

I don't know about other people, but I like getting thrown out in the open without having any knowledge about the game. I realized there was a Wynncraft map when i was level 15 and i saw how huge the map was. This made me want to keep playing since i wanted to explore every region and complete every story line quests.

I can kinda see why people early game want to quit though. Imo early game quests were pretty boring except for a select few of them and i was going to consider stopping but then i saw the map. A few people told me Wynn would get better later on and I believed them and Wynn got a whole lot better for me since. Early quests are kinda stale and boring but after doing Recover the Past, I wanted to keep playing.

The tutorial could be changed though to show that Wynncraft isnt all about professions but it is based around the quests and the lore surrounding Wynn.

Yeah, your friends must've thought that profs are needed for progression or something. Wynncraft is not really from the heavy grind side of the mmorpgs.

Agreed about they need more goals other than leveling up. Like they should make you fight some kind of boss of corruption(maybe after visiting/defeating most/all corruption roots) at like lv 70-105 and decay at lv 90-110 to free wynn and gavel. And combined with eldritch outlook completion you may go into Dern.

    It won't make sense
    1) Even if you "kill" them, it won't cure the world. It still has to be the same (so other players can play it)
    2) Decay is from Darkness, meaning you can't fully cure it until you defeat Dern Beast
    3) Corruption does not even have a Beast. It is a chaotic force, created when Light and Dark touch through influence. You can't "kill" it. You can only kill undeads and hope ice magic works...

For Corruption we have corrupter of worlds, but from ToL I think that CoW is a "test paper", not a "corrupter of worlds".
Also where is Bak'al, who is being an important character?

To be exact it is from Succoru parasites (creatures of Darkness), which emerged from weak spot in Gavel.

I think it was meant to be epic challenge, which has to be beaten in order to access the epic Temple of Legends

The Decay is caused by the Succoru in Orphion (yes, they are creatures of Darkness, but the Decay is not directly caused by the Dern Beast). If you were to kill all of the Succoru/purify Orphion, the Decay would be cured. Sure, it can repeat itself and more Succoru can spawn before the Dern Beast is defeated, but the Decay is curable.

Grinding is not neccessary at low levels. You can literally kill mobs for 2 minutes at emerald trail and have 20 quests to do...
    Just dont do professions

Well, I'm still playing right now, but back in 2014 I reached LVL 54 on my first class, and then I stopped playing, I only returned in 2016 shortly and then came back again in 2018/2019 (then stopped again and came back in 2020, but I wasn't a new player at that point). Reason? I got bored. Reason? I only did about 5 quests and the rest of it was just grind to that lvl. Reason? I'm not a native English speaker and back then, I couldn't speak English properly, so I didn't understand the quests at all. And to be honest, looking back at it now, I'm surprised I even completed the quests that I completed.

So ye that's my take on why some new or newer players might abandon the game because they can't speak English.
