Heyo, I'm doing a speech for a class soon and was thinking about doing it over people's experiences in video game forums/guilds or basically just an online community.

So, if any of y'all feel like it, posting some of your experiences, positive or negative, would be much appreciated!

I guess this is kinda my contribution

Forums? Overall, I like the forums as it lets people participate in the community without it drowning out their voices unlike in Discord. However, I noticed that participating on the forums kinda dwindled over the past few months due to a lack of content, but they usually spike back up after an update. I also like the forums how it usually promotes more coherent thoughts and ideas than that of Discord as well (we don't talk about VIP Plaza).

Guilds? I'm not a guild person but you can find PLENTY of guild politics/conflicts/experiences when you ask the right people...

Main Wynncraft Discord? It gets crazy at times but I find #class_builds contain more coherent responses other than :wynnic_e:. At least it isn't like young people spamming random messages like all the time...

Wynn subcommunities? I run one of the largest Wynn subcommunities on Discord, and overall, we are quite chill other than some conflicts here and there (profers vs hunters) (because professions require lots of patience...). It grew kinda out of my control and gave a lot more responsibilities for me and my mods. Overall, I'd say it's quite positive as I always wanted to interact with other profers at anytime and I got what I wanted.

It kickstarted my slowly growing addiction to memes, irony and self-deprecating humour
    In other words, gamer

For real tho, the game has impacted me pretty hard, I've been here for like 7 years now (4 in the forums) and it is pretty much my favourite MMORPG that isn't a power creep simulator (like Trove to which I keep coming back because they somehow nailed grinding honestly)
I've also started a guild that isn't dead yet (Lux Nova, formerly known as Diamond Deities, also formerly known as LE Flowers which was the one I was owner on, all started because I once wanted to mess with guilds and now I happened to kickstart a little community that is still alive, good job 13 year old me
The transition from LE Flowers to Diamond Deities happened because I started getting bored of the game (it was back when, you know, guilds had more game-breaking bugs than features) and for some dumb reason I didn't want to give ownership away, this was also one of the times I realized... I might have serious trust issues
Then DDT to LXA (which for some reason I keep pronouncing as "Luxa Nova") happened because the new guild owner kept having mental breakdowns after like a year, then he decided to kill the guild and then LXA was born
    And that's how I:
    -Learned I had trust issues
-Kickstarted a community inside a community
-Got myself bragging rights to call myself the "technically" oldest member of my guild)
    It was fun

I like the forums and discord although I’ve only been on forums for a short time. I like that I don’t have to run to get out a response like on discord. Also the meme thread>>>>>#memes.

As for guilds I literally just chill in my own one because idc about politics and all that and just solo war when I feel like it. Also the guild bank is great for storing lootrunning emeralds.

I've met some of my best friends I've ever had over Wynncraft, including my best friend @WithTheFish whom I really care about. Being on the forums has been a really big part of the last year for me, and I'll certainly never forget any of the good times had here.

I ran a guild for a good 7 ish months before unofficially disbanding it, it was a really nice experience. The guild community is good people, regardless if how they may seem.

I love the Wynncraft community from the bottom of my heart, and do not regret joining. A big part of the reason I wanted to join the moderation team back in november (applied first around then) was cause I wanted to contribute to the server and the community- but was too shy to host any big community events and lacked the talent of the CT, and no knowledge of class building to contribute that way.

This community is definitely the best I've ever been a part of, and I am very grateful to have met each and every one of you. Love y'all, seriously.

Even though I'm not online in game, this community has had a really positive effect on my emotional health this last month, and I totally plan on sticking around the forums and discord for a long time.

The forums has been a great place since I joined it. There's some amazing people here that have taught me a lot, and have generally been amazing people.

Guilds haven't been quite the same. I don't think mine has a discord, and I'm usually alone when I'm online. I'm sure that other people have different experiences though.

    yes DO IT

    and
Forums: I enjoy doing literally everything here. In the forums we have people like Kahsol or Emogla who are being really cool people out there, or some people who contributed to this game and still being good to players (like fish, salted and pretty much all of the mods and admins). I don't really socialize with people IRL but some people here actually makes me want to. Also here you could even shitpost or play forum games and be a toxic asshole (which you won't).

In forums like warframe's the people likes to overdefend the game makers even though they did something obviously wrong, and saying some shit like "You don't know how to play the game n00b", but here people are rational. Yes eventually I encounter some toxic people but the overall experience here is a lot better than that in other forums.

Discord: I don't really use wynn discord that much so idk

Guilds: Here I don't really want to care about guild politics, since politics are pretty annoying IRL (especially these days, and I am from HK so actually like 15 months ago). The reason that guild is made is because the guildmates are a bunch of people (who are friends or whatever) wanting to have a good time together. However guild politics kinda screwed this up, since people will shout for promotions and they kinda relate to what they are thinking, for example,

RandomGuy1 [WC4] shouts: Join ABC! We are a community-war guild which features bla bla bla!

RandomGuy2 [WC5] shouts: No ABC has a lot of toxic people, join DEF instead, we got more cool people right here, also we got 30+ territories in a day!

Okay I may be exaggerating on this, but I think you got my idea. Even for me, anytime I wanted to switch guilds to meet different people, I constantly see something like "BLA sucks people aren't even active", "Why BCr lol they are kinda scummy", "Wait what no, people in fox are so toxic and dumb". (I said none of the above, and I don't have the right to, since I am in the most toxic guild right now) I understand that people dislike certain guilds, but at some point the reason people are discouraging others to join other guilds is only "The guild isn't allies with us" or "I personally dislike the guild members".

I am not only talking about wynncraft here, but pretty much every game that features clans or guilds or whatever shit like this... People are even inviting random people who just joined the game and those people won't be playing a day later. Then I am asking here though, why are you inviting them?

Maybe some of you guys don't agree with me, but my point here about guilds is, "Guilds are made to bring people together, instead of being the first and flex to other people". But what I see regarding to guilds in 90% of the games are "We are op in this game join us" or "those people there are toxic so dont join them, join us instead".

    EDIT: grammar lol

I can confirm on the Warframe side, as a clan leader and member of a big and active alliance toxicity is a porblem we have to fight, although its rare, from my experience, its more noticeable than Wynncraft's, on Team Fortress 2 the toxicity descended dramatically after the OW release and even after that it still decreased, and in the current state of the game i find it weird to find those levels aside from salty players due to the recent bot swarms that jump into hackusations easily.

I'm not in the slightest an active forumer, but even lurking has opened my eyes to how truly amazing this game is.

This game really made me realize the importance of... An actual being present game. Before I touched Wynncraft my only thoughts were "SKYBLOCK SKYBLOCK SKYBLOCK". Playing Wynn has in a way forced me to look back on how I spent the last 6 months, and made me realize the lackluster and repetitive game design held within Skyblock. But now after exploring the vast world, killing enemies, and doing quests in Wynn. I feel like a part of me has reopened, a youthful energy I didn't know I had has come back. The thrill of exploration, the feeling of satisfaction after clearing a dungeon, it all comes together to make a stunning experience that I wouldn't trade for the world.

And.. My guild. Fruman Bee. Born out of an inside joke through the Skyblock forums the OG members of Bee gang, (Myself James277, Mlechuxey99, French_bread_gud, Bee, ChessMastrr) banded together to make a guild for ourselves. I joined when I didn't have the slightest idea how to play the game, and in a way I still don't know. These people supported me in ways they probably thought they didn't and really helped me break my bad habits in ways they didn't realize.

It was because of pure coincidence that I joined the BeeGang. It was because of nothing but luck that I discovered emotions about myself. It was because of, again, luck that I joined Fruman Bee, and it was because of that that I played Wynn. What i'm getting at is that Wynncraft is an experience. It's built on the philosophy of exploration, of going on grand quests and discovering new bizarre beautiful locales. And I for one whole heartedly support it.

So yeah. You wanted stuff for an essay right? Well here you go.
