How Do You Pronounce Wynncraft Names?

I'm making this thread on a bit of a whim but the essence of it is what you can read in the title. I'm a bit of a language nerd when it comes to English so I've been wondering for some time about the pronunciations of different wynncraft names or items.

So to explain a bit:
Since wynncraft players come from a bit all over the globe, we all speak differently right? Especially if you don't speak any of the main English variants, you'll have a noticeable accent. (Not saying that native English speakers don't carry accents with them- they're just more accepted). What I'm wondering, though, is if accents also influence you when you think.

Example; Troms.
When I think of Troms, I also think of Tromsö/Tromsø in Norway and it becomes /trɔms/ with the 'o' from the German 'sonne' and a kind of trilling 'r'.

But Troms is a fairly easy word to say in most language/accents. How about something with much more variants, like... Leictreach Makani. It could be said as Lake-Treech-Makani but you could also think of 'ch' as in the Scottish /x/ 'Loch' (not lock).

It's a bit of a nerdy question but I was interested in how other people thought of or pronounced words in a fantasy rpg like Wynncraft when there is no spoken character dialogue to mimic. So, how do you think of some of the wynncraft items out there? Do you mimic what you think a native speaker would sound like? And if you are a native speaker; how do you pronounce words that don't look English?

 

i figured most items have some kind of valid pronunciation bc they are either english or they have a clear etymological origin (eg. google "leictreach makani" or "efteling"). do you have any examples of exceptions on hand?

place names that i think i pronounce differently from most ppl:
ternaves: tur-nuhvs
rymek: ruh-mek
selchar: sel-kar
llevigar: ye-vuh-gar
thesead: theh-see-id
maex: mar-ex

 

Yeah, I think it's relatively easy to make sense of most pronunciations because the names are made with English in mind. When it comes down to names that don't immediately come off as English though... maybe some of these:
Dionaea
Fehu
Altum Spatium
Heracul
Praesidium
Predposledni

Most of the time you might have some kind of idea of where it 'feels' like the names come from so you adapt to how you think that region would pronounce it. It's fun to see how other people pronounce things though, because some are completely different from how you pronounce it yourself. Thanks for the examples too, that's very interesting!

 

Here are my pronounciations that are weird:

Almuj=Al-myu
Nesaak= Ness-ik and Ness-ak are used interchangeably
Iboju= Ibo-hoo
Selchar= Sel-kar
Toxoplasmosis=oh-ver-pow-ered

 

How do y'all pronounce Hetusol
I say Het-ooo-sawl

Like one pronounces a medicine

 

i say it het-ew-soul (or just het-ew 90% of the time, i like abbreviating item names)

 

I think most of the time I like to pronounce it like 'hett-uh-soll' without the J sound that U often comes with, though sometimes I add a dash of 'sole' to the end instead (daring, innit)

 

tbh I pronounce Selchar: Sel-Char... never thought it could be Sel-kar
other things i pronounce weird are Al-Mush (almuj) and ter-neivs (ternaves)

I nearly everywhere use my native language's (Czech) pronuciation, except when it is clearly english (Abandoned mines, SE etc.)

yes but sometimes i unconsciously call it otherwise to rhyme with cybel

 

meanwhile I call it whybell

 

My life has not been the same since I read this post. For that reason I will promptly ignore it, continue to say 'Whybel' and live my life in blissful ignorance just like @TrapinchO .
