Months Tho

so I've been seeing this image being posted and wanted to say something about it.
people seem to think that September October November and December aren't in their right place in the calendar because Augustus and Julius added two months right in the middle of the year and fucked it all up. that is a wrong assumption. the Roman year was a 10 month long year with a 50 day winter period that wasnt counted (as you cant do anything meaningful in winter) the first 4 months were named after gods (March-Mars, April-Aphrodite, May-Maia, June-Juno) and the other 6 months were numbered (Quintilis-5, Sextilis-6, September-7, October-8, November-9, December-10).
This calendar is credited to Romulus the founder of Rome.
When the Roman Republic was founded they created the Republican Calendar that had two new months at the start of the calendar: January (God of beginnings and doors) and February (named after a purification festival that happened annually).
the two months shifted the other 10 months 2 places forward. the problem with the new calendar is that it used leap months every other year, Julius changed it by adding 10 days across the year and having a leap day every 4 years thus creating the Julian calendar, after his assassination Mark Antony had Julius' birth month named after him (Quintilis changed to July). in 8BC the empire had a referendum and they voted to name Sextilis after Augusts in his honor.

TL;DR the emperors didnt fuck up the calendar they made it better, the republic fucked it up.
