Try optifine and/or phosphor and/or other mods that may help your performance.

Also try playing on 1.12.2 if you haven’t already (1.16 gives me random and game breaking lag spikes. Switching to 1.12.2 and installing optifine made wynncraft run like butter...most of the time)

Phosphor especially if the problem is related to lighting issues (still a good FPS boost since it alleviates CPU load).

Worth noting that I tend to use Phosphor in modpacks that includes dimensions with awkward and janky ambient light that lags the CPU like crazy (looking at you, Twilight Forest) - this mod fixes that issue no problem. Well, most of the time no problem.

OptiFine is a catch-all solution that is tested and true, and works 99% of the time.

Using Optifine, disabling Smooth Lighting, Particles, and Clouds, not to mention having Fast graphics works wonders. Also, if you're using Wynntils, turn off the map, as it uses a decent amount of CPU and Memory.

Oh yeah optifine + 1.12.2 worked fine until I got to the CoW, whos summoning abilities are more than adequate to make my computer commit seppuku. I did download sodium, lithium, and phosphor, but the results so far don't seen very promising, due to the way your FOV changes whenever you sprint. The main problem I seem to have is with the textures, and mob calculations, even at barebone settings.

this is a setting you can disable in optifine, look for dynamic FOV
for textures yea they can be a lot, just try making every other setting garbage that impacts performance and hope that your PC has barely enough power to spare to pull through (particles, smooth lighting, antialiasing, mipmap levels, clouds, put your render at 3, etc)

1.12.2 + optifine is currently the best option, as I can actually get past the mobs in the cave without crashing. Now all that's left is figuring out a way to kill a 100 thousand health mob that can heal at an average 500 health a second.

Btw if you are having lag issues I recommend going ultra-tanky. That's what I did (and do, but it's not as necessary anymore) and it usually worked for me. Like with my heavy melee build I lagged out for a full like 5 seconds whilst fighting the Eye, and I didn't die.

I've had a less extreme version of this problem where i'd crash every 5 minutes in areas such as Gateway island or Light Forest, but i've decreased my render distance to 7 now and I crash like once per week :D you should try decreasing you render distance to 2 or something because the CoW boss arena is super small.
